What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“More things are constantly being added and the experience will change over time. It's less beta testing at this point and more expanding on the game, although bugs and glitches are inevitable.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Most likely for several months, but it will depend on what the community thinks.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current final release goal is to improve graphics, upgrade networking functionality, create more content and provide full Windows, OSX and Linux support.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is completely playable with hours and hours of content to explore.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“It will remain free, but the abilities provided by Gold may change. Nothing that will make the game pay to win, however.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Throughout all of the development so far popularly recommended ideas have been added to the game. This will continue through the Steam release with the forums. The Steam Workshop could also be integrated to allow the community to create their own content. Polls are widely used to gauge community interest in various ideas.”

April Roadmap

Hello!

Going into April the majority and more of features and content from 2.0 are in place, but the game is still lacking in some regards such as killstreaks and spacecraft. This month you can expect several new planets to explore in variety of extraterrestrial vehicles as well as a powerful arsenal of score-based rewards ranging from UAVs to tactical nukes.

This new focus on interplanetary zombie survival will really build on the immersion and realism you've all come to expected from Unturned.

The other minor goals for April are:

  • Framerate optimizations.
  • Networking optimizations.
  • Finalized user interface.
  • Improved server workshop support.
  • More content where needed. This will not be so much guns as unique vehicles like buses.
  • Balance the PEI map's locations and spawns. Right now the largest issues seem to be loot rarity, making Kensington more interesting and improving the city.
  • Balance existing content. For example the guns currently do far too much headshot damage to the mega zombie.
  • Bring 3.0 out of the preview branch? :D
Note: As some of you may have noticed a previous version was reverted to. Once both the menu and game UI are again in tip top shape you can expect the next update.

Thanks for reading!

3.8.9.5 Update Notes

Hello!

If you're interested in testing out this patch head on over to the Preview branch! You can gain access using the secret passcode "OPERATIONMAPLELEAF" in the Betas tab.

Additions:

  • Added new menu scene.
  • Added icons on the interactable bar.
Improvements:
  • Improved the in-game UI status bar positioning and scaling, blending it between old and new assets. (For now only to the inventory and not much at that, no time today unfortunately.)
Tweaks:
  • Tweaked repair and supplies crafting icons to stay more consistent with everything else.
  • Tweaked blueprint + and = to use icons rather than text.
  • Tweaked graphics names to be more understandable and defaulted Level of Detail to High.
Fixes:
  • Fixed generator placement using the wrong data type.
  • Fixed underground player spawns in the South East.
  • Fixed character box mouse offset.
Unfortunately due to old and new clashing together in some parts the UI is a disorganized, inconsistent mess. Over the next few days I will bring all the remaining untouched parts from yesterday along with the menu to scale better and to follow a standard based on your feedback.

Going forward here are the new style rules:
  • For dashboards take up as much space as possible, in-game use as little as possible.
  • Icon buttons will be 50x50 with a 40x40 image.
  • Text buttons will be 200x30 with no image.
  • Progress bars will be 200x30 with a 180x10 bar.
  • Scale well even down to 640x480.
  • Keep screen margins at 10 pixels.
In the future if you have feedback about an update please remain civil and post your ideas in a constructive fashion. Death threats/spam/"I hate it" are unhelpful, discouraging and are quickly deleted by the moderators.

Thanks for reading!

About This Game

Unturned is a sandbox game in the emerging multiplayer apocalypse survival genre. Rather than focusing on being an MMO it provides players with easy systems to sit down and survive the zombie infestation with their friends. Over the course of a typical adventure, groups will have a blast fortifying locations, scavenging for supplies, trying to live off the land and negotiating with other people. The game is being developed entirely with the community in focus, and tons of features are based entirely on feedback:

Fortification:
Players can build massive forts out of structural building blocks, or build onto smaller buildings in the world with barricades. It is also possible to create traps and intricate electronic systems. More options for building are constantly being added based on what the community requests.

Survival:
It is entirely possible to live off the wilderness by harvesting trees and rocks, growing crops and hunting animals down. What sort of survival stuff is added is entirely decided by the community.

Explore:
The game goes where the community wants it to. The initial release map is set on the lovely Prince Edward Island, but over the next few months many more locations will arrive for players to explore depending on what the community wants to see. Currently the island has plenty of interesting locations to discover and loot.

Bandits:
Players can choose to enter player versus player servers and battle other players to steal their gear. Banditry is highly supported with plenty of weapons and sneaky devices.

Heroes:
Players can join player versus environment servers to team up with other people, and easily create clans to play with their pals.

Early Access:
This is the first public release of the game, but new features and content are constantly getting added as a result of community feedback. You can see how far the game has come with the help of the community since the original testing prototype:

Ok, ok, I know what you are thinking, "this games is just a stupid copie of Minecraft, not worth it". Well let me just say, your wrong. This is the best game I have played with friends. It is basicaly a free (totally amazing) version of dayZ. The map is huge and the 3.0 version is so much better. here is a story of what happened when I first got the game.

I woke up stranded on a island with nothing at all. I found some pants and a Tshirt and set off. I searched and searched for a while untill I found a Glock stashed under a bed, and some food in the kitchen. I set off. I killed zombies as I went and eventually found another player. I thought he was friendly but it ended up otherwise. he pulled a revolver on me and said to hand over my stuff. I figured I had to move fast. I punched the guy in the face which he didn't expect and I ran behind a car. I checked my Glock, which only had two bullets. I knew I had to get at least two head-shots. I jumped on the car and shot and heard a load bang coming from his direction. I looked down and I was hit right on my Tshirt but I had jerked the trigger when I shot and hit him in the foot. I thought I was a dead man when suddenly I heard a siren. I looked at the road and saw a police speeding down the road. When he got out he said to drop our weapons, which I did without further promting. The robber on the other hand was quick to shoot at the officer. The cop ran behind his car and I knew it was all over when I saw him pull from his pack a MapleStrike with a 7x scope and silencer. Even though I knew he wasn't aiming at me I still hit the floor. When it was all over the police brought me to headquarters and checked me over. Once I was all fixed up he let me go with an extra revolver.

Hope this was helpful I rate this game a 10/10

What else can I say?

2.0 Unturned:
+ Easy to start off if you know what to do, you may die a few times, but it's worth it, because in the end, you'd have good stuff and basically "beat the game" in 2 weeks.

+ Smaller map, and if you spent your time on this game, you can basically memorize it. If not, find yourself a map at the airport.

+The graphics are... meh. Not the worst, but not the best. If you want good graphics, you have to suffer from lag.

+ Zombies are a joke if you spent your time on timing your hits and backpedaling.

3.0 Unturned:
+ If you "beat the game" for the 2.0 version, this version is a joke. You get everything you need fast, but in 1 hour instead of 2 weeks. That's how easy it is.

+ Zombies are much harder to kill due to the nerf on most weapons (Sledgehammer used to OHKO any zombie in the head, now its not), and they have longer attacking animations, so you have to practice fighting all over again.

+ MUCH BIGGER MAP AND GREAT IMPROVEMENT ON GRAPHICS, HOLY JARATE. (TF2 reference, don't judge)

+ Random cheat sheet when you open your menu and going into info, you can find yourself the whole f*cking map. Screw 2.0 PEI maps.

+ MOAR GUNS, EVEN MOTHER OF RUSSIA JOINED THIS WARFARE.

+ Zombies are stupid, they don't chase you out of the town.

+ Apparently Nelson plays TF2 as well, if you know what I mean, that means you found the secret item :)

Overall, excellent game, but too easy for anyone that has common sense, 10/10 will play agian xD

The map is to small. That is why you cant play hero. There is no forest, there is not place to hide. Everywere is a open space and you can't avoid that. I dont want to kill on sight. But I cant stay away from hostile players because the map is so small and lacking in shelter that you cant walk around the player and end up in the open. Also freshspawns (and the 4 year olds who kill) them are everywere. There is no designated spawn points, freshspawns just appear everywere. And because they dont even have clothes on there back they do stupid things. They try to punch you even when you clearly are going to win. Why? To piss you off because regaining health is harder than a brick wall. You cant even eat food to gain the tineist bit of health so your pretty mutch screwed. This story sums up the community that I have seen:

I was a fresh spawn. wearing only some pants I found and a hoodie. I met a freindly freshspawn who was cheking the houses on the other side of the street when a geared player carrying guns showed up. He spotted my freind but not me so I ducked onto a house to avoid his line of sight. As soon as I entered the house I spotted a steak knife on the floor and picked it up. The attacker was using a sniper at about 3 meters and didnt kill my freind yet. So I ran onto the street and started stabbing him, buying my freind time to scramble away. He didnt have time to react and was killed after my third stab. Blood on my hands I watched as his body lay bleeding with his gear laying around him. HE WAS LOADED. 5 guns, a HUGE backback and food enough to last a hurricane. I took what I could before I was caught in the middle of the street and ran to the hill nearby. While sorting quickly through the items my "freind" apeared before the body of our attacker. He picked up a gun i left there, and shot me 3 times.

I hate humans.

This game is fan ♥♥♥♥ing tastic for people like me, a person who loves these kinds of games but don't have the money to get H1Z1 and DayZ. This game has some real potential and honestly for what its worth the graphics are pretty good I admit it's a lot like roblox graphics but I have put lots of hours into this game and its damn right enjoyable. The work being put in is more than just graphic work which I enjoy these days games are focused more on graphics than actual gameplay but this F2P is different because MICROTRANSACTIONS ARE NOT NEEDED TO HAVE FUN. For once I find a fun as ♥♥♥♥ f2p with out p2w and I am honestly really h4ppy about (see what I did there?) anyways all and all this game is great espiecally with friends I recommend its definitely my favorite f2p so far

It's not the graphics, it's the gameplay! It's everything I could ever want from a zombie survival game. You actually have to work to survive. Glad I'm part of this ever evolving game. Keep at it!
