About This Game

Call of Duty® delivers the gritty realism and cinematic intensity of World War II's epic battlefield moments like never before - through the eyes of citizen soldiers and unsung heroes from an alliance of countries who together helped shape the course of modern history.

Play through the chaos of battle as part of a well-trained squad, that lays down covering fire and pulls its wounded to safety. In addition to authentic squad movements and tactics, each soldier's distinct personality and training comes out on the battlefield.

No one soldier or nation single-handedly won the war. For the first time, Call of Duty® captures the war from multiple perspectives, through the eyes of American, British and Russian soldiers. Battle through 24 missions spanning 4 interconnected historical campaigns. Take on mission objectives ranging from sabotage and all-out assault to stealth, vehicle combat and rescue. Authentic weapons, locations, vehicles and sounds of war all contribute to the realism, immersing you in the most intense World War II experience yet.

Very different than the future CODs
When i played the SP it was very different than the other CODs i've played and it almost feels like a different game altogether and the story teaches you a lot more about WW2 and the hard times soldiers had to go through.
A downside to this game is that there is no ranked multiplayer and you can only play with friends who also have the game but i guess that can be excused for it is a 2003 release.

To conclude, if you want to play a good PC game and maybe not have a very powerful computer to run 'newer' games or just want to re-live old memories from playing past CODs this one's definetly for you.

Frustrating single player with infinitely respawning enemies that throw a lot of grenades. No HP regen, grind and grind away. Multiplayer community is expert level and hard to break into without many deaths. Best COD ever

This is it, the first call of duty, and it was great then, and its still great now, pretty much. Ok where to start? well I really want to go over single player first. I bought the game for really for single player but you can still find server's sometimes. You start of in US army basic training. and cap. Foly shows your some old propaganda signs that look better then half the graphics in *insert newest call of duty here*. you then run the trainig corse and crawl under live fire. and do not forget what happed to private Bell, he did not keep his head down. then its wepons training. Your first taste of battle is d-day. as private Martin, you land in france and act as a path finder. over all the american missons are great as all the missons, but its the russian missons we talk about the most. There are car chase's and secret missons and mass attacks, and its all more realistic then QTE gubbins and granade spam. For full price it might be worth it but I know it was for me, its up to you to choose. It runs great and I do not think it has ever crashed. I play it on windows 8.1. this game is a masterpiace and all you really need to do is play up to call of duty 4 or world at war, then stop.

Unless your REALLY determent to get a game working, this is not for you. Nostagia may get in the way, but if you have Windows 8+, 10,..., this game's system IS GOING TO ♥♥♥♥ YOU IN THE ♥♥♥. The game keeps on giving you black screens upon pressing play, which eventually pisses you off. There are many solutions out there, but none of them SEEM TO ♥♥♥♥ING WORK. AT LEAST EXPLAIN YOUR SOLUTIONS BETTER OR GIVE A ♥♥♥♥ING VIDEO. Whatever. I've had a tough day as it is. But since I ranked today in CSGO, I'll give it a pro. You get to play as a Vodka-drinking, Dota-loving, counter-strike murderer, ♥♥♥♥ BYLAT, ♥♥♥♥ Hitler and nein nein nein Russian.

10/10 Better than Call of Duty. Oh shi-

It was really nice to finally be able to play the game that started it all, and its aged pretty well. A few nitpicks here or there about some bad checkpoints and padding out the game length with the "Survive for 5 minutes" missions but otherwise I really enjoyed the 5 hour campaign. It was simple, short, and fun. In terms of the Steam port heres the info:

- 4:3 the only aspect ratio available (Widescreen mods are available, check the guides tab)

- Multiplayer is pretty much dead (Still has some modded servers up but if you're trying to play the vanilla game you'll need friends)

- No achievements (360 port got these in the 2009 version, could have been added in)

Otherwise great game and would definately recommend for $10 or less.

This game started the Call of Duty franchise! This is probably the second best game of the entire franchise. It looks horrible, but the story and immersion are amazing! On the hardest difficulty, the AI is intelligent, though ammo still remains to be manufactured out of thin air...

The voice acting and story alone are good reasons to get the game. The presentation is fairly accurate compared to the real WWII! Highly recommended if you are looking for a great classic!

If you're looking for a nostalgia trip, or you're of the younger generation and looking to see where one of todays largest franchise started, and yes it may not have the best graphics, or the best AI (i could go on about what it doesn't have compared to todays games, but i won't.) but what it does have is so of the best graphics, AI, moustaches etc from the late 1990's, this was great back then and it is still now, i remember playing this back when i was young, althrough I was too young and too stupid to finish it, i had fun and having played it now just brings it all back. I mean AI may not be smart, but they will punish you even on the easier levels if you're not paying attention, and the non-regening health adds to that. So if you have a couple dollars to throw around and no other game to play, I recommend you to buy it.

This game is great I miss the old days when the COD people made WW2 games.

The graphics aren't great but who cares it's one of the best CODs I ever played, I highly recomend it!

Also why isn't Call Of Duty 3 on here for purchase?

This plays much more like a Medal of Honor than a Call of Duty. So if you liked the original MOH games then I highly recommend this one. I am myself, a very big fan of Medal of Honor so I recommend this game very much.

Yes, I am aware that the Russian mission is historically inaccurate, and yes I am aware that it comes straight from Enemy at the Gates.
I don't care, it's still awesome.

A lovely trip down memory lane. Gameplay is timeless. Classic 'win-the-war-sinlehandedly' fun. Although i reccommend gettin it on special. $20 for a game released in 2003. Battlefield 1942 is free!

Wow, this game brings good memories back. As for 2003 year game, it was simply amazing. You play as a soldier in American, British and Russian campaign . Great graphics, solid presentation of historic WWII battles, great gameplay, awesome music. The very first game in the amazing Call of Duty series. I'm glad I've played it. Highly recommended!

I have completed the game on all 4 difficulties at least once. Basically, Greenhorn, Regular and Hardened all differ in the amount of damage enemy A.I. is dealing to the player, however, on Veteran, not only enemy A.I. is dealing the same, if not slightly more damage to the player than in Hardened, but there are also no health pickups whatsoever!
So the only way to beat this game on Veteran is to abuse quicksave/quickload function, which, thank goodness, is very well implemented. R.I.P. F5 + F9

Ah, what a lovely blast from the past. Having never played Call of Duty games prior to Modern Warfare, I was surprised at how easy it was to get in and enjoy the gameplay, despite the dated graphic. I would still say that Medal of Honor is a better game, but ultimately it comes down to taste.

Played on the second hardest difficulty, and it can get pretty rough. Sometimes you'll round a corner (or simply peek) and be instantly killed - and I mean instant. The enemies can have insane accuracy at times. But, all in all, this game is still a fun experience and worth a playthrough.

Oh, get it on sale though. There's absolutely no reason to pay $20 for a game that's 13 years old (and has a 5.5 hour campaign).
