This is a review for both Metro 2033, and Metro: Last Light. The two games are so similer that I see no need to make a review for both.

Anyway, this is easily one of, if not THE best game I have ever played. Everything about it is just amazing.

The monsters are both powerful and terrifying, and no matter how many times I play, I never get bored of fighting them. Every fight is different.

The gunplay feels amazing. Even the weakest weapons you start with feel very powerful and fun to use. Every kill is satisfying.

The stealth mechanic is, again, one of the best I've seen in a game. The AI is quite smart. For instance, if you walk over broken glass, or bump a can, they will hear you and start searching for you. You will also have to shoot out lights occasionally to sneak past some areas.

And the graphics... Holy crap does this game look amazing. I'd say it's on par with Crysis 3. You can clearly see just how much work they put into the graphics and style of this game. Everything is detailed to the max.

As for the difficulty, hardest game I've ever played. Which is a good thing. On the hardest difficulty, (Ranger Hardcore) almost everything will one shot you, and resources are scarce. You really have to pay attention if you want to survive.

There's plenty of easier difficulty options available, of course. But the only real way to play this game is on Ranger Hardcore. It just feels right for a game like this.

And that's all I have to say. For only $24.99, (or $49.99 for both games) it's definitely worth it. Both games will give you around 30-50 hours of gameplay for your first playthrough.

This is also my first try at making a serious review for a game. I normally don't bother with stuff like this, but this game is just so good that I really wanted to review it.

This is easily one of the best games ever made (In my opinion)
Gonna tell everything step by step so u can understand this bloom and immersive post apocalyptic game.
NOTE That this is the remake of the orginial version with whole new gameplay and grapchics engine, so don't mistake this with the original Metro 2033.
(There might be some spoilers here so a little warning)

+ It's absolutley stunning, i can't describe how much work they putted in the visuals, they are top notch of the best looking i have seen in video game.
+ The lightining and pshyx in this game is gorgues, every light is just incredible.
+ Faces are absolute improvment form previuos (Metro 2033 Original) u can see every expression when they talk angry face becomes angry, when they'r happy they face becomes happy its perfect.
+ If u look closely u can see visuals everywhere absolutley everywhere if playing on max, even in little things witch is a BIG PLUS.
+ The game is perfectly optimized so that low end pc's can easly run this on low with atleast 50fps witch is a BIG PLUS also.

+ Best improvments from old game (Metro 2033 Original) The weapons now feel powerfull handmade, u can finnaly feel like ur hitting and enemy.
+ Monsters feels like real monsters, they don't attack on site they howl to call they'r brothers, and at some places it's really hard to fight them!
+ The mask physicx is perfect, u get into water, water splashes on ur mask, u hit enemy near u the blood splahes on ur mask, even when u fell somewhere the dirt fells on ur mask, even flies sometimes gets on it witch make's it an immresive fighting and experencie (u can wipe off all that ♥♥♥♥ by pressing G)
+ Love how at some levels u can explore even if its fps survival shooter, u still get chance to walk around find something intresting.

Weapons (Arsenal):

+ Every weapon looks like it's handcrated because thats how it would be in nuclear war, (execpt for kalash and shotgun)
+ Loved how they added custimization for weapons from Metro Last Light

+ Spartan difficulty is defently for normal players who likes to complete the game in the fast way, witch i loved becasue its perfect for the first playthgrouh
+ Survival mode is absolutley perfect, ammo is hard to find enemies are way tougher and wont die from one bullet
+ If u put in on rager hardcore, the game is insane, u'l get angry at a LOT of places, ammo is insanly hard to find so every bullet counts, that makes u think more about sutiation and walk past or stealth it not go gunz blazing, enemies are way thougher and smarter.

(A lot of people praise this game for it's atmosphere so i guess you know about it but i still will talk about it)

+ This is the game superior part, the game absolutley nails nuclear war atmosphere, this is in my opinion the only game that really looked like after nuclear bomb, even better than S.T.A.L.K.E.R, realistic destroyed building, distance buildings witch u even can see detail in the distance!
+ Metro tunnels are perfect, loads of cob webs, squeky sounds, spooky and really spooky atmosphere of it.
+ Even when u go to cities u feel depressed of how sad this is, people crying, humans sick, it really feels like a nuclear situation (Though at some palces still people laugh a bit drinking and stuff like that witch its nice how people still can carry on and have fun even in the baddest situations)

Main Charecter (Artoym):

+ I like the charecter in my opion, brave strong, patient and doesn't lose hope in everything.
- Didin't like how he can only talk in loading screens, but he doesn't talk in game, witch makes some akward conversations.
- He's doesn't really sound like russian, and apart that all of the people (NPCS) in game doesn't really sound russian. (Reccomended playing this in Russian of course if u understand it)

+ For me story is good, nuclear war, finding D6, senind message to certain charecters. Its not that perfect but its playable and u get deep into it really fast. Loved how u can save the dark ones from getting visions, u can activate alternete "good ending" by interacting with certain things in game (u'l find loads of videos in youtube)

Thats all i can say about this game, as i said its my favorite game off all times.
It Had a lot of pluses, and only 2 minuses.
So i easily reccomend this game to player's who love survival story driven games.

"H.G. Wells once wrote, "If we don't end wars, wars will end us." - Artoym
And the future--our future--stretches before us like an endless Metro tunnel.

Let me start off this review with a warning. The game has crashed on me over 20 times during my play-through, changing everything to the lowest settings changed nothing and some even unluckier people cant get the game to start. Buyer beware.

Metro 2033 Redux is a remade version of Metro 2033 that features Last Light's new engine and it's mechanics like wiping blood off of your helmet and it's stealth system. I have played very little of the original Metro 2033 so I can not compare the two aside from the graphics being much improved. It is based off a novel also called Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky. The game really benefits from the good story and perfectly captures how desperate the situation is for the human race.

The game immediately starts you off in a huge battle before you get a chance to learn the control scheme and this battle will kill you if you don't attempt to defend yourself. After this sequence you are teleported back in time to Metro station where you grew up making that whole intro feel like an unnecessary way to grab your attention. This is where the game really kicks off showing the harsh conditions of a crudely made shanty town in the metro which is constantly attacked by mutants. Future events lead you out of your home and into the doomed world that the aftermath of a nuclear explosion created.

The controls are nice and fluid. There are alt firing modes so be careful since you can not aim with a shotgun and may end up firing all your valuable shells you have loaded by accident. Your sub weapons like knives for silent take downs and grenades are tied to a single button which really bugged me since the number keys are mostly all free. Other than that they work very well and will likely be your fault when you get mauled or shot.

The gameplay is standard FPS with a strange combination of recharging health and medkits. When you take too mush damage it will take a ton of time to get better if you don't use a medkit but for minor wounds recharges rapidly. Guns have a nice feel to them and control like you'd expect them to. The stealth is rather fun, as long as you are in the dark you should be hidden from sight and can pick off enemies if you have a silencer or with throwing knives, you can even avoid them completely if you are skilled enough. You have night vision goggles, incendiary grenades to block access toward a location and more weapons are found very late in game to keep things varied.

The sounds are excellent for the most part. They really add a lot to the atmosphere with random banter between soldiers, bandits or simple stalkers that make them feel like unfortunate human beings instead of pointlessly evil clones. The creaking of the deteriorated buildings, the growls and screeches of the mutants and the sound of you breathing really absorb you into the experience. Unfortunately the fake Russian accents are pretty bad but even worse are the actors for the children. They are awful to the point of turning a really emotional scene into a joke. Another negative with the voice department is that we have a silent protagonist which actually talks during the loading screens to recap the situation. It baffles me as to why they decided that was a good idea as when your hardened comrades worry about you or express how they are afraid you stay silent and it feels very unnatural how they respond after that as if you said something.

As far as I can tell they absolutely nailed everything in the graphics department. The creatures look and move very fiercely and do look like something you'd find underground. The people look pretty realistic with scars, worn out clothes and battered equipment. Even has some nicely textured animals like pigs, spider and rats. The first time you head above ground you expect it to look horrifying but instead find it to look dead, abandoned, the air above ground to be toxic and requires you to wear a gas mask which leads you to feel a tinge of sadness at what was lost. The new currency of the Metro is machine gun ammunition, the revenants of the Russian army still fighting the Nazis in a now pointless war, the bandits stealing from and murdering the weak, and the regular people desperately searching for ammo to have a chance of defending themselves. The world really feels doomed and plunging even further now that even the air to breathe is a luxury.

It is an amazing game but unfortunately has some serious technical issues for me. Frame rate goes from over 100 to mid 40's seemingly at random. Plenty of crashes and microstutter even on the lowest of settings and PhysX turned off. It makes for unnecessary tension of quickly reaching the next checkpoint and not being able to enjoy the view and fight scenes without the threat of it crashing at any moment. But even through all that I finished the game and am eager to play it's sequel. I give it a recommendation but keep in mind of the problems you may or may not have before purchasing.

If you are a Russian speaker, this game will be better.

This game is like STALKER, but with a more in depth, linear storyline.
In your one zone, the metro, fighting bandits, Communists, Nazis, anomolys, and ♥♥♥♥ing insane things all day.
Scary at times, grabbing on to your Kalash for dear life. Storyline is pretty damn nice.

Not open world at all, but feels open-enviorment. The walls are out to get you, and the ♥♥♥♥♥s are here to rob you.

This got to be the best singleplayer game i've ever played.

It does have alot of difference between the original Metro 2033. Graphical wise and other stuffs.
If you want the best experience of the game you should definately put voice language to Russian and Text language to what you prefer. The achievments are pretty easy compared to the original Metro 2033, but there is some hard achievments on Redux also!

If you want to buy Metro 2033 buy Redux instead of the older version, allthough i think the older version was pretty ok but Redux is just better in almost every way possible. Buy it today, you won't regret it.

This game, guys.
This ♥♥♥♥ing game.

As a man of Russian decent, as a fan of good storytelling and memorable characters, as a fan of games with amazing atmosphere, beautiful locations, awe inspiring musical scores and deep rooted philisophical debates over man's fear of the unknown, the future, and the paranormal, this game is almost perfection. So many times did this game give me chills, good scares, goosebumps, and even make me tear up from time to time that I couldn't even begin to recount them all. This is game that really changes your outlook on things if you understand all that is happening.

Play this game with Russian voiceovers and English subtitles for the full effect of a post apocalyptic Russian Metro, on the Ranger Easy or Hardcore difficultes, while wearing headphones, and playing in the dark. Find the notes hidden in the game to get entries in Artyom (the protagonists') diary to get his thoughts and extra background info on the universe of Metro and to fully understand the world at large here. Scavenge and scrounge through the dark subterranean tunnels and on the murky, nuclear winter grounds of the Surface, and cherish every bullet you find. You'll feel like a survivor in the apocalypse, you'll feel like a Ranger, and you'll also uncover a story filled with mystery and intrigue, with heartfelt and some pretty effective moral dillemas along the way. Some subtle things and decisions can mean the difference between destroying an enemy or annihilating a people who only wish to come in peace.

The only negatives I associate with this game are nitpicks, and even then it's only really one which is the sometimes incorrect grammar and spelling both in subtitles and notes. The only other complaint is that your decisions don't hold any weight in the sequel, but that's more of an issue with Last Light than anything. Overall this is an amazing game, and well deserving of a 10/10 from me. I've been playing this since the original dropped in 2009, and I will continue to play it for years to come.

I've played the orginal and lastlight and loved them both.. so far they're in my top 5. When Metro 2033 Redux came out I wasn't sure at first if redux would've be worth my money due to the fact that, 1 its the same game, 2 alot of anger and negative comments on steam and 3 what really has changed in it. I bought it none the less and God am I glad I did, the game is soo much better than the original, Graphics are alot more detailed n beatiful than before, the stealth system is just like Metro Lastlight, Gun modes and more.

9.0/10 in my rate

Cons: I noticed a few bugs.. but its minor details that barely affects the gameplay .. I might add most times you get a laugh out of it.

If you already own the original you will see a huge difference in the redux version!!!

Metro 2033 Redux:
This game is the rerelease of the original game of the same name. (minus the Redux part)

Metro 2033 Redux is built on the latest and most refined version of the 4A Engine, so to run this game you are going to need a pretty decent PC, even with Dual graphics cards and 3.8 GHZ CPU, I could barely keep it (somehow managing to) keep it above 60 FPS at most if not all times. Even with this however, graphical bugs, mainly textures can be evident, but only in a certain part of the game.

However this game really does well in almost every area, with upgrades coming to every aspect of the much loved original. New graphics, New weapons, Refined mechanics, improved AI and two play through modes with 5 difficulty levels, for noobs through to seasoned vets of the franchise. These two new modes are "Spartan" (easier) and "Survival" (Hard) With weapon upgrades being brought over from Last Light, allowing the player to upgrade weapons with attachments and traits.

On top of this, the graphical enhancements of this game are truly something to admire, the difference is truly amazing. making this game a marvel to play and experience both story and graphics wise. This video below from GameSpot shows you this difference [Thank you GameSpot]

4A somehow manage to weave the newer 'Metro Last Light' back into this remake of the original, with little clues and hints along the way on the story. 4A have also refurbed the story telling of this game, making it a lot more enjoyable and easy to understand for the casual gamer. However again the English Voice acting for the supposed 'Russian' Setting is very off, taking the player out of the experience, however this can be stopped by making the voice acting russian and reading subtitles.

AI enhancements are also very well done, making the npcs actually fun to battle against, whether you prefer stealth or the all out combat style. However, sometimes bugs and other things are found along the way, such as ignorant npcs that wont react to you and npc body mesh problems, but these are easily over looked as they are rare.

The story telling of this game has also been redone as mentioned earlier, with some parts of the original game being left out, such as a small boss fight towards the end (no spoiler dont worry) and some other small parts have actually been added, such as a new spider infested tunnel.

All in all this game really is worth buying for the first time, or rebuying as a veteran, as it truly does have a lot to offer the player, new or old to the franchise.

-Great remake of an original classic
-Heaps of new features
-AI overhaul
-Weapon Overhaul
-Great immersion with new modes.

-Rare bugs
-Some graphical bugs.

I would give Metro 2033: Redux a 9/10
The only reason this is not a ten, is for the few immersion bugs that have to be sorted out right away.

A dark, post apocalyptic, shooter. Rich in storytelling and atmosphere. Many tense moments seeking around watching my ammo consumption and time I spent in the Moscow wastes just added to the tension. Graphically suburb and add to the gritty immersion focus of this game. My only minor criticism is, how linear the game feels and how you nearly always feel on a very set path or in a limited world. Over all a fantastic experience and a strong game.

Too long, dident read: Not being a fan of this game its truly is amazing and despite the atmosphere braking events and crashing the story is top notch and gunplay is worth it. 9/10. Looking forward to the next in the series.

So I dident touch metro 2033 or last light till the redux as i was never really intrested in it. MY GOD am I both disappointed in not picking it up sooner but also happy due to the redux package. Right out the gate this game does not tell you anything. Which in any game would ♥♥♥♥ me off but with this it makes you more paranoid and colstophobic which adds to the atmosphere which ill mention later. Gameplay is solid with each weapon giving a good punch not to mention a lot of customization which could be developed a bit more but is still quality never the less and offers different playstyles. Playstyles are totally different depending on the enemy type. Humans its best to stealth and you are encouraged to conserve ammo which you need on the mutants which offer a more survival shooting experience. The AI are clever however they have poor detection when it comes to shadows. What i mean by this is that when in shadows even infront of them they cant see. Other then that the monsters try to track you down and humans use cover.

Now onto the atmosphere. Its amazing. If thats in colstophic tunnels. the deserted citys on land, the everyday civilians talking about daily tasks, each different district the world is alive and beliveable. You also interact with almost everything in first person and has animations to again enforce it. I also loved finding artyoms books just to learn more about the world and its the only game where i seeked them out. However their are no first person animations for ladders and lights which is random due to the fact it rivals in the fact everything else has a animation. Also artyom, the main character does not speak which destroys atmosphere completly. They are talking to you about a heart breaking moment and you are just silent. Its really annoying yet he talks in loading screens and what he says does build up tension so its random and an odd decsion. Its very linear but does offer paths to gain loot but just needed some more paths and options in combat. Now the performance and graphics, jaw dropping for the specs i have. BUT IT CRASHED LIKE A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FOR NO REASON. Its a problem for everyone and i have somewhat a fix for it: Whenever it starts crashing chapter select the mission it crashes on and that should help, yeah it sucks having to start but chapters are short and also lots of them. Also what helps is turning off nvidia particles.

The developers of this game are well educated and experienced, so why in God's name would they downgrade their game? For a larger audience? To make more money and acclaim? Well, I want my money back. I want the original version of the game, don't want this nonsense. I was advertised the original version, the redux version reminded me of those advertisments, and I purchased the stupid game.

The lighting looks really, really bad. There's no actual raytracing going on so I don't understand the idea that the lighting is better because the calculations are closer to an approximation of reality; it looks fake for the setting, whereas the contrived yellow light looked completely believable. I'm supposed to believe that fluorescent lights just break when they're turned on twenty years in the future, but all the incandescent lights emit fluorescent visible radiation?

The controls are half-♥♥♥♥♥. In the "Ranger" modes, advertised and promoted as the truer experience for the game, you are not aware of what secondary thrown weapons you are selecting. A button press and mouse swipe in one of four cartographical directions is all you get, with no on-screen or prominent aural indicators. This is unbelievably stupid.

The dialogue is not accurately or completely subtitled, so there is no complete cinematic experience available via separate dialogue and subtitle tracks. It has also been completely re-recorded. I truthfully cannot attest to which is better, however the children's voice (lone actor with no variations) sounds completely grotesque and demon-like.

The new character models appear to be lower polygon than the original models, regardless of actual count. They do not look healthy or unhealthy, they look completely uncanny. It is unsettling to look at the other characters in the game for all of the wrong reasons.

Just a really gross example of reiteration for excessive capitalism. The original was one of the first games to utilize the feature set of... the still current version of DirectX. There was no need to redo it. I would have been a fairly happy customer if I didn't know about this version and purchased the original one for 1/6 the cost (as of the current sale prices). I now have nothing but distrust for 4A Games and Deep Silver publishing.
