Pros:
-Mostly appealing aesthetic. It's not gonna win any awards, or anything, but the horses are pretty, and the foals are cute, even if the player characters look like they walked straight out of Halloween Town.
-Mildly entertaining. What little gameplay there is manages to keep the brain kind of stimulated.

Cons:
-Tedious. Getting money is a grind, especially given how expensive everything is. A lot of upgrades are purely aesthetic. Breeding a level three horse took three hours. Questing only yields so much money, and upgrading your well so you can keep more horses and earn money faster is surprisingly expensive.
-Adding to the well bit, expect to sell a lot of your horses to make room. If you have a child, make sure they don't get too attached to their first pony, because your little unicorn is gonna have to go to the glue factory if you want the space to breed some level twos.
-There's not a whole lot to do while all of your horses are out working. If the wait times were longer, and the yield was higher, at least I could do something in the background, but they manage to be just long enough to be annoying while simultaneously being just short enough to force you to remain on standby.
-Quests are pretty much all the same, save for the length of time they take to complete and the amount of money they earn you. You'd think that, given how little effort it must have taken to code each one - seeing as your horse does nothing but disappear for a bit and return - that at least they could give more variety to the descriptions, but there are only about four or five to choose from. Selling your horse counts as a quest, so don't be surprised if you accidentally give away your painstakingly-bred demon steed for a fraction of its actual value.
-Racing is only marginally more entertaining than quests. At least it gives you something to look at, though what it gives you isn't much. It doesn't help that it's faster to skip the dialogue box than watch for the millionth time as lil' Pegacornelius IV takes the 1 place.
-All three training games play and look exactly the same save for a few minor aesthetic differences, and one of them you'll never even have to use. The obstacle course one raises your strength and dexterity, and the forest one raises literally everything else. There's no skill specialization, here; you have to max them all in order to breed, so playing the third is just an inefficient waste of time. Given the slow, SLOW pace of the game, time-wasting is the last thing you want to do.

Conclusion: Children might find it marginally entertaining, but they probably won't have the patience to finish the game. I'm not sure that I even have the patience to finish the game. With that said, I hear that this makes a great joke purchase for friends, especially given the low price.

It's hard to review a game that most people buy as some sort of joke. Haha unicorns amirite? Not funny. This game doesn't deserve the reputation it gets, and if people played more than 2 minutes they would understand. I will seperate this review in "pros" and "cons" with a final conclusion.

Pros: The game runs well on my macbook pro (got it for $1'500.00, it's usually $2'000.00!) and really utilizes the macbook's retina display. When looking at the state of gaming industry and it's broken new releases it's good to see a developer who cares about making a game that WORKS (ugh why do I have to even write that smh!) The game itself very friendly but also includes a rare demon unicorn for the more advanced user. Looks like this developer found a balance between casual and elitist gameplay, something other companies fail to do.

Cons: When you eventually complete the game and want to replay on your eleventh playthough, the game isn't as exciting. My steam achievement don't save. Every once in awhile my laptop shuts down when it has no battery power left.

Conclusion: Overall a great game with some minor problems but whatever problems that are encountered can be easily fixed by buying a new macbook.

A completely maddening game that is extremely repetitive and not in a good way. You will be doing the same thing over and over to do the simple things. Breeding is maddening because you can't use the same horses that you breeded a level higher to breed another colt. You have to do the whole process over again to get another colt. The process of training a horse is annoying because there is no fast way to do it except doing the same thing over and over again. There is little to control when it comes to quests or races, you don't get to control them at all, all you get to do is send them to the race and quest. The music so just one song. Turning down all the sound in the game doesn't do anything and it sounds like someone grinding their teeth and breathing heavy the whole time. The good thing about this game is the graphics and cool looking horses. I wish I had more time with the colt but they turn into an adult with in mins. This is a tedious game, just stay away from this one.

Seriously worth the $10, but luckily I saved money and bought it on sale. I was so excited to buy it, I didn't even notice the full package deal one, so sadly I only got the base game.

This game is like grand theft auto meets farmville. This game has endless hours of fun, you'll never get bored. They even graciously added a cash shop system for you to spend your money on in-game cash to upgrade your farm, well and much, much more!

If you choose not to buy this game, you're really missing out on something great. I highly recommend this great game.

Honestly I have to say that I cannot recommend this game. Upon the 9 minutes of playtime, I felt that I had enough experience to share my opinion on this game. As I am an elite horse groomer and stable cleaner, I feel that this game is honestly lacking core mechanics that would make it into something so much better. The gunplay is very off, and a lot of the animations feel as if the developers did not put a lot of time into them. The reload animations especially are very off-putting. The matchmaking can be tedious at times, whereas it can take up to 30 minutes to find a simple Search and Destroy match. Prestiging does not give you as many benefits as it did in this game's predecessor.

All in all, I can not recommend this game, but hopefully the devs learn from their mistake when making the sequel.

AUDIO: Repetitive                                         AESTHETIC:
MEMORABILITY:                                              WORTH:

PROS: Nice art and graphics. Ranch management, magical pet and racing elements all in one, may be simple enough to entertain a young child while babysitting.

CONS: DLC multiplayer is disappointing! It shouldn't be something one has to pay for. Beyond the mini-games, the game is a time-grind. There aren't any aesthetic options beyond going upward in price for ranch and horse-related purposes.

OVERALL: There aren't enough interactive/bonding options for a pet-simulator like Nintendogs. There isn't enough customizable about the ranch to be a rewarding management game like Harvest Moon. Competition isn't in-depth enough to compete with a magical monster genre like Pokemon. This game cobbles together facets of other games that work but doesn't deliver on any of them.

SCORE: 4/10

The people who built the models for the horses have never actually seen one move... horses do not trot like camels. If you think that then maybe you should have made a magical mystical camel game instead of embarassing yourself by displaying your obvious lack of animal anatomy education (or the ability to do a google quick search and figure it out). I have to say it's pretty sad that someone went through the trouble to make something like this, and yet were so rediculously lazy. This game doesn't have alot going for it outside of visuals, they could have at least spent some time making it correct. I like the game and (while I am embarassed to say it) I play it from time to time. It's a nice relaxing end to the workday since it's basically a mindless yet pretty kids game.

The thickest plot I've ever seen in a game. By the end of the game I was crying, not because of the mystical ending but because it was over. I've never felt so connected to a main character, every time s/he would tell the horse to "jump" or "run" I felt it was exactly how I would say it. I felt I was there, I was the one commanding the beings. And the sense of adventure was beyond other games, "collect cystals" Amazing. Driven. Deep. Step aside shadowmere, the horses in this game make you look like a equus ferus caballus.

This is one of those games. The ones on Steam that don't look like they fit in, and that's alright.

Secret of the Magic Crystal is a game that one of my friends bought me as a joke, a joke that I perpetuated to the point where I would say "Who wants a quick session of Secret of the Magic Crystal?". Of course joking.

However, it never accured to me to actually play the game. So, one lazy afternoon, I sat down and played 40 minutes of Secret of the Magic Crystal. Now I don't know how many of you have played 40 minutes of Secret of the Magic Crystal. But by god was it the worst experience of pony raising I've ever had. I got so immersed, that those 40 minutes, only felt like 39.

P.S. - I would recommend this game for your 3-8 year old daughter, as anyone else is not the intended demographic.

Like a good sequel should, Secret of the Magic Crystals: Secret of the Magic Crystals doesn’t ignore the formula of fast, fluid gameplay that has made the series famous, but introduces a unique new premise, unprecedented player personalization, and sweeping changes that breathe new life into the multiplayer experience. It’s over-the-top and at times unnecessarily complex, but serves both current and next-generation consoles with ambitious new ideas and tremendous replay value

Much like its predecessors, Secret of the Magic Crystals appeals to a wide audience, from veteran fans to timid newcomers by challenging them to become knowledgeable trainers or fill the up the encyclopedic Pokedex. Thanks to an impressive amount of depth from elemental-based combat, it manages to pull off this difficult task right from the start.

You're a courier in these troubled times with no defined background. Just a seemingly regular guy or gal, you're tasked with delivering a package to the New Vegas strip, but let's just say complications arise. Though the story provides pops of color and a few necessary minor twists to keep things interesting, it's predictable just the same. There are three possible endings to the main quest, and similar to Fallout 3 at launch, once you complete it you won't be able to continue your journey through the wastelands unless you re-load an old save. This is a bummer, especially since that was a major complaint with Fallout 3 and Bethesda later fixed it with downloadable content.

Finally, one subtle, but important improvement that has been made in Secret of the Magic Crystals is its brilliant considerations for two- and three-player games. You can now turn off the computer-controlled opponents entirely, and the mini-games all adjust to your group size in clever ways. Secret of the Magic Crystals veterans will no doubt recall the monotony of waiting for a computer-controlled player to take a turn, and the pathetic artificial intelligence on display in mini-games.

The Verdict

Secret of the Magic Crystals isn't a good video game. It's arguably not even a fun one. But its no-frills approach and exacting, relentlessly repetitious gameplay make it an addictive short-term distraction for the skill and score-obsessed. It's an unicorn that sings only one note, and though it sings it well, it does so while flying needlessly low to the ground.

Pros:
+Good Sound
Cons:
-Lack of creativity
-No real choices

Pros: I have a horned demon God horse called DoomFart.

Cons: the rest of the game plays like a bad mash-up between a slow DDR, glitchy mariokart and staring at a countdown clock.

Overall, I'd give this 15.5 horseshoes out of 20 haystacks, because what else are you going to do with your horseless life.
