“While IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad is still approachable to folks who have yet to unbox their first flightstick, it should have plenty to offer for veterans of air combat”
IGN

“One thing’s for sure, any aircraft that does find its way into this sim is going to be rivet-perfect visually and bally persuasive in the flight modelling department”
PCGamer

“Although IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad is simple enough to play, it also features a lot of depth and technical detail. This is much more a deep simulation than the free-to-play flight games that are very popular right now”
Polygon

Highly reccomend this game since they removed the grinding system. However, don't buy if you don't have a joystick, which goes for pretty much all flight sims.

I have been a fan of the IL2 series since the release of 1946 and Pacific Fighters, and this game nails the simulation feeling I've been looking for the entire time. The game includes amazing physics, realistic flight dynamics and awesome camera angles and shake. I would seriously recommend this to any flight simulator enthusiast. Good job, devs!

With all of the content and community- requested features in the pipeline I can say that this dev team deserves your money. The game released as an unpolished gem but the actions of the developers prove this will be an IL2 worthy of the name. Can't wait for DX11 and full VR support!

This is by far the best WW2 combat flight simulator out there. Graphics are great and overall the game mechanics work good. The only thing lacking in this game is a career mode and training tutorials

Great flight models, great visuals, suberb audio, so much atmosphere, really nice damage modelling and great effects, but... the single player experience is quite dull and as far as I can tell its not possible (or perhaps easy) to run a private coop. 1C have removed some of the annoyances in the initial release and made this more of a simulator, but it still has a little way to go, Rise of Flight feels like a more complete package to me.

I'm amazed at this game. Here's my experience:

I look over my shoulder to see my wingman in a line abreast formation a couple hundred meters away. His 6 o'clock is clear and I glance anxiously above every so often for the cold contrails of a 109 on the hunt, looking to bounce us. The snowy Russian steppe stretches out beneath us. Sunlight filters through a broken layer of low clouds. We flit in and out of them periodically. My engine drones on and I adjust the RPM setting. The engine note rumbles lower. I lean over the edge of the cockpit window and verify my fuel gauge reads above 20. I adjust the mixture setting. Again. I glance at my comrade. THERES AN AIRCRAFT DIVING ON HIS HIGH 6! "BREAK BREAK BREAK!", I yell. I slam the throttle and prop controls to FULL and dive after them. This $UC*ER is not getting my wingman I think to myself. And the game is on...

ONE. WORD.

IMMERSION!

Play this game if thats what you are looking for in a WW2 air combat sim. Nothing else comes close.

Oh, and learn to taxi. Thats is all. :)

1C has been improving this title since release. IMO best WWII flight sim currently out. I think the best way to enjoy the sim is through multiplayer. The singleplayer aspect could use a little more attention, but has been improved through third party campaign generators.

This is one of the best sims on the market, and the current definitive sim for Stalingrad and Moscow in the early to mid-war.

There is a steep learning curve, and reading is definitely required.

This sim truly shines online with scenario based events and on-going wars such as TAW, which you can read about/sign up for on the IL-2 forums. The community is incredibly diverse, from all over the globe, but the vast majority are helpful to a fault.

If you are a fan of WW2, flying, combat, or any combination of the above, this game will not disappoint.

That being said, it is by no means something you're going to jump in and dominate on day one, unless you're a dedicated simmer.

I am not a sim player normally, but I got this game to just dabble with. It has been a great game, and can be very challenging at times. Overall the sim is very accurate, especially at the hightest difficulty setting, which includes complex engine management (radiators, fuel/air mixture, boost) if you are not juggling all those settings you can burn out your engine.

The flight model has several different difficulty levels as well, and can be quite challenging if your like me and have not played with a really acurate sim in a while.

The number of groud vehicles that you can shoot up, bomb or rocket is pretty impressive and you can even drive the Pz III or T-34.

The custom planes can be flown with any version of the game, so while I only own Battle of Stalingrad, I also bought the P-40 and fly it in the BoS campaign.

The next set of premium planes will be available by the end of the year. They are the Yak-1b and JU-52.

Great SIM!
I nice inbetween from War Thunder and the Ultimate realism of DCS.
A great starting SIM for people who want to get into the Flight Sim genre

If your looking for anything Arcade then don't even think about purchasing this game.
I can not stress that enough.

After reading through many of the older negative reviews, I realized most of their issues are completely fixed by the dev team, or are in the process of being fixed, or were not really problems with the game at all.

For example, the campaign isn't limited to only randomly generated missions, the devs are including more and more scripted missions, and with plans to have a larger scripted component in the single player of future releases.
There are also no unlocks whatsoever, including all in-game aircraft skins.

Performance issues have been greatly reduced, my computer used to struggle back when the game (and my system) were new. With the introduction of 64bit, the game runs smooth as butter, and Direct X 11 is on its way.

the graphics are really good. but there is a major problem in the gameplay. this game is too realistic , does not have a good arcade mode , does not allow reloading of weapons by default. this made the game too much of a chore to play bcoz of too much realism. Will revise this review if the reloading of weapons is made more practical / good arcade mode is created.
