What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We started building ECHOPLEX in mid-2015. The first version was a basic, browser-based prototype. Next, we built a 5 level demo. We found that each time we got feedback from players - good or bad - the game got better. This is our first game, so we want to stay close to the community and build the game you want.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We've been working on ECHOPLEX for almost 2 years, and we'd like to release a full version of the game less than 12 months after Early Access launches.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our goal is that the full version of ECHOPLEX has more levels, more features and more story.

Based on player feedback, we also want to address these key areas of the game:

  • Add a way for player to explore each level without pressure of Echo following (ie. explore without dying)
  • Ensure that the goal of each level is clear from the start
  • Improve puzzle design - player must figure out the solution to complete level, not just run blindly
  • Improve player controls and flow of movement
We've gotten requests for a level editor, which we are keen to develop, if resources allow.

On the technical side, we have plans to optimize the performance of the game, and add controller support. We’d also love to develop for VR, as we think ECHOPLEX is perfect for the format.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We’ve worked hard to make ECHOPLEX Early Access a complete experience.

You’ll get 15 complete levels, grading up in difficulty, and a self-contained story, which sets up a further narrative.

Having said that, this is a work-in-progress version. So expect:

  • Some unpolished graphics/animation
  • Some dips in frame rate
  • Occasional bugs (which we fix as fast as we can)

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We may increase the price as we ship new content and features.”

The Compass Update (0.2.9)

The Compass Update introduces two new features:

1. The Compass - Shows you the position of the memory fragment in each level, and the color of the room it’s located in. The compass also shows the position of your Echoes.

2. Static Floors - These floors kill you on contact, so you’ll now die if you fall into any of those deep drops between platforms (rather than just hanging out down there).

Also in this update:

  • Added an option to turn anti-aliasing on and off
  • Fixed a bug that caused you to fall through the floor when exiting Premonition
  • Updated the video player that handles cut scenes

As always, let us know if you have any issues in the Discussions.

Update 0.2.8 - Hot fixes for anti-aliasing & missing video codec

- Fixed anti-aliasing - Edges should now be smooth

- Added an alert for missing video codec causing a black screen at game start - In order to play the FMV cut-scenes, ECHOPLEX requires an .H264 video codec that is not included on some Windows editions. If you are missing this codec, an alert will now prompt you download the Microsoft Media Feature Pack, which includes the codec. The alert provides a free download link from the Microsoft website.
