Kotaku

“A surprising and fresh revival of Portal 2’s familiar puzzle elements.”

“It looks great, it plays well, and it lasts 2-3 hours, giving it good value for money.”

Like Portal? Like Splatoon? Then you'll love this game. The puzzles are challenging in a good way. It may be short, but the fan made levels add a lot of playability.

Fun, if rather, short. The use of the paint gun was a nice diversion from the use of portals and kept me hooked throughout the game.

Well that was... Anti-climatic. Great premise, horrible execution and riddled with bugs. The script-writing left a lot to be desired, with jokes that fell flat and no real story. The soundtrack was decent, but the game pushes you to stand right in front of the speakers and after I'd had my ears blown out four or five times, I got annoyed and just turned it off.

-Short version: Buy this game. Now.

-Long version: This game is supposed to be a community-made Portal 2 mod, which did not ring high expectations in me, but I loved Portal 2 so I jsut had to buy it. This game (or mod) is suprisingly good. The levels are well done (for casual players of course, if you are a professional strafe jumper, then you will have an easy time). The puzzles are creative, the commentary is very Portal-ish and the fact that you use a "Paint-Gun" to shoot the speed gel and the bounce gel for yourself instead of using a Portal-Gun is so damn good. It gives you so much more possible solutions to some levels...
Seriously, I enjoyed even the harder levels because I had so much solutions in mind and if one didn't work out I just tried the next one. I could keep talking about this game for hours, but it's time to end my review.

I can only recommend this game, because it's so damn good and it brings back those Portal / Portal 2 feelings. 10/10 for me.

PS.: but sssshh... it was 99 cents. (seriously the game costs only 99 cents if you buy it before the 5th of July)

This mod requires ownership of Portal 2. This review also assumes you already own and have completed Portal 2, my review of which can be read here.

Mod: Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative
For the game: Portal 2
Developer and publisher: Aperture Tag Team
Released: 16 July, 2014
Genre: First-Person Puzzler with Comedy
Setting: "At least 50,000 years" after Portal 1, Aperture Science Enrichment Center, Upper Michigan, U.S.A., Earth
Canon status: Non-canon
Spoiler-free plot summary: Between the events of the Mobility Gel and Art Therapy courses in Portal 2's co-op campaign, GLaDOS begins testing with her new backlog of human test subjects. You play as one of the unnamed female test subjects, guided by the Personality Core called Nigel, in a series of new tests dedicated to Mobility Gel research.

Full review: Aperture Tag is a mod for Portal 2 equal in length and difficulty to Portal 1 (my review of which can be read here). This mod is probably the most fun mod of Portal 2's I've ever played. Unfortunately, however, I found that the test chambers were too easy and the story was too lackluster to warrant a second playthrough.

Like other Portal mods, Aperture Tag's main game mechanic (or gimmick, if you prefer) is based on expanding a mechanic seen in the original game. In this case, it's using a gun that shoots either blue or orange mobility gels. Only a small handful of test chambers make use of portals.

Carried over from Portal 2 is Steam Workshop support, which is also set in Portal 2's multiverse storyline.

A short, simple review for a short, simple mod. Do I recommend buying Aperture Tag? Well, here's where things get tricky...

Being a third-party mod for a game, and being based off a different development team's ideas, Aperture Tag has only a few original ideas. Because of this, personally, I don't think this mod should have to be purchased in order to play it. Instead, an optional donation system should be set up, either on Aperture Tag's Steam store page or in the mod itself. I do recommend playing Aperture Tag, but only if you can get it for free some way. But if you're desperate for something set in the Portal universe, then I suppose it'd be okay to spend a dollar or two on it, but not NZD$5.99, so wait for when this mod is on sale.

This is insanely amazing and a must play mod for any portal fan.

Interesting, challenging and innovative puzzles — check.
Fulfilling references to the original — a very good check.
Music — o my gawd, a huge check!
Some extra secrects and fun stuff — check indeed!

I'm lost at what to say more. This is amazing.

Pros:
Later in the game, it isn't frusterating. The puzzles are fun later on.
Cons:
"If you stop even for a second, you are a dead test subject. Go!"
Good thing I got this on sale. Portal Stories: Mel is a lot more challenging, playable, and it has better level design, aesthetics, and story, and that's FREE. This is an embarrassment to be $5.
As I play through this game, I realize that the first part of the game is really annoying.
Conclusion:
Get this on sale if you want a try.

Well hey, would you look at that: it finally made it into Steam. I gotta say: congrats to the team for doing such a fine job on this title.
Now, first thing that you have to know: this is a fairly short game. About 4 hours, if you're a logic-driven mind like me. May be longer for the rest of you. Not everyone plays Portal 2 on a regular basis. But short time length aside, let me tell you that this is possibly the best mod for Portal 2 I have ever seen, and I've seen quite a few Portal 2 mods in my time playing this game. Aperture Tag has a well-developed plot, puzzles that will make both your brain and your heart explode (the latter from excessive pounding), and voice acting on a level one's hard-pressed to find from an indie developer. I'm not even going to dissect this like I do others because it is downright amazing. The soundtrack, the modeling, the voice acting; you can tell that some real heart went into this game.
And I'll let you in on a little secret: don't take the environment for granted. Nothing is a facade in Tag; if there's an open area, you can get to it. There are plentiful amounts of easter eggs for the explorers.
All in all, this game is definitely worth the money. Hell, I got this when it was free and I would have donated to the developers (had I any money at all, but that's another story). That's how good this game is.
And it gets better: there is the Infinite Testing Initiative, just like in Portal 2. Workshop creators around the world are releasing new and mind-boggling maps for you to explore with the power of paint. This game never truly ends, just like Portal 2.
I am in love with Portal and its sequel, and I'd be happy with calling this Portal 3.

As a huge fan of the portal series, I really enjoyed this game. This has to be one of my favorite portal 2 mods next to Portal Stories: Mel. At the start, the gameplay is a bit slow, but if you're a long time portal fan you can power through most of these tests with ease. The parts later on where you have to race against the clock is extremely fun, and from there on gets even better. Towards the end tests become very hard.

Loved the story, fit in well. Won't say how I know (as possible spoiler) but for those who want to know ***MINOR SPOILER ALERT*** It is set between portal 1 and 2.

I got this on sale for $0.99 and it was great value, but would pay $4.99 easily. Took me about four hours. Also, make sure you find the secret ending. One of the best parts of the game. (may require googling as not easily found).

***While it is non-canon, it could quite easily fit in the storyline
