What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Because we need players to help us find the flaws and voice their preferences. Let us know what you think, we’re listening!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until September 2016!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The difference comes mostly from balancing, stability, support for more languages and obviously more content being added during Early Access. So our final version will be better in all ways, compared to our first early access version.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is stable enough to enjoy it today. Our main focus is to keep the early access version working at all time, and release new stable content through our weekly updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, the price will remain the same.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We highly value your input, let us know what your thoughts are on the game. Obviously we need to find bugs and determine balancing issues. If you have suggestions for Marooners, please send them our way, we’d love to hear from you!

You can best contact us via the steam forum. You can also easily report bugs via an in-game popup (F6).”

Hello! This is just what I think of the game as far as gameplay, graphics and so forth on!
As far as gameplay goes, I love the concept of how you randomly stop in the middle of a mini game which forces the player to try to play safe or just risk it and not care. And as for the mini-games I would suggest adding more in the future or add some sort of "other map's" with other mini games on them or something like "certain maps contain a certain style of mini games or themes" or something in those sorts. Anyways the graphics are just phenomenal and the rest of the game is fantastic other then not being able to find players at a time...
The game overall is great and I hope to see the community grow bigger and I also hope the game keeps updating with new content/players/maps/mini games and so forth. Love the game!

For the short time that I have played this game, I can definetly reccommend it. Now, since I recieved the game for free my review may seem a little biased.

I have to say that the game is definetly a great game to play with your friends, and the devs are very friendly and talk with the community.

This game is one of the first on my list whenever my friends come over for some simple couch gaming fun! The controls are easy to learn, objective is simple, yet there is so much gameplay value. The developers are also active and fast in fixing the bugs in the game. New contents are still being churned out weekly. If you like simple couch co-op back to PS1 days, this is it!

Hmmm, the minigames change randomly to a new game, while youre in the middle of 1.
And it should be nice if the games have a kind of story. The way to win is to get as much coins as you can. It should be a lot better if you can play with that coins on a boardgame(like mario party)

Marooners is a fantastic party game that takes the usual style of gameplay and adds it’s own unique twist.

Early Access
Marooners is currently in an early access state but it seems like it's nearing full release. Everything plays really well (I think I encountered two bugs in my entire time of playing) and there is a nice amount of content (I am unsure if they plan to add more). In game there is also a handy banner telling you when the next update is due so you’re constantly aware of when to check back for new things and can know the developers are actively working on it.

General Gameplay
Marooners is an objective based party game that consists of many different minigames all with their own goals. Instead of choosing each minigame one by one though you'll find a unique twist to Marooners in which the game will switch between mini games randomly whilst you’re playing, saving where everyone was in that stage and reverting back to that randomly without warning.
There are many different minigames from ones where you’ll be running from a giant boulder whilst dodging objects to games where you’ll have to dig down as far and fast as you can avoiding unbreakable blocks on your way. In every game you’ll be competing against at least one opponent and you can play with five other people at any one time. Each minigame is unique and insanely fun!
You can find powerups in game such as a magnet to draw coins towards you, bombs to throw at your opponents and a speed boost for a few seconds all adding a minor advantage to your gameplay. They are dropped randomly in play so everyone has an equal chance to grab one...if they’re quick enough.
Throughout each minigame you’ll find yourself picking up coins and at the end all the coins are tallied up, the winner is whoever has collected the most across all of the minigames so even if you win the most minigames you still might just lose if someone else played it smarter. If you win a minigame though you have a chance to grab a trophy for 25 points meaning you are more likely to win if you are the sole survivor of each one!!!
To avoid repetitiveness in gameplay around half of the minigames are included in each rotation and they are completely randomized so it doesn’t feel like you’re ever playing the same two games twice.
After each full game is completed everyone who was playing will unlock a new cosmetic weapon or character for use in future plays. As I mentioned all the items and characters you can play as are superficial only and add no stat bonus or otherwise to your gameplay. I think this keeps things fair whilst still allowing you a great amount of customization. It also makes it easier for you to switch players or weapons without feeling like you are being penalized for liking one more than another.

Sound & Graphics
The graphics are really nice with a cartoony feel yet they don’t feel childish. Everything is vibrant without being too in your face. The soundtrack is pretty much what you’d expect from a party game but with a semi-tribal theme to it. Both work well in the game and give it that perfect party theme without feeling serious.

Pros
--- Great party minigames.
--- Online and Local play.
--- Ability to play Local and Online at the same time (up to 4 local and filled with online).
--- Up to 6 players (4 local + 2 online or up to 6 online).
--- 2 players per keyboard (optional).
--- Choice of characters & weapons to choose from (superficial only).
--- Cosmetic unlocks after each game for everyone, win or lose.

Cons
--- A few more mini-games wouldn’t hurt.
--- Not many players online at once currently.
--- No multipack on sale!!!!
--- When it’s just two players it feels like the minigames switch too fast.
--- No choice on how many minigames are included in each play.

Summary
Marooners is in early access still but seems very close to it’s full release. There are multiple minigames to keep you and your pals busy and the unique twist on the usual style of party games is great. Though there are not many players right now for online play if you have friends with the game or can play locally then Marooners is a great purchase. With active devs who listen to community feedback I can see this game reaching it’s full potential and being worth every cent.

It's a really fun party game with little minigames similar to some of those you'd find in Mario Party. The point of each one is to get as much treasure as possible. There are 4 characters now (at the start of Early Access) with a variety of colors to choose from. It's still in development but plays great and the visuals are fantastic!

Basically how the game plays out is you play a minigame, but partway through it, you switch to another one. If you die in one minigame, you are out of that one but will still keep playing in the other ones. There will sometimes appear a really big treasure idol that's worth a ton so it's worth trying to get your hands on.

You can play Local, With Friends (this is how you can play with your buddies), and Online with other random people. The matches can be longer or quick but are usually around 5-10 minutes on average.

Overall, a ton of fun and easy to get into! Also the devs are awesome and very quick to respond to questions about the game! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great family friendly party game for all ages! 10/10

For early access, this game is super fun, and has the promise of a lot of tweaks and new features to come. Chaotic and whacky, definitely a party game. I would definitely recommend using a controller, though.

Currently quite limited given its early access state but still relatively fun.

The game is basically a party game that throws together a bunch of minigames. Instead of playing each game through you have a set amount of game modes that you will randomly jump between (every 20-30 seconds or so). Progress is saved in each game mode so when you jump back to a previous one you will carry on from where you left off.

At first this mechanic was confusing and irritating, however I think it has potential to be fun. Either way I would be surprised if in future versions alternate game mdoes aren't available.

Some of the issues include poor balancing in one game mode, limited game modes and limited diversity of game modes (all of them are about collecting coins).

Usually these isues would not concern me in an early access however the Early Access FAQ says that it will only be in early access for “A few months max.” I expect we will see some balancing changes and maybe, at most twice as much content. The game, unfortunately, needs more work than this to reach its full potential.

That being said its still a reasonable game.

Marooners is a fast paced partygame that will put a smile on your face!

PROS:
- Easy to learn
- Constantly switching gamemodes makes losing trivial
- Being able to nick coins off your friends!

CONS:
- No chat communications between players

Once you install, hit play to play and the game takes it from there. A small instruction before each gamemode tells you all you need to know. After a short period of time the gamemode will switch, saving player positions and starting (or continuing) with another gamemode. About half a dozen different gamemodes per session will be played, picking up where you left off untill each mode is finished. The player with the most accumulated coins wins!

One gamemode will have you running on breaking ice while gusts of wind try push you into oblivion. Other times you will be dodging boulders while your friends throw bombs in your direction, or stealing a coin cannon from your friends.

All minigames are original games and have a fitting upbeat soundtrack.

There is already so much value in this Early Acces game, not to mention the realtime update countdown.

This game is definitely to be recommended!

this game is really fun like a seriously great game to goof around with friends on like mario party and either hate eachother or laugh your asses off. great fun multiplayer, definitely worth it and you guys should all buy it in the hopes that more buyers will mean more mini games. it is currently in early access and has some small bugs like in idol stage u can stand in the corner and not have it stolen but they are aware of what needs fixing and it sounds like soon itll be nice and polished.

some negative reviews focus on the difficulty of finding people to play with online presently and i dont think its necessarily fair to judge it on that based on it being recently released on early access. like the minor bugs i think its something that will not be an issue soon

anyways everything else is pretty cool it has some small problems that will likely be temporary so imo if you are looking for something trolly and fun to play with friends def get this game!!!!!!! its super fun
