Sobre este jogo

You are in control of X-COM: an organization formed by the world's governments to fight the ever-increasing alien menace.
Features:
  • Command deadly close-combat battles
Shooting down UFOs is just the beginning: you must then lead a squad of heavily-armed soldiers across different terrains as they investigate the UFO crash site. Tackle the aliens with automatic rifles, rocket launchers, and even tanks in the struggle to retrieve useful technology, weapons or life forms.
  • Research and manufacture alien technologies
Successful ground assault missions will allow X-COM scientists to analyze alien items. Each new breakthrough brings you a little closer to understanding the technology and culture of the alien races. Once you have sufficient research data on the UFO's superior weapons and crafts, you'll be able to manufacture weapons of equal capability.
  • Develop a strategy to save the Earth
You must make every crucial decision as you combat the powerful alien forces. But you'll also need to watch the world political situation: governments may be forced into secret pacts with the aliens and then begin to reduce X-COM funding.

Still one of the best squad based strategy games ever made, though I personally prefer it's semi-broken sequel Terror from the Deep. Take note, Firaxis. This game isn't as pretty or customizable as yours but has a functional strategic aspect, economic aspect, allows the construction of multiple bases, and in fact, has a functional enemy AI that isn't simply a RNG based reactive prescence but something actively trying to kill you on both the geoscape and battlescape from the moment you start playing.

10/10

Would go through the Chryssalid flow chart experience again.

The best tactical game you can buy. This title started the X-COM franchise which has had it's ups, downs, and it's long periods of absence - but it endures. Modded or not, UFO Defense excels at creating a narrative, stories that are told by the gameplay as well as information filled in by the player. You'll develop odd attachments to X-COM agents even though there is little-to-no detail given about them aside from which ridiculous haircut they have. Very difficult, but no in an unkind way like it's successor Terror from the Deep.

I've spent enormous amount of time playing that game.
It has only one minus, the game is old and so is the picture. It takes time to get used to it.
Other than that - it is the best must-play turn-based strategy, in my opinion.

Like in new XCOM, there are two parts - turn-based combat and economical simulator on global map.
In the global part you set up the base (up to 6), build all kind of facilities, in order to research, copy, manufacter and then sell alien technology-based staff, thus making yourself financially self-sufficient. Build lots of storage rooms and collect prescious ellerium. Lots of ellerium. Also, there you hire soldiers, screen off weak, and manualy customize the strong ones. Make up capable squad.

You have a lot of freedom in the global part to make a separate game from it , however the real kicker of the game is the squad combat part.
If you are new to a game aliens will often beat you up on easy difficulty. And it hurts. After 100 h X-COM becomes something like chess. You start using exploits like it was designed to do so. There you can master superhuman difficulty.
After 200h of playing and reading a lot of material from X-COM wiki you can easily kick chrissalid terror mission's butt during the night on superhuman using only conventional weapons. And even then, when you feel super confident, sometimes, soldiers, you became so attached to, you trained so well, all die, due to grenade relay malfunctioning. In one big kaboom. Well... when humankind is on stake, no person is irreplaceable and the fight continues.

Feeling nostalgic i decided to reinstall this again, setup a game in Superhuman difficulty, blast a probe and kill the very first sectoid easy, feels good, in retaliation the Ayylmaos attack my base, i make a stand and kill a bunch of sectoids, one surprises me from behind and wrecks my team with a blaster launcher, 3/4 of my team is dead besides 2, which both later dies by the hands of the last sectoid.

This is why i like this game very much.

I'm 46. I've played Xcom EU/EW for awhile But i'm getting my ♥♥♥♥ kicked all the time. Seems i'm not that good at playing them.

So the other day and with all the hype around Xcom 2 getting my attension I bought X-COM: UFO Defense AKA XCOM: Enemy Unknown (1994) as I had £1.20 on my account, The Game was only 74p.

Best 74p I've ever spent. Downloaded OpenXcom as it better than DosBox, More Option etc. Well ♥♥♥♥ Me this game is Sadistic but a hell of a lot fun.

First time I've had to the read the manual for a game in a long time and it's 134 pages long in English only. Not like the modern day manual 10 pages in 10 different laguages.

This game is worth every penny 10/10
