Dirt Rally Update - Version 1.2

Hi all,

Version 1.2 of DiRT Rally has arrived, bringing with it Oculus Rift support! If you have an Oculus kit, here are some top tips to make the most of your new DiRT experience...

• To get the game to boot in VR, simply plug in your Oculus headset before you press Play in Steam.
• We don’t recommend you turn on VR in the Steam Client, as doing so will disable the Steam Overlay on the desktop image of the game.
• To re-centre your view, just hit the Left Ctrl key.
• We have added configurable options in the HUD settings in order to reduce motion sickness, which are active by default. We’ve also given each track a comfort rating as a guide to help control motion sickness.
• DK2 does work with the VR version of DiRT Rally.
In terms of fixes, it’s a very short list – but this is one that will improve some of your replays no end:
• Graphics - Motion blur being applied to AI cars.
As always, please let us know if you’ve got any feedback about this patch in the usual places – like here, on our Codemasters forums, or on Reddit – but we hope you enjoy the update!

- Art - We’ve updated Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the event, complete with official PPIHC logos and branding.

Without a rally school to practice and hone skills its a frustrating game to play.

You need to grind on full courses and experience the frustrations of messing up again and again. This is something that happens I know, but there should be a sandbox training school as to not waste so much time messing up a track because of the steap learning curve.

And for a game in 2016, with so many other cheaper games with a lot more content, it seems the content in this game is lacking.

If you can handle the frustrations you might see over the lack of content for the fun of mastering tracks and cars.

I was getting concerned about the lack of good VR content, this game has officially restored my faith. I played quite a bit on the non VR version and the improvement in my driving after switching to VR is substantial. I can anticipate turns much better and have an overall better feel for the driving dynamics of the vehicle. Oh, and this isn't a crappy VR port, it feels tailor made for the goggles.

Went back to Project Cars VR, huge fan of 2D version btw, for a comparison. Dirt puts it to shame. Graphics settings remain extensive and I have them maxed on an MSI 1070 with oculus debug tool set to 1.5. Like butter after the 2 most recent Nvidia driver updates.

It's relatively intense mentally, not motion sickness mind you, and I usually need to take a break after an hour or so. This is a good thing and reminds me of the adrenaline drain after going to a real track, although not quite that dramatic.

If you want to play a rally game that does not give a monkeys if you were any good at Dirt 1, 2 or 3 then this is the game. Expect exstream pain as your on the last streach on your entire season about to finish in first place then you completely ♥♥♥♥ up the last corner and end up coming 4th and have to restart the race and loose money or the season. Safe to say this game is bloody incredible and yet so bloody annoying. Will play this game till I die. While also buying a new controller to play in with as the last one got thrown across the room as I lost the last race of season after a near perfect season.

The cars all drive about the same, nothing feels different in each class. Would have liked to feel like my car selection is based on engineering preference but it comes down to a much simpler formula of finding the best car in each category. But this is an Arcade racer, not a simulator.

I'm enjoying it immensely when I don't have to race AI in RallyCross. The AI will fishtail, t-bone, and rear end you as a team. They never do it to each other and that makes racing them feel utterly ridiculous. That is a seriously bad flaw that destroys immersion like a shotgun to the balls.

I definitely recommend this game but wait for it to go on sale. It's not worth full price as it is now and probably won't ever be. There just isn't enough truly enjoyable content. Rally is a great mode that this game excells in but Hill Climb and Rally Cross just blow all that Rally does right. Yes, there are a ton of cars to unlock, however, once you've driven one in each segment, you've driven all of them. The only major differences are in engine placement and drive wheel setup. And for each setup? They all drive the same.

Don't spend more than $30 on this game. It's fun but it's not great.

With the Oculus Rift VR support added all I can say is wow. I've been playing project cars for some time in VR as well as games like Elite Dangerous and War Thunder but nothing has beaten DiRT Rally for immersion. This game showcases how great VR is. Unfortunately once you play it in VR you will never be able to use a monitor again, it is epic.

30 hrs of gameplay

First things first dirt rally is one of those games that will make you love and hate yourself and the same time, it is very fun and enjoyable once you understand the small tricks for getting a better time anywhere. All though if you are really grinding the game to try and get the community delta achievements and keep messing up you will get angry. Just give up for the night and try some other time.

Dirt rally was one of those games that I played for about 3 hours at first then got bored of it and left it for about 2 weeks and came back to it, Boy am I glad I did . I absolute love this game. Became really addicting and fun. Even just doing a Hotseat type game with my friends was really fun and we had a great laugh.

    Tips for beginning
  • learn the basics I.e. Callouts, difference between FWD, RWD, 4WD
  • The Scandinavian flick is extremely useful (shifting the cars weight in the opposite direction of a upcoming corner and flick into it, to gain a faster speed exiting the corner)
  • don’t worry about not coming first every time you’ll get better soon
Dirt Rally comes with no bulls***, Just good and gritty driving, no drifting or story line (Colin McRae dirt 2)

Overall this is the best "Dirt" that i have played (I have played Dirt 2, Dirt 3, Dirt rally) In fact this is the best driving game i have played to date.

I would highly recommend this game. 9 /10 (some small bug fixes needed)

Specs
16 GB ram
i5 4690K
970 Ti
This game does not take that much to run but needs high specs for ultra-high graphics.

This game is hard to play with a keyboard, a controller or steering wheel is a lot easier. There is no rewinds (dirt 2) restarting a Stage cost ingame money

50 hrs of gameplay

Listen to your co-driver.
The reason for co-driver calls is to describe the road ahead so that despite having not driven the stage before you can confidently attack the stage. Listening to the calls gives you a mental picture of the road ahead allowing you to approach corners with an understanding of the challenges they will present. Timing is crucial and in Dirt Rally.
Scenery can be distracting if you’re speeding round a corner in the Greek hills with near death cliffs and the co-driver calls “right 3, Don’t cut” but it looks like a “right 5, cut “don’t go with your perception of the course listen to him he will give you an advantage overall if you learn how to control the car over all terrain and in all corner type situations

About DiRT Rally
DiRT Rally is the most authentic and thrilling rally game made, road-tested over 80 million miles by the DiRT community. ~ Release Date: 7 Dec, 2015

Graphics
Game looks fantastic. There's a few things that Codemasters should improve like the spectators. They kinda look ugly for a 2015 game. And there's a few visual bugs related to shadows but nothing too severe. Interiors are BEAUTIFUL, full of details and speaking about details, the game is full of them inside and outside the vehicles. The mud, the burning brakes at night...

Sound
Again, fantastic job. Cars sound incredible, specially the group B. You can even hear the window rattle. Soundtrack is nice, nothing too fancy but does the job.

Gameplay
Now, this is where the game proves that is not a DiRT4. Rally is closer to simulation than ever before. There's a few options to make the experience a lil close to arcade (ABS, TCS, stuff like that) but if you turn them all off the game feels pretty realistic. I can't say how close is to RBR but one thing is certain, this is completely different to DiRT or even CM.

And they added a few features, like upgrades for the cars (Nothing too powerful to make that Mini the ultimate rally car) and staff management, where you choose the team, pay their salaries, fire them and ofc each one has different stats that affect for example, the amount of damage they can repair between stages.

All in All DiRT Rally is a nice Rally Game :-)

10/10 From Me
