Honestly I was hoping this game was just under rated like blades of time was, but its just not good. The story is a generic revenge tale. The character models brow is absurd. The combat is not very fluid which is essential for this genre of game. The narrator isn't good either. He reminded me of the Conan movie narration but much much worse. The controls aren't mapped correctly for a 360 controller, but that's a small gribe compared to how bad the combat is. The sounds and music are janky and over the top.

If you like indie or B games because of personality this game doesn't have any. Don't play this even if you get it free like I did.

So, I just finished this game and.. It wasn't that good.

Firstly, the game is more-or-less built to be played with a controller. The camera-work is neat and all, but it moves around in such a way that just doesn't feel natural with keyboard/mouse. Which is weird, as it wasn't released on console (...According to Wikipedia) and it still has "save-points" and the like, which are(/were) typically signs of a console game.

I played the game over three sessions, the first two of which lasted only half an hour/quarter of an hour, simply because I got bored of the game. The button-mashing was too much and the combat wasn't that great. Only in the last session did I "truck through" and play for a whopping hour and a half, and then the game was done.

The combat is nothing to speak of, with just a handful of combos (of which 'block+jump', 'block+interact', 'block+light-attack' and 'block+heavy-attack' being the majority) and a few (quite satisfying!) finisher-moves, that boiled down to either weird QTEs (which were, at times, notoriously hard to pull off because the game'd be too quick to register your first "command" and then you'd fail the QTE) or automatic KO's.
The bosses are, at first, interesting - but their moveset is way too easy to figure out, and then they become ludicrously easy.

The graphics are subpar, with a lot of visual artifacts. Animations are, at times, pretty wonky and there are places where it's possible to see through the terrain.
The camera moves by itself, which is probably for the best w.r.t. the graphics of the game.

The "levels" were very linear, although there are secrets (health-increasing bitbobs) that can be found by "exploring" a few hidden crannies here and there. The checkpoints seemed spread out quite generously, except for the few places where a mistake in your platforming would mean death.
Speaking of the platforming, it was fairly dull and easy - with the controls being the major reason of dying.

The story is okay-ish, but I could not stand the voice-work and the constantly repeating "combat track", although the three/five-ish instrumentals were pretty decent, they certainly lacked variety.

As an aside: The achievements seem fairly buggy. They (seemingly) only "count" your latest playthrough, as I got the "complete the game with no gameovers" achievement, although I know I died at points (but maybe that's just me not dying enough to not have a "continue"? I didn't see any indication of this, though). I also got the "Kill both Vlamboor without getting hit" achievement, but didn't get "Kill Vlamboor without getting hit". Who knows?

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this game. It's dull and subpar. Sure, if you _really_ need to kill three hours, but then, there's plenty of other indie games out there that are better. The legend of Garshasp deserves better than this game.

This seems to be the B grade clone of God Of War, Some glitchy moments in game play and if you use a controller its best if you spend a little time re-mapping the buttons. The camera angle can be cumbersome now and again but still playable, A good and simple hack and slash game :-)

As odd as it may seem, I actually thought I'd really like this game. I don't mind games that are lacking in quality, as long as they provide a good time. Unfortunately, this one soured rather quickly. For those of you out there who were planning on playing this with a controller, it's...extraordinarily hard to get used to. Left stick rolls, right stick/directional pad moves, etc. This was odd, but doable, so I learned it and continued on (though it didn't get easier). I found myself enjoying the level, despite being able to spam one attack that kills the majority of enemies in one hit, taking most of the challenge out of the fighting. The narrator sounds cheesy, Garshasp himself doesn't look human in cutscenes (seriously, look at community screenshots, it's kind of an inside joke), but the environments are nice, and the game sets up what could have been a decent action title.

There are those who like this game, and I definitely see why. I enjoyed it up until the infamous "wall falling" sequence in level one, where the game teaches you how to slide down a wall with a dagger whilst avoiding patches of wall that will dislodge you. This was fun--until I was instant-killed by a boulder that fell on my head after a 0.02 second window of it appearing on the screen. Obviously, trial-and-error is part of gaming, so I tried again, going different routes and speeding up his falling to avoid the boulder. About 20 tries (no joke) later, I had tried everything (going left, right, center, speeding up, slowing down, avoiding boulders, etc.), and even when I thought I'd passed it, the game instant-killed me despite seeing no boulder on the screen or imperfection in the wall. I'm not sure if it was a glitch, if there was a boulder that just didn't appear on screen, or what it was, but my journey with Garshasp ends here.

This is my first "not recommended" review, and it comes with regret. I wanted to like this game, and I enjoyed it up until the Invisible Instant-Death. You may very well enjoy this, especially if you have a soft spot for "bad" games, but be forewarned that many people cannot even get it to work. Check the latest issues in the Community section--some people can't get it to load at all (I couldn't until I messed around with the game's files and launched the application from the .exe file, for example), some people only get a title screen, etc. Also, if you'd like to try it but don't want to pay full price, check the bundle websites. Garshasp shows up in bundles quite a bit, which is where I got my copy.

Check this game out if you want to, but definitely do your research before purchasing.

This game remins me a lot of games like Golden Gaxe from the golden era of video gaming.

It's mainly the same as the "ancestors": run down the scripted levels and kill every enemy thrown in your way. Here and there the plain hack'n'slash gameplay gets interrupted by boss fights and other things like sliding down a wall avoiding obstacles, steering some sort of boat or the usual - and quite simple - lever riddles.

The game has it flaws, as it's full of invisible walls, sometimes when fighting on a stair the enemies "sink" halfway into the ground, and the standard controller setting being totally messed up. At least the controller issue can be fixed by swapping the mapping of the two analog sticks in the seperate settings program before launching the game. As you can't edit the preferences from within the game better be prepared to quit and restart the game a few times until you get the settings right to suit your deeds.

Another problem I encountered was that when I first wanted to start the game all I got after the logos where shown was a black screen and an error message. I found out that you have to execute all the seperate installers in the game's redist folder on your harddrive (for eg OpenAL, PhysX, etc.) to get the game up and running. I think normaly this should be done automatically during the installation process of the game ... but ok ... it's a hassle but at least the game works flawlessly now ...

When you got it up and running I personally found the game quite enjoyable. It's a no brainer hack'n'slash through and through. Nothing else to expect here. No exploration no fancy combos (though the charakter can learn some but you get notified about them - and you don't really need them - you can also play the game with the standard controls only without problems, except for some bosses, which I like).

The graphics look ok for me as they do their job but they are far away from being great seeing this game came out in 2011 and so it's relatively new ... but all works well ... everything fits quite well together ... and the artstyle is coherent throughout the game.

What impressed me a bit were the really well done german voices. I haven't tried the english version yet but I guess they're well done to. For a game with this budget it's something special to have professionaly made voice overs I think.

Well ... well ... ;)

... all in all this game isn't expensive and when you like the genre I think you could buy it without really regretting it especially when it's on discount, what tends to happen on a regular basis. For what it is it's easily good enough for a single playthrough.

Fun for a hour, then it gets really boring. Go and play Prince of Persia series instead of this one.

Do not buy this game, not even in the sale. I got this in bundle deal and tried it out. It has terrible controls with m+k and x box controller, awkward camera angles, boring combat and story and its buggy. The nicest thing I can say is the graphics are passable.

It feels like it's trying to be God of War but without any of the brutal satisfaction or atmosphere. Combat feels dull and tedious. I could only withstand the game for 1.5 hours but the environments thus far felt uninspired. Played it for the event badge at the time and sent it to my "Never Play Again" list. Just look at this guy.
