What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Chernobylite is an almost finished Early Access game (95% done), but it's still missing part of the final story mission and requiring some balance and bug fixing. All the content except the final stage and ending is available and playable in the current state, but we still need feedback from our players to let us polish the final version of the project. Chernobylite is a mix of the roleplaying, survival, horror, storytelling and strategic elements within one title. Our gameplay and narrative mechanics are quite unique and we want to make sure they’re blending well and you’re truly feeling like you were exploring the nightmare version of the real post-apocalyptic scenery.

We worked on the game by traveling to Ukraine and 3D-scanning the real Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, which is a huge area, full of ruins and contaminated places. We’ve managed to re-create many real-life objects, including the interiors of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (not all though, as some areas are highly contaminated and not accessible by any living creature). Balancing gameplay and exploration in 3D-scanned locations is not easy because the real sceneries were never designed for a pleasant gaming experience. Then even near the end of production, we keep following the players' opinions and finetuning the final shape of the locations and game mechanics together with our community.

Our current, final goal is to polish all the existing content and work on the title toward the full release, by posting patches for balance, optimizations and bug fixes.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Chernobylite is in Early Access since late 2019 and the full version release is planned for July 2021.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Right now, we have almost finalized version of Chernobylite, with incredibly more playable areas of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone than when we started. The same goes for story events, characters and gameplay mechanics, as well localization into many languages (full English and Russian voiceovers with text localization for French, Italian, German, Spanish, Polish and more). The only big missing element of the full game is the part of the final mission with story endings.

The story of the game contains very branched paths with alternate endings, so even if you play on one or more of the storylines available in the Early Access version, in the finished game you’ll still have new flows of the story to discover and new ways of shaping your destiny.

We are at the end of the Early Access stage, but we still plan to deliver the game which is more optimized, bugfixed and ready for the flawless play.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We’ve already created all planned locations of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, filled with the real scans of the Zone’s objects, gameplay events and mechanics, story characters and quests for the player. Currently, 95% of the content is available.

You may ask us: “okay, so what’s going on now?” We are polishing the final experience, which means mostly hunting bugs, glitches, optimizing the game, but we’re also finishing the creation of the final mission, The Heist, which will be the conclusion of the whole story. The game still have some bugs (especially in language localizations) and some of the areas are not fully optimized for smooth visual performance. However, Chernobylite should work without any major issues on most of the computers matching the hardware requirements.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. Chernobylite is available for a lower price during Early Access with the intent to raise the price at full release. This is to reward and encourage those who invest in our game for the long term during Early Access. Additionally, we want to assure you that all future content elements will be available for free to everyone who paid for the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The main idea behind entering Early Access was to develop and expand the game basing on community feedback. A lot of improvements were made thanks to our community’s members. But having in mind we are not over with the development yet, we still encourage people to talk to us directly on our official forums (Discord) and social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram). Even if we aren't always responding, we’re reading everything.

We’ll still be sharing regular updates of our plans affected by the players’ opinions, reports and general feedback from our community.”

About This Game

Chernobylite is a new RPG survival horror game from the creators of the critically-acclaimed Get Even.

It's a science-fiction survival horror experience, mixing the free exploration of its disturbing world, and non-linear storytelling with strong RPG core mechanics. Make your choices, but remember: they will not only have a direct impact on the Zone, sometimes you’ll feel the consequences many hours of playing later.

Play as a physicist, one of the Chernobyl Power Plant’s ex-employees, and investigate the mysterious disappearance of your beloved. Try to survive and reveal the Exclusion one’s twisted secrets. Remember, the military presence is not your only concern.

Get ready for a thrilling adventure of survival, conspiracy, horror, love, and obsession. One that will prove to you that it’s not about how you face your fears, it’s about how you survive them.

BUILD YOUR TEAM

Chernobylite is not about a solo journey. It’s an RPG game where your companions are the key for survival and going through the story. You need to build a team, take care of your allies and provide them with food, medicine, weapons and intel. If you do it right, they’ll support you on your way to the finish line. If you fail in creating and maintaining the relationships, your odds won’t be worth a penny.

SURVIVE

Do you know what survival is? A tough job to do alone. But be careful - choices you make during your search for Tatiana, the love of your life, can help make you more friends… or enemies. Remember that you need to prepare for the final mission and how you do it is your decision to make. But each day can bring new challenges, some hard to overcome: comrades can die, supplies can run out, an unexpected patrol can discover you.

But these are just regular, common dangers. Think of supernatural beings lurking in the dark and waiting for their opportunity. So remember: each day can be a blessing or a curse. And rarely your situation will become easier over time, so plan your strategy carefully. At least if you want to survive.

PLAY BY YOUR OWN RULES

Rambo-style carnage? Stealthy elimination of your enemies? Or silently sneaking past all dangers? Your choices don’t limit only to the story, as in this world you decide what approach will be best. We don’t limit your possibilities. You decide what happens next. And you make the call on how to prepare for dangers that will come upon you.

Craft your gear and weapons to face the Zone better equipped, the hostile military personnel and supernatural threats lurking in the darkness. Make use of a vast arsenal of weapon modifications to adjust your fighting preferences. Improve your skills to gather as many pieces of information and evidence about past events as you can. Use that knowledge to fulfill your mission. Decide what happens in the world around you by making choices and finding, or avoiding, the truth.

EXPERIENCE

Maintain your resolve and keep your wits about you – the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and its surrounding areas are not what they once were. No one can foresee the horrors that may have befallen your beloved.
