What the developers have to say:

“Greetings, hunters!

The Stomping Land game is currently under development.
  • It has had a year of progress and will continue to undergo production with frequent updates until the end of 2015.
  • The sole purpose of its current release is to have enthusiasts of survival and dinosaur games provide their first-hand insight and feedback while the game is early in development.
  • If you wish to jump into a more finalized gameplay experience, it is recommended to not purchase the game until release, as all features require balancing, bugfixing, and updates for smoother implementation.
  • The price of the game is a one time purchase, and will not increase for release, so you may choose to wait if you prefer a more complete experience from the start.
  • The purpose of the full price for Early Access is to filter in survival and dinosaur enthusiasts who embrace the development process. So if you are unsure, there is no disadvantage in waiting.

Here are the major gameplay features currently implemented:
  • 6 Dinosaurs: Styracosaurus, Carnotaurus, Gallimimus, Parahelicoprion, Ankylosaurus, Stygimoloch
  • Free-roam island with lakes/rivers/caves/forests and a surrounding beach/ocean
  • Persistent Day/Night cycle with random rain+fog
  • PVP weapon combat including roping prisoners
  • Resource collection
  • Crafting system includes campsite items(teepee/firpit etc). Craftable weapons include a bow and arrow, spear, and bolas
  • Swimming + Fish + Spearfishing
  • Tamable/Mountable dinosaurs
  • Random dinosaur stampedes
  • Tribe establishment with isolated chat
  • Offline play (same game, solo)
  • Dedicated servers hosted by players
  • Persistent character data per server

Updates
  • There will be a total of 15 dinosaurs implemented by release, as well as many more craftable items/weapons
  • Dinosaur AI is the only major feature very early in development, intended to be improved per dinosaur all the way until release.
  • The incentive to playing our Early Access game is to be able to voice a first-hand opinion for what your ideal dinosaur survival game would be, while it is still in development. So features are being presented and discussed with the playerbase on the forums.

If you would like to visit our community and see how everyone's discussions have helped shape the progress of the game, you can visit our forums at www.thestompingland.com/forum.

About This Game

The Stomping Land is a multiplayer survival game about living in a world with dinosaurs. Form tribes, setup camp, and hunt down Earth's historic beasts with the goal of becoming the dominant tribe on the island.

You are a hunter and a scavenger. You survive in a world with dinosaurs, and if any one of them catch you, they will end you in an instant. In fact, you can't kill most dinosaurs with ease, and the ones that you can don't provide plentiful amounts of food. It's the large ones that matter. The ones with bone crushing jaws and skull smashing tails that roam the island and fight each other, who provide the food you want. It's up to you to find methods of surviving for as long as possible, so you can tame these creatures to protect you from the relentless threatening engagements.

The Stomping Land game is currently under development, and we recommend to read the developer commentary above to get a solid insight on what to expect with your purchase.

Avoid for now. Do yourself some research on what happened with the game if youre interested, kinna funny. The game seems to be in good hands right now, but theres only 1 developer working on the game so its very slow. I get it, it has dinos, well a few anyways, but there are other dino vs humans games out there and also some survival themed.

I like it, but its really Alpha, dont expect to much of it. I played it some hours, some days, but after you know the map and the caves and riding all dinos its boring. I would still love a much bigger map than this one. I like the graphics, the gameplay, but its just to less.

The Stomping Land
Well I bought it few days after it came on steam and while it downloaded I looked at other review`s and many is bad after what ive seen but from my point of view it isn`t. GUYS ITS NOT FREAKING DONE YET! so it has few bugs and that but its actually a good game, not every survival game needs to have zombies, aliens, cannibal mutants or other nasty creatures that is going to kill you and eat you that are SUPERNATURAL! I have actually waited for a game like this because I`m getting tired of all those supernatural survival games .-. but this review is for this game and not that so. I saw few days ago that this can no longer be purchased on steam and thats sad because some friends of mine wants it so i hope they can buy it another place or whatever ( if you know a place say it please xD)
But I don`t see the meaning with all those bad reviews, while the game is still not done! like seriously guys I don`t see the point its still not done and I think this game is going to be superfabulousawesomefantastic when its done! like hello! dinosaurs! and survival! where you don`t have to follow a freaking storyline like in Jurassic Park!(I`m not saying that JP is a bad game it was just a example) so this game gets 10/10 from me!

So now the game is back on Steam after a good while of waiting. Complications arose because of "moving" locations and trying to convert it to UE4 which hasn't been done (yet). A few updates were released but nothing worth really noting except a working inventory with more items to collect, one new dino, and stampedes. All of it took waaaay longer than it should have to roll out. As it is, the game is fun for a while. It's stable enough to enjoy for a few hours and maybe days. That is until you die and ragequit because you just lost all your items. Or someone with a super speed hack completely ruins the experience.

When you go to the Stomping Land website, you see a lot of features that are advertised for this game. At least 1/3 of it isn't in it yet. So don't expect customization, tracking, and the large bird. The special arrows are only usable by (invisible) traps. When I say invisible I mean it doesn't have a model yet but you can still build it. Which easily leads to player suicides by accident.

The updates aren't exactly on fast-track and deadlines are always unpredictable. You see a post saying the next one might be rolled out on ___day then everyone is picking their nose wondering what happened a few days later. Then in a period of say, over three weeks we get a few unnoticeable small changes to the game. You start playing again for a while then realize it wasn't even worth launching the game. Communication between developer is better than it was during that long wait period of nothingness. But it almost seems like just the main dev is the only one typing up the code while another guy works on the dinosaur designs. Even for some of the most patient people, the wait for real changes can be gruelling. You can almost always expect a delay for when a update is supposed to be released.

The best way to explain the state of this game is like purgatory. The game is okay as is but it's not getting much better or worse. Updates feel like forever ago because little to nothing gets changed in such a long period of time. However they are planning the next three months to have a set theme so this past October was all about optimization. This November I believe is for longterm gameplay features. So I'll update this review as things get changed.

For now, save your money if this reaches the next stage in development (Beta, v1.0). Because although this has a lot of potential, it has a loooong road ahead of it if it keeps going at its current pace. The current price tag is too much for what it offers anyways.

Well I bought this game on the first day it came out. (I'm a dinosaur addict person) Is a really nice idea, is a LOT of promise. I spent so many hours (almost 400) playing , trying to survive, master the lonley lifestyle, the mount battles and I really enjoyed it. But this game really needs our support now to overwrite the bad reviews caused by the lack of the updates for almost 4 mounths. The developers know they made a mistake. In fact that's the only reason of the bad reviews but recently we got great updates, and they are still comming. (Be aware that the updates may contain experimental contents sometimes which can be changed anytime if is not working in the game as good as the community or the developers imagined)....Jig (Developer Leader) is in a difficult situation now that he is working on UE4 version of the game in order to release it on this year, while he has to update the recent UE version as well which is really time consuming.
If you liked what you saw in prototype videos, I think you will be in love with the new UE4 version of the game.
I recommend this game to those who really love dinosaurs like myself. The rest of you who only like the idea of the game wait a few months. The developers will improve the Dinosaur AI and the gameplay mechanism is going to be balanced and fixed this year. So if you want a nice fluent gameplay, wait to the end of this year.
Guys, you agree with me or not but I RECOMMEND THIS GAME. Totally worth the money to me.

This is the first review I will probably ever post on steam, because I bought this game day one, and no, they didnt communicate with us much, but that is because they lost their whole team, and there is only one person working on this game. People keep saying there have been no updates but there have been 3 updates, just not anything recognized by steam. There are now more Dinosaurs, depending on the amount of people in the server, and also there are trapping systems implemented, which is a huge, main part of a game such as this. Word on the street is they are switching to the Unreal Engine 4, which will take a game like this leaps and bounds. This game is by far worth the money paid for it, and is not a money grab like people keep saying it is. All I have to say about that is I'd like to see any of those one people make a game like this happen by themselves in a matter of a few months. It just wouldn't happen. Also there should be a big update coming around the end of November-Early December. Finally if you dont like the fact that STEAM isnt posting anything about this game on their site, then check out the forums on the Stomping Lands website, and many of your questions/quarrels should be alleviated.

Although it did take them a while to update this game, and even I wasn't sure if they abandoned it or not, I still really enjoyed this game. I liked the whole idea of being a troglodyte and surviving the dinosaur world. The visuals are well done for a game still in alpha, not including the close pop in range for small plants and grass however. I liked the dependency of the fact you really needed other people to explore caves with you, the water immediately making you its enemy by destroying your torches.
I give this game a 7/10 for now, hoping everything becomes fixed and the updates grow closer together.

After following this game since it began, and watching the all the bad things that happened, I decided to buy it. Don't let all the bad reviews sway your opinion, a lot of players were let down when the dev's disapeared and I don't blame them, but, This game NOW has been updated, and shows a lot of promise, if the updates continue, it will be one of the best games out there, it's a really good game, its alpha, but a really good game, Im glad I bought it.

This game ain't as bad as people think it is, give it a go, its actually quite fun, there is one producer/worker on this game at the moment so the production is quite slow , but other than that a fun game to troll you friends , still very alpha like so please ACCEPT BUGS. Almost every early access that are trying to get big will have bugs in them, even minecraft and team fortress 2 get bugs.

Anyway what im saying is
8/10 would dino again

the only thing that went wrong was the whole complication between the dev and steam because things where slowed down because he was trying to get it on a new engine... he hasn't got a full dev team so things like this TAKE TIME. anyway its worth the money i paid, havnt played it too much yet but still got alot of fun off it allready , thanks for readying and have fun riding dino's and collecting wood :D

Its a pretty good game. I enjoy it. I enjoy the rush of being chased by a T-rex, and hurrying to scurry through some bushes to get away from him.
Problems:
The dead dinosaur corpses glitch out on some occasions.
Wikki-Ups hover sometimes.
When a T-rex chases another dinosaur, if that other dino is agressive, they both try to kill each other, but all they really do is walk in circles trying to chase each other. Eventually one of them dies, and its sometimes funny to watch when theirs more then 3, but other then that its buggy.
Good things: Its graphics are good.
The density of the forest makes it fell more like a jungle (If its supposed the be a jungle, their doing it right)
Stealth in this game is almost perfect, but sometimes buggy. Like Ill be laying right in front of a gallimimus (not in long grass or a bush, just in plain sight) and he will have no reaction till I crouch.

Overall, this game is pretty worth it, but I hope they dont become one of those games that dont update it for 4 whole months or something like that.

P.S: Those Huge Dinosaurs with the spikey tails (forgot the name) make little to no noise when chasing you. I have experience with this, because I walking around, and this ♥♥♥♥er comes out of Knowhere and completly rekts me (and yes, it did scary the living ♥♥♥♥ out of me). This dinosaur makes this game a horror game... I swear.

Other then that, and the problems listed above, 10/10

Game never left alpha stages. Devs took a 2 month vacation and didn't tell anyone. Should be an automatic refund for all purchasers and a fraud investigation by the relevant authorities.

so much potential but it feels choppy, after looking at videos i figured i would buy it, dont trust the youtube videos. i dont know if its from changing the engine but the craft system is completely different and awkward, the dinos seem buggy, and i cant honestly say this was worth buying at the time of reveiw and this is coming from somone who could justify buying sonic unleashed. wait for it to be finished and check back again. and as a mention to the developers, make it so we can either move while having the craft menu up, or make it less of a ♥♥♥♥♥ to work with. it sucks to get caught with your pants down while trying to craft somthing.

As probably most of you guys i bought this game on the day it first was released on steam and played for 10hrs straight. me and my friends had a ton of fun with it and even rented an own server. after 1 or 2 days it started to get pretty boring because there wasn't much to do and the server/game perfomance was pretty horrible (that wasn't a big deal at all due to the game beeing early access alpha) BUT days turned into weeks and weeks into month and there was nothing but silence from the gamedevs and the weird suspicion started to grow stonger. the ♥♥♥♥ty excuses of the headdesinger didn't help the situation at all. my opinion: great idea behind the game but the devs aren't worth our trust at all so to the people considering a purchase: DON'T! my trust in earlyaccess games is gone and i won't purchase any other unfinished products due to this poor example of gamefunding.
