great game, love the open world bosses, the difficulty of some of the feats and the character customization. the game feels a bit grindy from time to time but what mmo isnt? pvp is a bit glitchy at times and the factions are very unbalanced in terms of population, but all the more fun imo.

wish they would bring back role specific pvp gear, though.

I played this game in beta. It had many promising features but as the game progressed they cut corners or dismissed entire ideas. After a year i went back and found it is now Free to play but with Microtransations. I instantly hated the game. Just like Star Trek Online, it is wrapped in DC with voices from the Justice League Cartoon but is a standard beat em up.

Let me explain the problems i had faced
-Facing an army of invaders is a common theme in a DC universe. Enemies attack earth and the hero(es) go out and fight back and save the innocents. They keep fighting until every enemy is defeated and the day is saved. What happens in DCU is you get given a quest "Defeat X enemy" and after the chain quest you are expected to leave the respawning invasion to continue their ramage. You feel a bit disapointed since you didn't really stop the invasion since the developers of this game give you the option to return and fight them.

-Being a villian can be fun for a few days but it runs dry.
You beat up heroes, Smash stuff and rob vending machines but you are a basic slave to other villians when you are commiting crimes.
Want to rob a convience store? have to do a quest.
Kidnap people for ransom? Nope.
Destroy cities or buildings? Only small objects.
Make your own deathray? Heck no, Go help some one who is more important.
Want to (insert here), Answer will be no.

-You are meant to change the fate of future but you feel more like errand boy who only don't help at the grand scheme of things.

-To further progress you need to cough up money and unlocking a few stages don't mount up for any thing.

A nice open world superhero mmo. Great customization, very little need for any in game purchase, 6 decent storylines. Gameplay can get repeatitive, but its still good fun. Some actions (such as jumping) are missing animations or particles, so it can feel janky at times.

I have gotten approx 27 characters to combat rating 120+. Played it for a year on PS before PC. Played it a ♥♥♥♥ ton before getting it on steam once I had gotten a new PC. It is genuinely a good game but for whatever reason i can't download it again on or off steam. Still a good game to play if you're in to the DC Universe. But, only if you can download of corse.

I loved this game for over 4 years, but the constant game bugs that never get fixed (if you report the bugs to the developers, you will be told basically the issue is your hardware & never the developers fault & the bug will never be fixed), and constant cash grabs by greedy developers have just ruined this game. There is even a bug in which you won’t be able to collect a certain mission while levelling your character that has never been fixed…& that was 2 years ago, with no fix in sight. ‘Free To Play’? HA!! This game is STRICTLY ‘Pay To Win’.
If you don’t have the power ‘flavour of the month’, or aren’t willing to pay real dollars to change to the power ‘flavour of the month’ ($10 US a pop btw), don’t bother going DPS (damage role). You won’t be able to get up, or get anywhere near the power ‘flavour of the month’s’ damage (not even if you have more skill points than them) which makes for an EXTREMELY toxic community, totally unbalanced game and a huge cash cow for Baybreak, who as far as I can tell, only want your money & don’t care at all about you or the game. The game is all about ‘skill points’. Skill points are used to give your character permanent stat increases which you can obtain by completing feats. So the more feats you complete, the more skill points you get which should make your character stronger right? Wrong. Like I said before, unless you have the power ‘flavour of the month’, don’t bother.
Pvp was good, until they changed it to accommodate for lag. Basically you have 1.3 seconds (not sure of exact times) to block or counter your opponent. It used to be if you were blocking, you were blocking, if you weren’t blocking, you weren’t blocking. Pretty simple rock, paper, scissors combat system, that is now completely broken. It is that broken that I don’t even bother with PVP anymore.
I’d recommend playing this game for a bit to check it out, and then go to something else. Don’t EVER pay ANYTHING for this game, it’s not worth it.

I'm not gonna go on a huge rant here, so I'll keep it simple and short.

Worth trying out if you're into superheroes, but be prepared for a really short character progression (you top out at level 30), and paywalls literally everywhere.

Want to use all that cash you've found on your missions? Paywall.
Want to upgrade your base with those nifty items you've got? Paywall.
Want to get that cool power that you saw this guy use? Paywall.
And so on. In short, fun for a while, but it gets stale fast, with all the paywalls and the limited scope of the story.

I started playing this game back in 2012 solely for the PvP side, I still remember when I played this game on PS3, and how much fun it was but each year and update they would ruin something. PvP is broken to the point where you can't even enjoy it unless you're a certain power. The lag on PvP is amazing you can BB someone but be on the floor and lunge someone that is BBing but they somehow block your attack, it's become a joke. Yes most of my problems are with PvP but the ammount of disconnects and lag recently isn't even funny they just add and add add but won't fix issues that have been in this game for years. You'd think with release of Xbox and how much money they making from it would allow them to add more to the game, but even that release was rushed. I don't hate this game and will still play it but it is broken, and I'm sure it will never be fixed. Give it a shot but don't expect much apart from multiple disconnects.

To begin, I have had DCUO on OS3 for roughly 4 years with 800 hours played and on PS4 with about 100 hours. Recently, I started is on PC and it is no different from console versions, so this review will apply to any system. That being said, DCUO is a toss up in terms of well crafted, F2P MMOs.

For quite a time, Sony owned and maintained this title to be excellent. Recently, it was sold to Daybreak and has struggled to maintain it's life. People will call this game "Pay to win" and in some aspects, it makes sense but truthfully it isn't. End game content can have some "flavor of the month" powers but for most solo and story play, all powers and roles are perfectly viable. There is no distint "best power" in the game.

That being said, 6 are free at the beginning with 7 more being available as DLC for $35 for them all. I have purchased all the powers and find that, though each is unique and requires different play styles, none are remotely required for PvE or PvP.

The game is notoriously buggy as of late (last 6 months), which is mainly due to DayBreak not maintaining QA and failing to listen to consumers. They are still producing monthly content that is pretty good as far as story goes, so that's a plus.

Speaking of story, the one in this game is fantastic as well. It incorporates DC's best heroes and really make good use of many of them. If you're looking for a F2P MMO, this is never a bad one to play, but content is slightly hindered with pricewalls, even if they don't stop completion of the main story.

I played this a lot on the playstation and computer. I have way more hours than what steam suggests. However; I did not enjoy the game anymore a couple years back. Coming back I expected the same old introduction, and tired ♥♥♥ quests, that I had already completed. Instead, they acknowledged the age of the game and told a story of the humans failure. They also made it to where as long as you tag a enemy or objective, you will get it, so first hitting mobs doesn't matter as the quests are completed with area based people. The playerbase does a fairly good job in low levels to prevent people from farming lowbies. A lot of people seem to have an issue with daybreak, but I find them to be great, and very helpful. This is a free to play game, but those who complain are the same people who do not support the game. This is a company and they need funding to continue gaming. Not too mention, I also played Planetside 2 as well. Daybreak has a 5 game pass for the price of one mmo. Now I hate Everquest, EQ 2 and Landmark. However; I suggest you play until level 30, if you do decide prior to that to subscribe great...but once you reach 30 on your main, I would suggest obtaining the benefits of a subscription if you are able to afford it. The story feels fresh again, although the quests are the same until you get to newer content. The graphics have been polished fairly well, and the gameplay is still one of the best out there.

If you are thinking about playing it for the first time, I would suggest doing so until at least level 30, so you can finish the first storyline. It is ftp afterall and the not having the benefits is not going to cripple you early. You can farm a lot for the gear and items you need and/or want. However; the subscription is a convenience, it is not required, but once you start grinding for gear to PVP or whatever you enjoy, it will take you longer.

I have played many different MMOS in my gaming lifetime, but DC Universe is more than you run of the mill sand box MMO. DC Universe not only pokes the inner commic nerd, MMOer, but the customizable options are second to none. Also, like most free to play games, there is an option which again differs greatly from most MMOs. The "pay to win" option, where in fact with DC Universe... this option is more like pay to gain yet even MORE customizable options. Such as wider span of powers, lair (YES you get a lair of your own ... very cool) options, and BIGGER bank roll (everyone loves more money). The DC cummunity also stands out, just about everyone is helpfull... so you have a boss you can't solo... you can always find one or more players welling to hop into the fray with ya to get it done. All in all ... it is quite challenging to find negatives about this action packed, super commic MMO!! If you grew up loving DC commics... than look no further, if you don't believe me I challenge you to try it out yourself and not enjoy it! LOL.

This is an utterly addictive game for a fan of DC Comics. I'm uncertain how non-fans might feel, but as a fangirl, I've really enjoyed playing in the world I've read about for so many years.

I'm using a free account, which means I've been bumping up against the paywall, but despite the limitations, the game is still playable, just more challenging (which is a plus).

The positives are many: Lots of in-jokes, winks, and nods for the long-time fans to enjoy. The game itself is fun, allowing you to create superhero characters with a good variety of powers. Leveling up through the first 30 levels is guided by missions that you must complete to advance to the next mission. Each one provides new challenges for learning your skills and powers. Once you reach level 30, the real game starts with a variety of daily missions available and plenty of different possible paths, from player-vs-player to group co-op play and even quite a few single player adventures.

As a person who enjoys single player, I found the gameplay immersive and fun... although playing some scenarios solo is definitely a challenge. You learn how to draw enemies away from the crowd to take them on singly. This is definitely a game to play with a group. The adventures in which I've teamed up with others have been extremely fun.

The negatives are mostly due to playing on a free account. Free accounts cannot sell items on the broker, have limited inventory and banking space, and the cash limit really makes it difficult to buy really nice gear. However, these are all challenges and working around them can actually make the game more fun. Although, considering the amount of time I've already put into the game and how much I enjoy it, I suspect I will eventually pay for an account.

Other negatives: The game is prone to freezing and crashing, but luckily it happens rarely. I'm sure part of it is due to my lack of a proper gaming computer. Like any Massive Multiplaying Online game, there are downtimes. In fact, I'm writing this in a downtime, since I'd scheduled some time to play and the game is offline. For a complete newbie, the controls are not obvious and there are no simple guides to show people how to move and hit. Yeah, I bumped my first opponent a lot until I figured out how to use the keyboard and mouse together.

In short, the positives outweigh the negatives for the most part. If you are a fan of DC Comics, this is definitely a game to try.
