Acerca deste jogo

You are in control of X-COM: an organization formed by the world's governments to fight the ever-increasing alien menace.
Features:
  • Command deadly close-combat battles
Shooting down UFOs is just the beginning: you must then lead a squad of heavily-armed soldiers across different terrains as they investigate the UFO crash site. Tackle the aliens with automatic rifles, rocket launchers, and even tanks in the struggle to retrieve useful technology, weapons or life forms.
  • Research and manufacture alien technologies
Successful ground assault missions will allow X-COM scientists to analyze alien items. Each new breakthrough brings you a little closer to understanding the technology and culture of the alien races. Once you have sufficient research data on the UFO's superior weapons and crafts, you'll be able to manufacture weapons of equal capability.
  • Develop a strategy to save the Earth
You must make every crucial decision as you combat the powerful alien forces. But you'll also need to watch the world political situation: governments may be forced into secret pacts with the aliens and then begin to reduce X-COM funding.

    • Processor: 80386 processor or better

Alright first off, I do admittedly have some serious nostalgia goggles for X-COM, I played the game as a kid.

I have to say, it still holds up to the test of time, with some exceptions. You do need to know what you are doing at least somewhat or you will get stomped into the ground, and the UI isn't exactly modern.

The DOSBOX version for sale here, however, is marred by terrible performance issues, and i'm going to repeat what other people have said, play this with the OpenXcom rebuild, as that optimizes for modern systems, and has a ton of mod options built in. It's well worth the effort.

This game is notoriously difficult, especially for new players, so take your time, and as a tip for those who don't know, drop a smoke grenade on the base of the skyranger ramp.

All in all, this game is a gem, and a classic.

I gotta say, I have XCOM enemy unknown, with all of its DLC, and I bought XCOM 2 with all of its DLC, the same day that I bought this in the complete pack. This is the one that I'm addicted to. I've never played it growing up, so I'm not nostalgic over it or anything, but I'm honestly more addicted to this game, than the new XCOM 2. That says a lot. I feel like it's almost infinitely more in depth, but in a somewhat simplistic way, compared to the new two XCOM games, and that's why these older ones will always stand the test of time. They're just great. The new ones are great too, so don't hesitate to check them out either. The only problem with these older games is that they run off of DOS BOX, which means that they save to your computer, rather than the steam cloud. I have a desktop, and a laptop, and I play games on both, and I have to play two seperate campaigns, because the saves don't carry over. It's totally ok though, I'm more than happy, and can't complain. Check this game out, it's a classic!!!

X-COM UFO Defense, in which no matter what you do, chances are you're going to doom mankind to a future of being mutated into braindead slaves for an alien empire.

Played through this game so many times as a kid. Still holds a challenge today, although the graphics may not be loved by many now they are nostalgic to me and still brilliant. The gameplay is fast and smooth and is a must have for anyone who enjoys strategy games and micro management.

This game is an oldie but a classic. You might need to read up on how to start as there's no tutorial and a little bit of a learning curve, but don't let that put you off. Once you get through your first few crash sites, you'll get the hang of it. Don't forget to name your troops (by clicking their names) so you can be extra sad when they die.

10/10

[Also be sure to download OpenXCOM which is free and hooks into the steam edition to fix lots of bugs and display resolutions etc]

It was a great game at the time, however it is limited by its age. By today's standards, the UI is near impossible to use, controls can be fiddly, and missions can get quite boring searching for that last alien on the map. If you've played this game previously I would recommend picking it up for the nostalgia, but if you haven't played this game, you're going to have a very difficult time with it.

Where it all began, and considered by some to still be the best in the series.

Watch a lets play to begin with. Its your easiest way into this game as the interface, while simple in practice can be overwhelming at first due to this being a DOS game.

Well worth downloading Open X-Com to go with it if you want the best experience.

Favourite moment: I didn't really know what to do with the rocket launcher. I sat my muscular Russian woman heavy weapons expert out in the open. An alien appeared from an unsecured shed and took a pot shot missing by mikes.
Tatyana replied by reaction firing a rocket straight back, blowing up the whole shed and two other unseen aliens within it.
most successful mission ever.

This game helped set my standard for PC games. It has depth, it has a story, it is challenging, and it requires multiple skill sets. It combines base building, research, and resource management for the world/organization level, and turn based tactical combat at the squad level.

Great game, though a bit obtuse in the mechanics (common for back in the day). Ultimately, the goal is to balance your research to deal with increasing threats from aliens on the ground and in the air while protecting various funding countries in order to increase your budget. A tip from me would be to save the game before going on a ground mission since the layout is random until you save in mission. Sometimes the aliens will spawn immediately outside your aircraft, so just reload the save before you land and hope for a more fair layout. Good luck and enjoy!

In Memory of the Dujardin Brothers

On June 13, 1999, Squaddie Henri Dujardin, age 32, and Squaddie Bernard Dujardin, age 38, were killed in action during the defense of Berlin, Germany. Many civilians became chryssalids within hours, and upon the arrival of X-squad 3, the city was overrun. The Dujardin Brothers were the first out of their Skyranger and began their mission with fervor. Captian Leonid Torban, their comanding officer, was very fond of the two, "Bernard could hit a muton from 15 tiles away and never miss! Henri, well, I guess he was good with grenades? He was the only one to not kill his own squadmates with explosives".

Soon, however, the two were separated from the rest of their squad due to a cyberdisk pinning them in a small building. Nearby chryssalids soon took advantage of the situation. The brothers made a final, valiant last stand inside the house. Henri set up multiple explosive traps at the entrances to the building and Bernard provided covering fire from the second floor. It seemed the Dujardins would make it, until one fatal mistake.

The cyberdisk was destroyed by fellow squadmates, but it exploded, causing a breach in the walls of their stronghold. A loan chryssalid was able to move into the building undetected, and while Henri had his back turned, the chryssalid impregnated Henri. He became a shambling form of his former self, his mind devoured by the chyrssalid's poison. Bernard, sensing this was his final turn, chose to sacrific himself for his team. He placed a number of high explosives inside the room he was baricaded in.

The only remainder of that building was a single 1x1 wall. Bernard had managed to eliminate 5 chryssalids as well as his former turned brother. Unfortunately, there was no body to recover. Berlin was saved, but at a high cost. Hundreds of civilians lost, 5 agents lay dead, and one turned in to an alien. The victory was sour.

Bernard was promoted to the rank of captian and Henri to sergent upon their team's return to their HQ somewhere in the apparently unimportant part of Europe.

In the end, that 1x1 wall was made into a memorial, the Dujardin Memorial. It lists all of the fallen agents of the campagin, with Henri's and Bernard's names at the top.

A new warcry has been established by the agents of Xcom: Remember Berlin!

10/10 would relive again
