“Among the Sleep deserves a great deal of credit for its story.”
8/10 – The Guardian

“You can never trust what's real and what's you being a scared little kid.”
8/10 – Joystiq

“Krillbite's horror game is an impressive feat in video game storytelling. It leaves more of an impact in a distilled 3 to 4 hours than some games with 60-hour campaigns.”

About This Game

Among the Sleep is a first person horror adventure, in which you play a two year old child. After waking up in the middle of the night to mysterious sounds, you start exploring the dark looking for comfort.

The game explores horror through atmosphere and exploration, not with scores and combat systems. In Among the Sleep you’re vulnerable, scared, and trying to make sense of the world.

The game has Oculus Rift DK1 support, but further support will not be developed. This game will not be available for HTC Vive.

What people are saying

  • "More, please!"
    - Kotaku
  • "[...] it more than succeeds in creating a wonderfully eerie atmosphere full of childlike anxiety, and along the way tackles a serious subject in a darkly poignant manner."
    - IGN
  • "Its depiction of a first-person horror told through the eyes and stumbling little legs of a two-year old is as intriguing as anything I've seen all year, and reminiscent of a time when games actively sought out new ways to play and new stories to tell."
    - Eurogamer

Really good game, at the end comes big plot that explanes the whole situation that this kid has to deal with.
I would say that this game is similar to Papa & Yo becaufe of metafory of hard lifes of kids around the world.

The bad part of the game is the length of it, on the internet says that it takes about 3 hr to finish it, i made it with out rushing in 1hr 30min or something similar.

Overall in scale 3/14 i give this game a solid 9

Among the Sleep is a mash up of several game types including puzzle, mystery, horror, and interactive storytelling.

Among the Sleep is a very short game of around three hours in length and yet those three hours are better than some games that I have played for over sixty hours.

Not since playing Silent Hill 2 have I had a game fill me with so much dread and by the end an equal amount of profound sadness.

If you can find Among the Sleep on sale I highly recommend picking it up.

I'm one of those gamers that just can't play horror games like SCP and Outlast. I start those games and I end up quitting 5 minutes later. However, I managed to get through this game (probably the scariest game I've actually completed).
The thing that makes this game so good is how it portays the helplessness of being a baby. The slightest sounds put you on edge, and if there's a threat, there is absolutely nothing you can do but run and hide somewhere. This immersiveness is what made me keep playing (despite having the crap scared out of me).

It's also a fantastic artistic representation of how a child sees the world and perceives danger.

A very pretty game that keeps you feeling jumpy at every sound. Its different then games like Outlast but a refreshing kind of different and the storyline I was able to predict some of it but not all so worth getting and not a lot of achievement's but I like that.

Mmmmeeeeh... I do recommend it, but definitely not at full price. 15 euros for 2 hours worth of gameplay isn't a very good deal.

The teddy bear was supposed to be sent by dad, who probably has been divorced with mama. Due to some terrible experiences, mom had a night time drinking and anger with the teddy given by dad. For children's world, it mix real and fake by imagination. In the world of 'mine'(the kid),teddy led and protected me, mom became a devil. Poor teddy was be destoryed by her. It's daytime now, does everything really be solved? What about mom and kid? Their mind, their lives will be changed. Do something good with the kids. Do not provide them any psychological shadow in their childhood. 9/10

I was quite surprised by this game. I had not really heard too much about it aside from the fact that you play as a toddler, and it's creepy.

The game offers a unique perspective as you view the world through the eyes of a child, and it's a pretty scary world; There's a lot of creepiness to it, and in the end, you'll understand why, but I won't spoil that.

You are not alone in this world though as your faithful friend, Teddy, an actual talking teddy bear, goes with you, helping you out and keeping you company.

As far as length, it's around 4-5 hours? There's also a Prolouge, which is about an hour or so in length, and it is its own chapter, though I'd recommend playing it AFTER the main game for perspective.

There's definitely a creepy atmosphere, along with hiding from...something...and being quiet. The audio in this game is top notch, with creepy sounds of all types here and there, setting the mood nicely and making your hair stand on end. I highly suggest playing with headphones on to fully experience it.

The overall gameplay is pretty simple as you walk or crawl from place to place, figuring some puzzles out, and discovering what awaits in the next room.

There's also some collectables which come in the form of children's drawings that are hidden throughout the levels.

It's a nice spooky game with interesting imagery and gameplay, so this definitely comes with a thumbs up from me!

1 minute in: The hell am I watching
5 minutes in: Not sure about that bear
10 minutes in: OH GOD whats tha... oh its a chair
15 minutes in: I think I'm safe all the time in this game
16 minutes in: OH GOD NO I was wrong!

Not my normal cup of tea, but it was an amazing experience.

Among the Sleep is a horror game from the perspective of a baby. I really wish I could say I liked it more. I mean, your walking animation is just adorable, with your little star pajamas and clenched fists waving around full of infant determination. Sprinting is walking on all fours, which is also clever.

Other than that, there's not much to the game. How could there be? The game can be finished in about two hours, including the prequel free DLC and even then it doesn’t have much to show for those two hours. The boogeyman can barely catch you, except when he's scripted to show up on your tail. There are no mechanics except some very light climbing and block pushing. It's baby's first puzzle game, which is odd, since it seemed to be a game with a child, not a game for a child. By the end, the game does have some interesting elements with adult themes that a baby couldn't understand, but it's not much to go on. Seeing normal things from a very low perspective also make some mundane things very menacing, but there's not much more to that either. The game is set in a well-realised, but a bit trite nightmare otherworld that almost every other horror game has been putting out since Silent Hill.

Among the Sleep is okay, but I would not recommend it to anyone but a diehard horror fan that wants to try everything.

Let me express something before we get into this: I am a pansy. I have yet to completely finish the first Amnesia. I have a backlog of horror games (including some point n' clicks) that grows every day. Because I have a problem. I LOVE horror games... but like an ice cream enthusiast who happens to also be lactose intolerant, horror games do not love me. So there you have it; that's the score.

Now that being said, I'm going to power through this one to completion. Know why? Because it's that good. Oh man is this game good. It is a testament to why horror games are so great... and why even now, in a market saturated with action horrors and tired old tropes, you'll still find an "Among the Sleep." This game is horrifying. Care to know why? What's the biggest issue plaguing the horror genre? That's right: termites. And player empowerment. Sometimes I'm a big, brave guy lugging around a shotgun. Sometimes I'm running around with a camera. Sometimes I might as well be stark naked. But I always find myself on equal ground with the baddies. Sure they're menacing, but I'm faster. And smarter. And sometimes more heavily armed. And suddenly we're not playing a horror game anymore. So how do we remove player empowerment, a hypothetical developer might muse? How do we make the player feel like a babe lost in the woods? We turn them into a ♥♥♥♥ing babe, right down to the wobbles and coos and imaginary friends.

And when I tell you that makes this game immersive and terrifying, I'm not kidding. When you pause the screen you cover your little eyes. When you move at all, AT ALL, you make adorable little sounds of struggle. And when you, the player, gaze into that mother♥♥♥♥ing abyss, that sucker stares right back. Every shadow hides a menace, every sound betrays a would-be threat. Everything is so big and intimidating. The whole environment just mocks you as you explore it semi-impotently. Because you're a baby. A smart baby, yes. But a baby. And that big, scary world is out to get you.

I'm not remotely done with this game. I know I have a ways to go. I'm already freaked out - in a good way! If you have a passing interest in horror, you won't be disappointed. Now I'm going to go clean the boom-boom out of my pants and press onward.

Among the Sleep is a horror game that has a really unique aproach to horror. But will you want to play this through ? In Among the Sleep you dont play as an adult but instead as a two year old child. The game begins and its our birthday and we get a teddy bear as a present. But one night you wake up to find out that the teddy bear and your mom is missing so its up to you to find them. So how is Among the sleep ? Im kinda mixed on this game honestly. The gameplay is smooth and its a blast to play but there are problems that weigh down the experience. First of all the game is just like amnesia. The main charecter is defensless and theres nothing you can do about it so you have to hide to get away from monsters. The game also throws in puzzles you need to solve to get to the end. So now for the pros and cons. Pros: The game looks amazing. Its just amazing to see a nightmare world through a childs eyes. The story has a great set up and the ending is also really good. Atmosphere is outstandng and its one of the best i have ever seen in a horror game. But now for the cons. The game is incredibly short only an hour to beat. Easy puzzles that dont feel like they should be there. Sometimes frustrating stealth segments. Confusing map layouts and sometimes wonky controls. Overall Among the Sleep is an excellent horror game but it has its fare share of problems. I highly suggest you get this game on a sale and not full priced and dont go in expecting a masterpiece and you should be all good. I give Among the Sleep a 7/10

I finished the game in a single sitting (roughly 2½ hours).
I don't think that there's replay value to this game either, unless it gets mods at some point.

Even so, I would recommend playing this for it's strong atmosphere, and the intense moments.

If I had to give this some scores between 1-10, here's what I think:

Gameplay: 5/10
Story: 6/10
Atmosphere: 8.5/10

If you are on the edge about this one, then maybe pick it up later, during a sale.
It's a game worth experiencing.

I never thought playing as a 2 year old could be so spooky..It is short but still a good game..Easy puzzles that keep the game flowing , great audio and graphics, nice scares..If you like scary games with no gore (who's gonna rip apart a 2 year old), then this is the game for you..
