MAC LAUNCH! And other important updates!

NEW PLATFORM - OSX! We did it! We got Mac working! There are no feature differences between it and Windows. We weren’t able to get super good test coverage on it because the only OSX computer we could test with is a late 2013 MacBook Pro running High Sierra(Thanks Delta Bouche), so please bear with us for any Mac-specific problems - if you’re reporting a bug PLEASE include whether it occurred on Windows or Mac!

FURTHER RENOVATIONS - Specimen 7 has a neato updated scripted room in the Base Mansion & Endless. Go hang out with everyone’s favorite mystical cat and agonized flesh wall.

STYLE SWAP - Oops. We forgot about this one for a while. But it’s in now! Go set a key for it and swap to your heart’s content.

ENDLESS NERFS - Tiri’s shadows only require one axe swing now and disappear substantially quicker. Bekka won’t spawn twice at a door and chases you for a shorter time. The spawn logic has been changed to prevent multiple spawns of Spooper & Bekka at the same time. The logic for how the specimen rooms are chosen in Endless Mode has also been updated to provide a more fair but still very random way of constructing the endless mansion (a far lower likelihood of getting Spooper and Bekka as your first two). Additionally we added a system where there can only be one instance of any given screen effect (Like Specimen 4’s alternate form static) to both help with performance and make duplicates of specimen with those effects more fair.

AXE AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE - Specimen 11 and Specimen 3 can be hit with the axe now.

  • Spooper can’t kill you during a room load anymore (causing double rooms to load). You were supposed to be invincible during room transitions but that got broken somewhere along the way. Whoops.
  • Specimen 2 could be hit with the axe while emerging from a puddle and it would spawn a new puddle floating in the air at a weird angle. That has been fixed and he will just re-goop in to the puddle he was trying to emerge from.
  • There was a data problem that made it so on certain floors in the original mansion you would get repeated big rooms WAY more often than we intended. That has been fixed.
I think there were a couple other bugs fixed but they didn’t get written down and StealthyMoose’s commit logs are mostly just non-specific screaming. What a goof.

Welcome To Endless Mode!

Hey everyone!

Today is a very exciting day! Today is the day we release Endless Mode and several big features that you all have be wanting! Let's get started.

-Endless Mode is now playable
How many rooms can you get before your soul wiggles in agony?

-Steam Leaderboards for Endless Mode
Are you competitive and like being number 1? See how far you can go in Endless Mode and have your room count proudly displayed to the global Steam Leaderboards and Friends List Leaderboards.

-Steam Achievements
26 different achievements for you hunters out there. There's some secrets, lets hope you can find them all!

-3rd Ending???

-Play on Halloween and see what happens!
We like surprises!

-Several VFX Updates
Basically everyone has some VFX updates, that's too much to list!

-New and improved Options Menu
-Removed the ability to toggle VR once the game is running because that confused too many people.
-A bunch of other fixes that I honestly don't remember because it's been several months - oops
-We upgraded Unity twice so no more falling through the floor! Theoretically.

About This Game

Spooky and her mansion of creepy cuties are back in Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion: HD Renovation! Can you survive 1000 rooms of adorable terror? Or will you break once the cute facade dissolves, and you find yourself running for your life from the unspeakable, hideous creatures that dwell and write in the bowels of this house? They wait for you. They wait, and they hunger for your encounter. . .

Spooky’s has been recreated in the Unity engine, featuring HD graphics, 3D models, and some new twists and turns along the way. Now with full controller support, Steam trading cards and backgrounds, new specimens, the ability to toggle between the old and new specimen visuals, and Oculus Rift and Vive support. This new version of Spooky’s will also have Endless Mode and all DLC bundled together. This new game will also have a “Build Your Own Mansion” feature integrating with Steam Workshop. There will be both tools in the game to edit rooms and a development SDK that allows players to create new specimen, mechanics, and whatever they desire and share them on the Workshop!


As you might know the original Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion was written in GameMaker 8 - which only has the most rudimentary of 3D support. In order to add features like 3D specimens, VR, Mac & Linux ports, and to fix a lot of the nagging issues (like getting stuck on corners) and other much-requested features it has to be rewritten from the ground up! We're taking this opportunity to add all that and more in Unity - which is a modern fully featured natively 3D engine that is a lot easier to work with for this kind of game than old GameMaker.
