Release Updates and DLC!

Release Updates
The Japanese version of Game Tengoku CruisinMix is coming later this month and the English implementation is coming right behind it, in early 2018! Of course this means the game can be purchased in JP at anytime and the EN will be a part of an update in the near future! The ORIGINAL Game Tengoku team is working HARD on implementing the localization, aiming for the highest quality and ensuring the original is done justice.

Clarice DLC!

The 15 year old star of the Jaleco classic, City Connection (or Crusin), travels the world in her beloved ClariceCar to find the man of her dreams. Her ClariceCar has a wide firing range and mid-level power, making it great for beginners. Hoping to beat off Momoko, her own bomber, the “Ultra Explosive ClariceBomber”, features a pin-up image of herself.

Homura Banto DLC!

Remember Bases Loaded? If so, have we got the DLC for you. Introducing Homura Banto, the first ever mascot that resulted from a bug in a classic NES baseball game. Can you decipher the name and guess the bug? Nah, I bet you have to look it up, n00b. Homura's character design is courtesy of none other than Kenichi Sonoda! (Suchie Pai, Riding Bean, Gunsmith Cats).

Extra Voices DLC!
A pack of extra voice clips, recovered and remastered from the original voice recording, but previously unused, will will be available for download!

Prices and release dates for all DLC have yet to be determined, but Clarice and Homura will both be playable in Arcade Mode +!

Game Tengoku developers interview

Famitsu Online published the first part of an interview with the development team recently.

Interviewees
Nobuhiro Yoshikawa - Producer & president of City Connection
Masahiro Arai - Chief game designer
Takanori Kazaana - Assistant game designer
Nozomu Akiyama - Main Programmer

https://www.famitsu.com/news/201709/04140830.html

Overview
They talk about...
  • How CruisinMix came about
The team met up when City Connection were putting together the 3 disc soundtrack release for Game Tengoku
  • Why the Saturn version was chosen over the arcade?
Yoshikawa-san wanted to do a Saturn port, but thought it would be impossible so asked about the arcade version. The team replied they could probably get the Saturn version working.
  • The troubles involved with the port
Locating and recovering the master data and source code for the Saturn version was far from easy!
  • The Claris DLC
A new character, added from scratch and recreated by the original Game Paradise designer, pixel by pixel.
.. amongst other things.

Unfortunately, we can't offer a full translation, but hopefully, we'll be able to arrange an interview with them all nearer release!

NOTICE: English localisation

This game will initially release in Japanese only in November 2017, with a localised version to follow in 2018.

About This Game

Game Tengoku CruisinMix is an enhanced port of Jaleco's classic 90s vertically scrolling shooting game, mixing cute characters, a game world parodying a wide range of gaming tropes and history, tight controls, refined mechanics and eggplants?! CruisinMix features both the Sega Saturn original and the exclusive Arcade Mode + in a retro game fan's dream combination.

Story

The self-proclaimed “Super Duper Genius Smart Guy” Yamada has a plan to take over the gaming world; the obvious first step being to take control of all the arcade cabinets at the “You&Me Kamiyoga” arcade in Kamiyoga, Tokyo! But part-time arcade employee Yui Ito is ready to take him on! Determined to put an end to this cunning plot before the arcade opens, she hastily hacks together all the used arcade circuit boards she has lying around and calls upon all the main characters to take down this evil genius!

Gameplay

Choose from 6 ships, each with their own unique weapon system and bomb and take the fight to the deranged Genius Yamada and his game-world spawned minions in 8 action and laughter-packed stages. With a cast coming straight from Jaleco's back-catalog and stages based around themes such as JRPGs, Japanese arcades and crane games there's never a dull moment. And don't forget the eggplants!
In addition to the Sega Saturn modes, there's also Arcade Mode+, adding a further 3 game play modes, more characters, and HD Data Mode, with hi-res game flyers, straight from Jaleco's archives!

Main Features

Arcade Mode + features:
  • Normal, Time Attack and Practice modes
  • 7 characters & 6 ships with more coming via DLC
  • Remastered music and voice!
  • HD Data Mode: high-res game flyers & info on Jaleco's games
  • Leaderboards and achievements
Sega Saturn version features:
  • Arcade, Arrange and Time Attack modes
  • Arcade Mode: 8 stages of straight-laced shooting with 2p co-op
  • Arrange Mode: 8 stages with fully-voiced intermissions
  • Time Attack Mode: play against the clock for a high score
  • Fully voiced opening and ending movies and several songs

History

Following its popularity in arcades upon its 1995 release, Game Tengoku hit the Sega Saturn in 1997. Featuring classic Jaleco characters alongside original ones all voiced by a number of popular voice actors & actresses; it was a character-based shoot ‘em up that was well ahead of its time!
Well-known manga artist Tatsuya Souma provided character designs, there were fully-voiced skits, 4 original songs, and animated sequences too! And all while making other shooting games jealous of how well it pulled off its game mechanics! It managed to be a character centric game without succumbing to any of the cut corners that usually come with such a title.
