About This Game

Portal Stories: Mel is a community made, free modification for Portal 2 based in the Portal universe.
It tells the story of Mel, who meets a new personality core and faces an undiscovered threat to the Aperture facility.

1952, in the early years of Aperture: Science Innovators, Cave Johnson’s scientists experimented with whatever they wanted. Not everything worked as it should have though, but that wasn't going to get in the way of the progress of Science! Mel unfortunately took part in a faulty test called the Aperture: Science Innovators Short-Term Relaxation Vault, falling asleep for years. When she finally wakes, there is a fake Cave Johnson telling her she needs to escape the facility and a new device called the Aperture Handheld Portal Device, her mind races with questions. “Who is this imposter Cave Johnson?” “What happened to the facility and its staff?”

"What happened to me?"

Super high-quality mod. The story was unique and inventive, the characters were pretty well done, and the tie-in to the main game was likewise creative and well done. Some of the puzzles were difficult, but the pace ran just right, and I was able to solve them all without getting too stuck. The only complaint I have about this mod is that they relied a few too many times on the "find the portal-able surface to get to the next place" routine, without making it obvious enough every time where the next portal-able surface was. I spent too much time wondering "where am I supposed to put a portal?" It's a relatively small complaint, as these parts didn't hold me up for long, either..

And the thing is free. They could've charged a few bucks for this and I'd have considered it worth it. It's about as close as you can come to playing Portal 2 without playing Portal 2, but it has its own unique story, characters, and even some custom models. Definitely get this if you already have Portal 2. If it's not installed, I'd say this is worth the reinstall. It was pretty good.

For the curious: I have 5.1 hours on record after finishing this (And I did leave it open for at least a few minutes a couple times). You may take longer, or finish faster than I did, but it's at least a ballpark estimate of how long this takes to finish. That said, I haven't looked at "Advanced Mode" yet. No idea what that is.

Far and away one of the best mods you can get for Portal 2. Great voice acting, genius level design, if you are thinking about getting it, think no more. It's free.

Pros: Very well made puzzles
Lots of gameplay
Good voice acting
Pleasant story.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Overall I really enjoyed the game. If you are a fan of the Portal series, you basically can't not like this game. Free as it is, it is definitely a game worth playing.

Portal 2.
New Game+ Edition.

So this is a mod for Portal 2, except it's so big that it couldn't fit in the Workshop, no, they put it in the store.
It's free, and if you liked Portal 2, it has several brand new puzzles and a pretty good story that supposedly accidentally starts the story of Portal 2. If you liked Portal 1, buy Portal 2 and this and play both.

More challenging than Portal 1 and 2 combined, and it should cost something, because it's about as good as them too.

Deserves all the praise it is getting. Fantasitc game. My only gripe is that it is basically the same puzzle type for the entirety of the game. Get to the end > then find a way to bring your companion cube with you. Portal is a bit more diverse than this, but even still that is not really a drawback. This is basically Portal 3 and it is far harder than the original titles (this is a good thing).

Probably one of the best unofficial DLC stories I have ever played. 20/10 will be recommending to other friends. Kicking myself that I never even knew this existed until today.

This mod is absolutely wonderful if you are ready to face some frustration when you can't solve a puzzle.

The bossfight is probably the worst in gaming history, though. You are not battling the game, you are battling the phsics engine, which keeps ♥♥♥♥ing up your game. That is only the final boss, the rest of the game is superb.

This is easily one of the best games I have ever played. Both portal 1 and 2 has had a huge impact on me and my favorite games and I can say that I count this as a valve made portal game. Not gonna lie. It is very confusing. That made me have to watch harry101uk's play through a couple of times to advance in the story. But after you beat the game, some aspects in test chambers are made easier. like instead of 7 steps to complete one chamber it is reduced to 5 in some chambers. I have had to play it again, and i am now going to play portal over again. (SPOILER ALERT) it changes everything if you count it as a portal game.

This is the Cadillac of Mods.

Portal Stories: Mel clocks in at 8ish hours, making it a full campaign. The puzzles are devilishly hard, the story engaging. Provided you own Portal 2, it's free. Even if you don't, the price of Portal 2 is worth it to play this excellent mod.

It isn't without fault - signposting is a little lacking, the humour hit-and-miss - but these are incredibly minor flaws considering you're getting the whole package for the princely sum of zero £/$/whatever.

You have no excuse not to give this one a go.
