Acerca de este juego

Estás al mando de X-COM: una organización creada por los gobiernos del mundo para combatir la creciente amenaza alienígena.
Características Principales:
  • Dirige mortíferas batallas cuerpo a cuerpo

    • SO: Microsoft® Windows 2000 / XP / Vista®
    • Procesador: 80386 o superior
    • Memoria: 4 MB de RAM
    • Sonido: Dispositivo compatible con AdLib, SoundBlaster o Roland LAPC-1.

Amazing game!

Great game for its time and it still holds of fairly well because it was so well made and thought out. This is the game that started the whole xcom saga and made big a whole concept of squad turn bases strategy that is brutal and unforgiving for both sides.

If you like strategy, complexity, decition making, base building, tactical combat, resource management, research and if nothing else destroying aliens this is the game for you.

It would take a long page and bore you to say everything about the game thats good and bad. Just know its a big huge complicated game. I will say some of the mechanics are still not done in the reboot games of enemy within and xcom 2 and wish they were. Sadly some of the complexity bogs the game down a lot. Everything is big. Lots of staff, weapons, bases, research ect. The game is very un streamlined. Some ways its beautiful and other ways just painful. I do enjoy the Turn Units system of turns. Each unit has points on its turn to use any way they want. Everything uses points, walking, attacking (depending on weapon), turning (yes turning since you have a facing view of hm 1/4), walking (again ya agian as in walking up stairs or rough terrain is more), crouching (ya you can do that as it increases your aim) ect. It gave great flexability. It means if you dont move and have a uhm low TU cost weapon you could get many overwatch shots off not just 1 burst.

Any how its an amazing game. If you like indepth complex squad strategy with some base building and research involved you MUST play this as the grand dady of them all. You have to play and beat this game at least 1 time! Beware its a hard game and you will probably lose many handfulls of soldiers. Its sad but hay its war as long as you are killing say 1-2 handfuls of aliens and only lose 0-2 soldiers you are still by the numbers winning so congratulatoins. Early on brace your self to lose several soldiers a mission. Also note that any point if the game a max damage crit shot can kill any of your soldiers so dont get too attached. Its just war sorry.

The 2nd game Terror From The Deep did stream line the game fairly well but was a 2 steps forward 1 step back having its own new problems.

The game is horribly impossible, the aliens are OP, the soldier aim is [Censored 4 dah kiddies] while the aliens do 1 hit ko from 10-30 tiles away and explode your whole team

in conclusion

A classic strategy game with punishing difficulty. If you have some money leftover in your steam wallet buy this game and play it on a rainy day. Be prepared to get your a$$ kicked. Then ragequit and go play the most recent X-com games because those are good games too. :D

X-COM UFO Defense is still fun to play even it was published during 1994.

The turn base combat is so addictive and fun.
The music and the hidden activity in the dark strikes the fear into your heart.

I can't stop hitting the next turn button to hunt the alien (10/10).

An absolute classic. I played this game through repeatedly when it was new and came on 3.5" floppy disks. Still a standard against which tactical games are measured. Most fall short, trading depth of gameplay for pretty graphics and cut scenes.
Stop reading reviews. Play X-COM now. You'll thank me.

After seeing many good reviews for this game, I bit the hook and decided to buy it. It was a mistake to assume that "good" back then means "good" now. The game is infuriatingly complex -- just navigating the UI to get your soldiers to shoot is a hassle. Not to mention you have many unnecessary complications that only serve to make the game more infuriating, like TU's, stamina, and base micromanagement (which Firaxis thankfully identified and removed in the reboot). Add a brutal level of difficulty and terrible graphics (I don't really care about graphics, but the sprites are just so low-res it's impossible to see what you're looking at), this game simply isn't worth playing in 2016.

Edit: I just realize it says I've only played 0.2h of this. I've actually played about 10h of this game, but not through Steam (I played OpenXcom).

This game is a gem for its time, maybe even one of the best - yet most complex and demanding - pieces ever created on personal computer. Hopefully the presented claim is only little exaggeration. *UFO Defense* gameplay includes multiple aspects such as financial and supply management, base construction planning, research and manufacture organisation, big view world-defense with hypersonic jet planes and later innovative solutions; soldier recruitment and training, as well as turn-based tactical ground combat that the reviewed product pioneered in great extent. Recovery of alien artifacts and technology with their adaptation to Earth-based equipment is crucial to ones development in pursuit of defeating an enemy, whose abilities and ravagery increase with time.

Memories of fine hours dedicated to exploring the world endangered by alien invasion - and its only shield, the international X-COM force - brought me back to this product. I am still under impression of its uniqueness. Nevertheless, for present day, this DosBox version - that STEAM claims to be Windows-compatible - is far from working acceptably. Five euro/dollars for a program older than twenty years is robbery considering the current standards. If you are going to buy *UFO Defense*, do it only for the sake of *OpenXcom* - a fan-made and well done upgrade that greatly enchances the playability of the game, next to optimizing it for modern systems. *OpenXcom* requires the original *UFO Defense* data. Know, yet, that this data are remote files that ought to be available for free already.

Is this game difficult? Whether it is difficult or easy for someone who already knows how to play it, is one thing - but to learn how to play it on minimum required level, is other thing - and that may be tough; be warned. It is a nostalgia purchase nowadays. User-friendliness is hardly a feature here.

I truly admire *UFO Defense*, as well as impressive input that the fandom had into making it so much better experience, therefore I need to be fair with what we get on STEAM at the moment [2016] for the price of five euro/dollars: thumbs down. DosBox version is out of play.

Ok, i'm sure i'm going to get alot of flak for this but, I just started the game, and I feel that it is unplayable. I have no clue what is going on, there are tons of buttons and I have yet to find something that explains what to do. You get thrown right into the game with no idea of how anything works.

(Don't let those 12.3 DOS Box hours Fool you, I have over 600 hours in UFOextender and OpenXCOM.)

X-Com: UFO Defense is a Retro classic that has still stood the test of time. I picked it up in 2013, with no prior experience of Strategy games WHAT SO EVER. While most people find the ancient, convoluted 90s interface... well, ancient and convoluted, I some how learned the game without even cracking open the instruction manual (Word of advice. Crack open the instruction manual. You will need it if you don't figure out the interface in 5 minutes like I somehow managed.) Despite all this, X-com is a game that I always find myself coming back to... here's why.

Pros:
-Procedurally generated maps means you will NEVER play the same battle twice.
-The balance between the tactical and geoscape is one of my favorite parts of the game. Both would have been a solid game individually by themselves, but the combination of the two makes X-Com one of the greatest strategy games out there.
- THE FREAKING INTRO. *Jumps out of skyranger blasting mutons with auto rifles to epic bit rock* (Note: DO NOT try to use Auto rifles against Mutons)
- Random Generation for your Soldiers as well keeps the game fresh.
- Challenging. This game will make you FEEL like you're defending the earth from vastly superior aliens, making victory that much sweeter.
- The Art style: Campy 90s Sci-Fi at its best
- The Music: John Broomhall has created one of my favorite game OST since Ace Combat 04

Cons:
- Outdated Nineties interface: The Battlescape can be incredibly confusing to new comers.
- Psionic Line of Fire: Download a mod for this, because Aliens spamming mind control when they can't even see you is BS.
- Heavy Lasers / Laser Cannons kinda suck. Could have used more balancing in the weaponry department. (There are also mods for this. Download them)
- ♥♥♥♥ING TURN ONE ALIEN GRENADES IN THE SKYRANGER YAGAHA KSA KHLSADHKASKDASD
(I think there's actually a mod that disables grenades until turn 3 for both sides. So you can actually get your people spread out.)
- Ammo micromanagement is incredibly annoying

Rating?

10/10, Arguably one of the greatest PC games ever created. Just, for the love of god, use openXcom for modern systems.

Even with Firaxis' recent additions, XCOM and XCOM 2, this still remains the Best X-COM game to date. Better than X-COM in a fish tank (Terror from the Deep) and the very different, creative and awesome Apocalypse as well as the fantastic modern re-imaginings... this is the original X-COM ... baby!

On my top 10 favorite games of all times, brilliantly challenging game that is equally rewarding... once the dead are buried and the dust settles over the little bit of Earth that you managed to keep intact.

I spent more than a half year from my teenage childhood to save the Earth from sectoids, ethereals, mutons and many kind of different alien invaders. Well, it worth the time because this games was far the best and I'd say even better than it's Firaxis remake which is great also. Well about the Earth and humankind.... I'm not sure it was worth for saving but know it's 2016 and it seems I fulfilled my mission.

Still one of the best squad based strategy games ever made, though I personally prefer it's semi-broken sequel Terror from the Deep. Take note, Firaxis. This game isn't as pretty or customizable as yours but has a functional strategic aspect, economic aspect, allows the construction of multiple bases, and in fact, has a functional enemy AI that isn't simply a RNG based reactive prescence but something actively trying to kill you on both the geoscape and battlescape from the moment you start playing.

10/10

Would go through the Chryssalid flow chart experience again.

The best tactical game you can buy. This title started the X-COM franchise which has had it's ups, downs, and it's long periods of absence - but it endures. Modded or not, UFO Defense excels at creating a narrative, stories that are told by the gameplay as well as information filled in by the player. You'll develop odd attachments to X-COM agents even though there is little-to-no detail given about them aside from which ridiculous haircut they have. Very difficult, but no in an unkind way like it's successor Terror from the Deep.

I'm 46. I've played Xcom EU/EW for awhile But i'm getting my ♥♥♥♥ kicked all the time. Seems i'm not that good at playing them.

So the other day and with all the hype around Xcom 2 getting my attension I bought X-COM: UFO Defense AKA XCOM: Enemy Unknown (1994) as I had £1.20 on my account, The Game was only 74p.

Best 74p I've ever spent. Downloaded OpenXcom as it better than DosBox, More Option etc. Well ♥♥♥♥ Me this game is Sadistic but a hell of a lot fun.

First time I've had to the read the manual for a game in a long time and it's 134 pages long in English only. Not like the modern day manual 10 pages in 10 different laguages.

This game is worth every penny 10/10

I've spent enormous amount of time playing that game.
It has only one minus, the game is old and so is the picture. It takes time to get used to it.
Other than that - it is the best must-play turn-based strategy, in my opinion.

Like in new XCOM, there are two parts - turn-based combat and economical simulator on global map.
In the global part you set up the base (up to 6), build all kind of facilities, in order to research, copy, manufacter and then sell alien technology-based staff, thus making yourself financially self-sufficient. Build lots of storage rooms and collect prescious ellerium. Lots of ellerium. Also, there you hire soldiers, screen off weak, and manualy customize the strong ones. Make up capable squad.

You have a lot of freedom in the global part to make a separate game from it , however the real kicker of the game is the squad combat part.
If you are new to a game aliens will often beat you up on easy difficulty. And it hurts. After 100 h X-COM becomes something like chess. You start using exploits like it was designed to do so. There you can master superhuman difficulty.
After 200h of playing and reading a lot of material from X-COM wiki you can easily kick chrissalid terror mission's butt during the night on superhuman using only conventional weapons. And even then, when you feel super confident, sometimes, soldiers, you became so attached to, you trained so well, all die, due to grenade relay malfunctioning. In one big kaboom. Well... when humankind is on stake, no person is irreplaceable and the fight continues.

Feeling nostalgic i decided to reinstall this again, setup a game in Superhuman difficulty, blast a probe and kill the very first sectoid easy, feels good, in retaliation the Ayylmaos attack my base, i make a stand and kill a bunch of sectoids, one surprises me from behind and wrecks my team with a blaster launcher, 3/4 of my team is dead besides 2, which both later dies by the hands of the last sectoid.

This is why i like this game very much.

The original X-Com is one of the best strategy games ever made. The constant balancing on the edge of ruin, slowly researching the unknown and making headway against a superior enemy, makes for one of the best gaming experiences you could ever have.

If you want something a bit more modern, the new Firaxis Xcom games capture the feel with a modern twist, while Xenonauts is pretty much a slightly improved, HD version of this one.

Warning this game is Hard. This game is infuriating. This game can be rage-inducing
But man if this game isn't fun...

This game is just another one of those games that comes right out of my childhood. I remember when the first laptops where open to sell to the public and the military had given a free laptop with training on their use (wow right?). My dad got a Compaq Presario, which I still have, This game was on there along with Colonization, Civilization 1-3, and Warcraft.

However this game holds a special place in my heart, I was terrified of this game as a child and would have thought of it as a horror game. But I digress, this game is what the latest game XCOM: Enemy Unknown is based on. This game is insanely hard even though the difficulty setting is a myth. Now mind you this game is old so graphics are not 2016 quality but, that being said this game still charming in a soul crushing way. You can set up every mission with 14 soldiers and you should expect a 50% mortality rate being a good mission resolution. Now on the plus side you can have multiple bases all over the world and set them up how you want. Research is slow and the aliens have a clear and painfuly humbling advantage to you even when you develop laser weapons which are one of the first research option. Which is a testament to its difficulty. Terror mission are the last thing you want to see on your map, and the best solution for the alien menace is to chase them down over the ocean and then shoot them down so as to hopefuly delay the inevitable beating you will recieve by the aliens long enough to get tech that it won't be a massacare. The only forgiving feature is that you don't loose council members and just a small portion of funding which can be suplimented by selling things you make.
Inspite of its age with clunky controls and sometimes absurd difficulty I recomment this game. It is affordable and its sequal, X-COM: Terror From the Deep is even crazier than this game. If you are a glutton for punishment and want a challenge and enjoyed the updated version. I would highly recommend that you get this game

What can I say that has not been said already, nothing but personal experience. I was told about this game from a coworker 20ish years ago and started playing but because the game is so old I have not been able to play in years. With the "X-COM: Compleate Pack" on sale I had to get it. This is now the 3rd or 4th time I have purchaced this game because it's that much fun. Some people complain it's hard to figure out but it's easy to find tutorials which I'm sure I will have to do for the games in the pack I have never played. I know this is not much of a review but hey, there are over a 1000 other reviews to read.
