The future of Prism Studios and our next game!

Hey everyone!

We're incredibly excited to announce that we've made the leap from mod team to an indie studio!
Recently we've started to work on our first brand new game!

The game is called DR01D!

DR01D is a VR first person puzzle game with a strong narrative, based around solving puzzles simultaneously alongside robot companions who you direct about the map to help you complete tasks, retrieve objects etc. The game takes place in the future, you are part of an advanced AI tasked with fixing your space station after it suffered damage during a meteor storm that has wiped out life on Earth. You will do training puzzles before going down to and fix the station. We're still very early in production so we don't have too many more details to share with you!

We did an interview with Games NI, where you can get a bit more information about DR01D and the team:

Feel free to follow us on our social media:

And for DR01D specifically:

About This Game

Portal Stories: Mel is a community made, free modification for Portal 2 based in the Portal universe.
It tells the story of Mel, who meets a new personality core and faces an undiscovered threat to the Aperture facility.

1952, in the early years of Aperture: Science Innovators, Cave Johnson’s scientists experimented with whatever they wanted. Not everything worked as it should have though, but that wasn't going to get in the way of the progress of Science! Mel unfortunately took part in a faulty test called the Aperture: Science Innovators Short-Term Relaxation Vault, falling asleep for years. When she finally wakes, there is a fake Cave Johnson telling her she needs to escape the facility and a new device called the Aperture Handheld Portal Device, her mind races with questions. “Who is this imposter Cave Johnson?” “What happened to the facility and its staff?”

"What happened to me?"

After finishing Portal 2, I was pretty satisfied. But of course I always craved for more. Portal Stories: Mel did that justice and that's saying something. This insanely good (and free, did I mention tat?) mod has the standard and quality of VALVe. Prism Studios, thank you for this wonderful experience.
If you own Portal 2, there is absolutely no reason why you wouldn't get this amazing mod. I honestly cannot do it justice in words, go play it yourself silly! Stop reading reviews.
Also props to Harry, for this amazing soundtrack.

A must-play for all the Portal fans that just need to play more Portal and also for everyone else, really, it's reaaaally good!
The story is great, the gameplay is nice and the stages are pretty well made and detailed and needs some thinking in order to find your way!
P.S. Easy to 100% but i don't remember exactly how much time it took me :/

Overall an amazing game, I loved every second of it (albiet how incredibly hard it was as I played the game pre-easy and hard mode update. I personally wish that this was canon to the Portal and Half-Life universe, the game was made with a Valve quality standard. You will not regret playing this, every second is worth it!

Pros: By mod standards, this is amazing. Not glitchy, the story fits nicely into the canon for the most part, at least four hours of gameplay on your first time through (took me almost six and I consier myself a fairly competent player), and it even features original assets and its own soundtrack that are just as good as what you'd find in the official game. If you liked the original Portal Soundtrack, which is also free btw, I would recommend downloading this just for the music. Honestly, the pros should be longer, but I'm better at pointing out what could be improved than what was done right.

Cons: It didn't feel quite as polished as the original game. The loading was much more noticable, the voice acting was sub-par, it's technically not canon no matter how hard it tries to be, it had prerendered cutscenes scattered randomly throughout the story, too many achivements for dieing, and most of the test chamber solutions involved deactivating material emancipation grills.
The loading happened more frequently than the official game, and in less consistent locations. For the most part, Portal 2 had all its loading in elevators, and occasionally between weird airlock doors. It usually kept the location of the player consistent through the process, which the mod fails to do. While keeping the player's location consistent seems like it would be difficult, the level design could have been altered to smooth out the loading screens.
I didn't like the voices in this game. Virgil was kind of annoying, AEGIS was unthreatening, and, most importantly, Cave Johnson didn't sound like Cave Johnson.
The cutscenes really took me out of the moment. They were slow, often full of dialogue, and had noticably different graphics from the rest of the game. I think Portal did cutscenes way better simply by avoiding them almost completely.
Way too many achivements for dieing in specific ways. Some of them were obvious, but you really don't want more than two or three of these in a game.
In the official game, the emancipation grills are almost never shut down by the player. They are the ultimate obstacle to get around, so it's kind of strange to just be able to turn them off in most of the tests. It honestly feels like they're just padding the playtime with them, especially when the solution to so many chambers in a row is to figure out what turns them off.
Also, we had a token companion cube dropped unceremoniously into our laps.Seeing as Mel had no previous encounters with one, there's no reason for her to go after it, or feel sad when it fizzles out right away. It creates a disconnect between the player and the character, and really took me out of the moment.
As a final nitpick, I didn't believe Virgil when he said the water was rising. I'm not sure if it would have risen eventually, had it taken me a while to solve the test chambers, but I saw no indication that it was moving at all. It definitely needed some way to establish it as a threat. The obvious answer is a timed test chamber where the water visibly rises. It has to be obvious, even if it's slow enough to give less experienced players a fighting chance.

Overall: It's not perfect, but what do you want? It's a free DLC sized mod with a free soundtrack. If it weren't so good, I wouldn't bother pointing out what I thought could be better. Most stuff wouldn't even come close to the official game's quality, and this nearly made it.

Prism Studios: A'ight, there you go, we're finally done with Portal 2 Episode 1.

Valve: No, call it anythin' but that...we don't want to be the butt of you-know-what-number jokes all over again.

12/10 still can't believe it's a community mod O_O

The coolest but worst Portal gaming experience I've ever had. I got frustrated right away due to lack of direction either by the lack of dialog hints, or structural & lighting hints. I had to stop playing mid way through campaign because I got stuck on multiple maps over 20 minutes each.
