MV Generator Parts Support Delayed :(

Hello everyone,

I am writing this announcement to inform you that MV generator parts release date in GCH will unfortunately be delayed until Summer 2016.

I worked for several weeks on this pack. Alas the overall result wasn't satisfying as these generator parts couldn't fit in GCH properly. This is due to the complexity of MV items: they are made of several spritesheets and GCH has difficulties synchronizing them, and each item is quite large which slows GCH down. Hence I am not comfortable with releasing the pack as it is for I want it to provide you with the best experience possible :)

However, a new release of GCH is planned, which will bring new features along with an improved support for more complex items like MV's :) MV generator parts will be shipped with the new release of GCH. Hence they are only delayed until the new version is out.

I'll keep you updated with the next release :)

Have a nice day!

Game Character Hub 2.6 With New Free Item Pack For Christmas?

Hey everybody :)

The whole team would like to wish you a happy Christmas!

We are pleased to announce that we have not come up to Christmas empty-handed but with a new free update of Game Character Hub along with a new free item pack! In addition you will be able to join the Game Character Hub community with a unique discount during the winter sales!

This update brings the following changes:

  • [Item pack] Enjoy the Looseleaf item set with more than 300 new items. The new item pack comes bundled with the free update and gets installed automatically when GCH launches. It is released under the same license as RPG Maker XP's resources.
  • [Feature] Improved drawing tools: the shapes/lines you can draw now have handles. You may grab a handle with the mouse and move it to modify the shape you drew.
  • [Feature] Revamped gradient tool. Gradients are much more intuitive to use.
  • [Feature] New option in the File menu to open a new file and add it directly to the current character.
  • [Improvement] Improved character generator editor window. The window now gives more directions on how to edit the generators.
  • [Improvement] Character generators now operate about twice faster.
  • [Improvement] Small improvements on the tutorial. A new chapter has been added.
  • [Improvement] Improved French text in the user interface.
  • [Bug fix] The noise tool is now more predictable. A new noise is not regenerated every time we undo/redo the noise command, making it more reliable to use.
  • [Bug fix] Sometimes layers were generated with a wrong color by character generators.
  • [Bug fix] A right click on the color palette now selects the secondary color.

RPG Maker MV will be supported in the coming weeks. The update should be released in the next 24 hours.

We hope you will enjoy it! And once again we wish you a merry Christmas!

PS: If you are curious about the results of the last survey, don't hesitate to check out the previous post.

About This Software

Game Character Hub is the ultimate program for creating and editing 2D game assets. It provides a built-in generator for character and tileset creation. While the program was made to be compatible with RPG Maker XP, VX and VX Ace, the elements found in the program should work with other 2D game engines as well. RPG Maker assets are for RPG Maker use only.

Key Features

With Game Character Hub, you can easily create characters by choosing generator parts provided in the program. Simply select a template, add items and you're done! You can also create your own custom templates and parts. Note that almost the same logic applies to tilesets, so it doesn't necessarily need to be characters!

With Game Character Hub's flexible layering, you can easily customize parts according to your needs; such as changing the opacity, renaming, merging and deleting parts to name a few.

Game Character Hub's Preview window lets you see whats going on without having to stop what you're doing! You can pause the animation and change different settings such as the animation speed, background color and even zoom! You can also set custom animation previews with the Animation Management feature. Useful if you want to see if your Autotiles or Behaviour poses seamlessly transition to one another!

With Game Character Hub's palette editor, it's easier for you to create your own palettes and change values. What's more is that you can generate palette colors from all visible layers or specific ones. Great for finding the colors you need!

Tired of manually merging tile sheets on your own? Game Character Hub has a built in tileset merger to save you the work!

Game Character Hub allows you to easily convert your character assets for different RPG Maker engines.

Other Features Include...

  • Flexible GUI Layout - Change the layout of the program to your liking!
  • Expansive History Window - Easily undo and redo artwork at any point in time during development.

System Requirements

    • OS: Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10 (32 bit or 64 bit)
    • Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 2.0 GHz equivalent or faster processor
    • Memory: 256 MB RAM
    • Graphics: 1024x768 or better video resolution in High Color mode
    • Storage: 250 MB available space
    • Sound Card: DirectSound-compatible sound card

It's usefull, especially for those who have experience with more professional art software, this can keep you focused on the small pixely nature of a sprite versus the more artistic flowing freedom of a bust graphic, or face graphic. Kind of kerjiggering an MV base into it to work on some MV stuff, but this is definately a helping hand with keeping things together.

WARNING: The biggest resource this has, is its own tools and layout systems. Do not buy if your expecting to use this primarily as a generator usng the included parts, you will be dissapointed, But please do take some time to look at them for inspiration, they can help with your designs, especially if your new to spriting.

This software has really helped me with making tons of characters for my games! Without it, generating custom sprites was a long and tedious process. Now though, especially thanks to the "Generate a large amount of characters" option, I can populate my games with tons of custom characters! You should get GCH so that you can minimize your need for RTP sprites in RPG Maker, and if you are using non-RM resources, other game engines.

Confusing and misleading licensing terms. While you're free to use the creator itself for any purpose, the item template pack is licensed for use with RPG Maker only. Since there is no free asset pack, it's basically useless for other purposes.

While Second Story does exist, it has its own share of issues. It has little content and its own license prohibits sharing and includes an odd encryption clause.

If you want to make this useful, give us an asset pack based on Liberated Pixel Cup.

I really like this program, and with the Autumn sale it's really cheap. It's great for resizing my sheets (I converted my project from Ace to MV and when resizing the images Gimp would generate some semitransparent pixels outside of the borders of each sprite, having to fix the adyacent ones manually). However, I would really like the possibility of adapting any type of sprite sheet (like the ones on to RPG Maker's format by selecting each individual sprite and dragging it out to its box, being alligned automatically. Really recommend it while it's on sale.

I personally use this only as a way to see how my characters line up in game. The live preview animation is perfect and I could never get it so smooth that quickly. I have used this a million times for different projects, it's been great for lining them all up for walk cycles etc!
