Over dit spel

Thanks to Young Horses, Slick Ent Inc, and Team Meat for allowing us to do these amazing crossover exclusives for our Steam launch.

What is Bardbarian?
Bardbarian is a game! A game we've been lovingly working on for far too long and are ready to unleash on Steam with (hopefully) some love from the Greenlight Community.

What genre is the game?
It is a mixture of Tower Defense, RPG & RTS with some 'Shmup and Snake elements.

What's the Story?
You play as Brad the barbarian, who is awoken to the sounds of his town under siege. Today is different though; Brad has grown tired of fighting all the time. The usual grind for XP has grown dull, and he has decided to pursue his dreams of making music instead of shedding blood. Fashioning a lute out of an old axe, he steps out to save his town in the most bizarre of ways.

What's Gameplay like?
Move Brad around the battlefield and dodge incoming enemy attacks and projectiles. Brad is constantly playing his axe-lute and generating notes, standing still will cause him to "jam" and generate notes even faster. These notes act as your in-game resource; you can spend them to perform solos to summon units to follow and fight for you, as well as solos to boost their performance.

Navigate your party through the hordes of enemies, dodging and attacking, preventing them from destroying your town's prized decorative crystal. Survive waves to progress, collect loot, and unlock new units. Upon death you are able to visit the town shop in order to upgrade Brad, the town and your followers, in hopes to make it further next time.

You are a barbarian that is tired of pillaging and wants to be a bard instead.
So, Bardbarian. The entire backstory is there in the title.

Unfortunately this new devotion to music and abhorrence of inflicting violence could not be timed worse, since an invasion force of monsters is approaching the quiet town you live in.
Why? Nobody knows. There is no plot beyond the setting.

This leaves the town in a pickle though, without the barbarian they will need another way to protect their town.
Despite no longer fighting directly the Bardbarian has decided to help. The local adventurers' guild has plenty of warriors around and all they need to join the defence is some encouragement. Musical encouragement.

So the Bardbarian runs around the battlefield, playing (monotonous but fun) music to gather a resource called Notes. These notes can be spent to recruit warriors from the adventurers' guild who will start following you around the battlefield, attacking any enemies that come close.

This turns the game into a defence game, you navigate your group of adventurers around the battlefield to keep the monsters away from the town square where a magical crystal does... something important, apparently. Wave after wave, until you get a boss fight and move on to the next segment of the game and do it all over again.

After your almost inevitable failure you spend the gold you earned from the enemies the adventurers have vanquished to upgrade... quite a lot of different things. Upgrade your units, unlock new units, upgrade your own stats, research spells and facilities around the village that make your time just a bit easier.
A weird item that you can buy is the Golden Guitar, which doubles all future Gold income. It's a relic of the time where the game had a cash shop on mobile, but fortunately it can be bought with regular currency in this Steam version. You should do that as soon as possible.

All in all the game gets a bit repetitive as it goes on, and some of the later units are so much stronger than the other ones that you don't really feel like you're customizing so much as levelling that one unit until you get past the level you're stuck on.
However, it's a pretty game with a lot of content and a solid soundtrack.
Recommended if you're looking for a fun defence game.

Decent tower defense. Feels a little too much like a mobile game for my true liking.

5/10 tis cute

This game is like a action rts.
Your main character does not attack but can summon or rally his troops.
He has a little racoon pet that can be upgraded to fetch things like gold or items from the town folk.
You pick 3 out of up to 15 classes to take into battle to summon them and help you fight.
Bard will slowly gain notes over time or they can be dropped from enemies.
These are used to call in a unit or to use 1 of the 3 buff that will increase your party's attack, defense, or speed.
The villagers and fort can also be upgraded so they give you items and add defenders to your fort.
In the main story you play through 4 sets of 5 levels with the 5th always being a boss (there is also a days 2).
In Survival enemies and friendly units will randomly spawn on the board and you try to see how long you can stay alive without any bard powers.
In escape mode you have no bard powers and try to see how far you can get wile avoiding poison pools, enemies, & there shots.

Overall its not a bad take on rts games and the units do vary and will change your play style depending on who you bring.

Interesting, unique concept,
good visuals,
bad menus,
looked like a little bit slow progression (played just the start - had to start grinding a bit for gold),
very casual game. Feels like mobile.

I can not recomment it for everyone (not sure if I shoud hit the thumbs up or down).
Only for those that look for a very casual game with rogue-like progression (die, then spend your gold for upgrades for the next life).
