Why we’re launching Sniper Elite 4 in Feb 2017

Dear Sniper Elite fans past, present and future!

We hope that you’re all enjoying the sights, sounds and megatonnes of E3! Of course we’re going to be in Los Angeles too with Sniper Elite 4 and Battlezone, so expect to see lots of live footage, gameplay clips and more over the next week, but we also have some more news too that we want to talk about...

Today we’re announcing that Sniper Elite 4 is launching February 14th, 2017.

When we originally revealed the game back in March, our plan was to release this year, and this was only reinforced when our pre-Alpha build was received incredibly well by those who got to see it at GDC in San Francisco.
Was it nerve-wracking showing the game for the first time, and quite a lot earlier in production than we normally do? Absolutely, but in the end we felt confident the game was where we wanted it to be. I’d go as far as saying the demo had some of the best preview feedback we’ve ever had.

So when we sat down recently to decide a launch date, we had a decision to make. Do we stick to 2016 as planned many moons ago, or do we give the team just a little more time to help them deliver beyond the promise that the game has already shown, to hone the game’s best features, or even add new ones that previously might have been left on the cutting-room floor?

It wasn’t an easy decision but for us it seems like a win-win for both Rebellion and Sniper Elite fans.

This is why we’re proud to be completely independent. Being independent means you can make changes when things are going really well, rather than just reacting when things don’t go to plan.

We know a lot of you will be disappointed that you won’t get to play Sniper Elite 4 this year, but we hope you understand our decision and enjoy all the new footage and details from our beautiful “Viaduct” level this week.

We’re also heading to some public shows in the UK and Europe in the near future, so look out for us there and make sure to say hello!

Thank you as ever, for supporting independent UK games development.

Chris and Jason Kingsley, Rebellion Co-Founders

Stealth feels good, shooting people in slow motion feels good, visuals are nice, performance is great and the game itself is complex yet very accesible.
Don´t know how I managed to ignore this series until now but I really like it!

So I picked this game up durring the steam summer sale, thinking it would be a nice expierence.
It was... but not for the hefty real price tag.

The game itself barely has any content right from the start. From missions to guns, there was very little. It seemed to be buy dlc to use this gun type of game. It seemed that the game was aimed for multiplayer.

Second issue, clipping. Usually you think you can fire over cover? Wrong. Most cover was broken in the way that the hitbox was larger than your crouch profile; which ended up fluffing your shots. In this game firing alerts enemys to your position so It is frustrating seeing your shot magicaly not happen and you pressing down the trigger agian thinking it just "missed".

Third issue, "Sniper Elite". You'd think this game was about sniping, from doing cool trick shots or raining death from afar. You are wrong. Most of the game play is geared towards "stealth". Which means you rarely get to fire your sniper. Firing your gun, ANYWHERE, even if there are no enemies around alerts everyone on the map. Utilizing the system of sound masking, gives you an average of 1 shot per minute, unless you find a generator in a good position which is not common. If you break stealth, depening on the difficulty, all the enemies will come alive and chase you down.

Fourth Issue, movement. Sprinting in this game is completly redudant. Normal walking is basicly sprinting without holding shift. Because of this enemies will notice you from afar if you just stand up. This leads to the ENTIRE game of playing CROUCH MAN. Which is completly irratating due to the fact it is slower than a slug. There is no sprint crouch like in MGSV.

In the end I rate this game a 6/10. It has a decent engine, mechanics but lacking in content and riddled with bugs and poor in-game player optimization.

I haven't had a bad time playing this game, and If you can grab it on sale I'd definitly say go for it

However, unless you really have a hard-on for WWII games, or the cute little bullet cam in this game I'd just say get MGSV. Both offer a very similar expierience, but Metal Gear has much more polish and a much more open gameplay exprience. Notice how I only have about 3 hours. Well in those 3 hours I've come across more glithces, awkward controls, and restrictions then I have in all my time in Metal Gear Solid V. Not that I'm saying MGSV is a perfect game. That game had plenty of flaws, but Sniper Elite III and Metal Gear Solid V are very comparable in my opinion and Metal Gear is just better.

It's a bit too unstable and buggy for my taste and the stealth needs serious improvement but it's fun enough in COOP and has enough potential for a sequal to be interesting if done right. It's not bad, it's not mediocre and it's not good it's just pretty hard to describe. Voice acting for everyone but the main character sucks and the story and writing aren't much better. The environments aren't memorable but the allow for enough fun to be serviceable/passable. Good ideas and only decent execution. The gunplay in particular for every weapon that isn't a sniper rifle is just awful. The weapons suck far too much for me to believe it was done intentionally to benefit the stealth game mechanics which have seen some improvements since V2 (which had one of the best demos I've played). A better less zoomed in and more free thirdperson camera and less trundle like movement would be nice too. If you are going to buy this you should only do it to play COOP with your buddy. The AI aren't smart and go between aimbot and bugging out when you are detected. The saving grace is it's COOP and not just because playing a game with another person can make it more interesting. You can play through every story mode level with a buddy and thats pretty awesome. There are not enough proper slighly non linear stealth focused COOP games and most of the ones that exist suck like Splinter Cell: Conviction. If there weren't just the thumbs up or thumbs down I would pick mixed because if you aren't able to play COOP with a buddy Sniper Elite 3 might just suck. Here's hoping Sniper Elite 4 is the Hitman: Bloodmoney of the series AND that it has COOP.

Main game
✓ Good story
✓ Sound effects are good.
✓ Great graphics especially X Ray Cam .
✓ Gameplay is great when shooting with a sniper in distance will never get you borring.
✓ Co op is fun , the whole single player Campaign can be played with a friend and apart from that there are others missions to play with friends too. This is great!
✓ Game set location is great(Africa), Large maps and side missions within the map
✓ Multiplayer is hard , but as you get used to it is fun.

✖ Short game play time compared to Sniper Elite 2. It feels like the game is smaller that Sniper elite 2. How ever its only a small flaw since the maps are big and side missions are fun.

  • Target Hitler: Hunt the Grey Wolf :
Its short but in a large map there are several sub missions and there are several ways you can kill Hitler. This DLC is not bad for the price. Plus if you are achievement hunter you should buy.

  • Save Churchill Part 1
  • Save Churchill Part 2
  • Save Churchill Part 3
The story continues in 3 DLC. For part 2 and 3 there is a new map. Price is high compared to the play time but if you are achievement hunter its for you.

  • Rifles DLC are okay it will come in handy in single player , co op and multiplayer.
  • Skin DLC is only useful in multiplayer. If you are not looking forward to play multiplayer much no use of buying .

If you like stealth games its a great game for you.

So, after completing the story over 40 times (atleast), reaching lvl50 ingame and getting every single achievement on the game I can savely say that this game is probably the best follow up after Sniper Elite 2 that a gamer could've hoped for. Although the game has some issues of it's own, which haven't been fixed even though the game has been "live" for almost 2 years now. The controls are smooth and easy to understand and remember and the story gives you a good allround vision on where the story is leading to. I sincerely do think the ending was superb and interesting, since well let's be honest... no one expected the Ratte to be real right?

Also a plus was the co-op options for both co-op missions and campain itself, this makes for a very fun time with friends and ads to the game value. Although I do think the game is slightly overpriced at the moment (€45,99) I would say buy it if you can. But remember you need to have the season pass to have the full experience. Otherwise you'll struggle alot stealthing the game on higher difficulties. Beside that the season pass offers you extra missions and alot of new weapons. Which is totally worth it.

Well that's it I guess, I recommend this game for any lover of 3th person shooters with awesome bullet mechanics (slow-motion) and great overall gameplay & experience.

I'm sorry if my english isn't perfect, I'm not a native english speaker.

This review is limited to the single-player campaign. There isn't much of a multiplayer community left.

I enjoyed Sniper Elite 3. The game looks great and it's fun sneaking around and sniping people. There are only 8 missions in the single-player campaign, but each map is very large and will take a while to complete. I wouldn't pay the full $50 sticker price for just 8 missions, but if you buy the game on sale it's fine. The level design is a bit uneven. Maps 1-5 are ok, 6-7 are very good, and the final map is awesome. The game also gets more fun as you go along. At first you're just dealing with rifleman, but by the final mission there are enemies wileding rocket launchers, enemies riding tanks, and enemy snipers in ghilli suits. SE3 is more limited than other war-themed shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield. There are no vehicles to ride and every stage is set in North Africa, but with only 8 missions it doesn't overstay it's welcome.

In terms of DLC, definitely buy Saving Churchill. The Hunt for the Gray Wolf is not nearly as fun and can be skipped. Weapons packs aren't really necessary (in fact they kind of detract from the fun of earning the non-DLC weapons during the campaign, as whatever DLC weapons you buy become available immediately). But if you must, the best packs are the Axis weapons (which gives the Type 99 sniper rifle) and the Camo weapons pack (which gives a semi-automatic suppressed pistol).

I do like the game but you're kinda forced to buy the season pass. You don't get much when you just buy the game. You get like 4 snipers by default, 4 secondaries and a short campain. Unless this game is on sale which it probably is in the summer sale, Do not waste you're money on this. Buy Sniper Elite V2 instead.

If you have a thing for watching people getting shot in slow motion ans x-ray vision, this is a good alternative to doing it in real life.
X-rays and slow motion cameras cost a lot.
Oh, and it's illegal.
That too.

Sniper Elite is a fantastic WW2 stealth shooter, where you play as OSS officer Karl Fairburne (known from the previous SE games) set on a special mission to hunt down the German general Vahlen. The game takes place on the North African front. You fight both Italian and German armed forces. As you progress trough eight missions, you gradually reveal Vahlen's plans to build a superweapon and, of course, face himself at the end of the game.

Sniper Elite is also a tactical shooter, which means that, first, you explore your surroundings, and then you plan your attack. You can play stealthy or just rush through the maps. Stealthy gameplay is recommended. Not only it's safer, but it's where this game shines the most.

You can sneak behind enemies and take down them with a knife, you can set traps, you can distract and isolate enemies to kill them in a quiet spot, you can blow a vehicle or explosives near the enemies, you can set up a chain reaction, you can snipe them both with and without sound masking, you can shoot them with a silenced pistol - the options are, indeed, many and all of them are fun.

As to the weapons, it's almost all WW2 arsenal (American, Brittish, Soviet, Polish, Japanese. German, Italian), including Panzerfaust, a special rocket launcher in the DLC mission "Belly of the Beast", dynamites, trip-mines, s-mines, hand grenades and land-mines. Not all weapons are available in the base version of the game, though. And, you'll need to unlock some weapons and weapon parts, as you progress through the campaign and ranks. The equipement consists of a sniper rifle, an assault rifle/shotgun/panzerfaust, a pistol and 5 items (explosives/anti-armor ammo or medkits).

Each mission is unique, each level is unique, it's really fun to explore the surrounding, not knowing what's behind the corner, when you play for the first time. The level design is one of the greatest that I have seen. I don't know who is the senior level designer, but, apparently, Rebellion has the right team for the job, because the level design is always excellent in the SE games.

The graphics are beautiful, as well. I did find the colours a bit too saturated, but, nevertheless, graphic quality is high and you do need a pretty solid system to run this game on highest settings. Also, the fact that North Africa is not that common setting in videogames makes SE3 to stand out. It adds a bit of extra fun.

Finally, this game has a CoOp mode and it's a "real" CoOp, you can play all campaign missions with your friends.

The other modes are survival challenges (solo or MP) and PvP. I did not try PvP, but I tried 10 waves in the Survival mode. I found it boring. Luckily, with the campaign and DLCs missions, there is enough content, so that you don't feel like you've wasted money on nothing.

The DLC packs Target Hitler: Hunt the Gray Wolf and Save Churchill are highly recommended. As to the weapon packs, see for yourself, how much money you want to spend. The default M1 Garand + Welrod are pretty much the only weapons you need. I also used: Lee Enfield, T99 (Axis Weapon Pack) and Springfield rifles (Patriot Weapon Pack). But, if you play stealthy and aim for the head, there is not much difference, which sniper rifle you use. I got all the DLC packs with the Season Pass. From secondary weapons, I also recommend: Panzerfaust and Semi-Auto HDM. MP40 comes handy, if you don't choose to play stealthy, as MP40 magazines are always available behind the enemy lines.

My overall rating: 9/10

Stealth, long range precision distance kills and deadly melee takedowns. A major improvement from the 1st and 2nd iterations of the series. This truly defines what a stealth sniping game is all about.

Graphics: 10/10
Outstanding by any means. The level of detail is something to behold, I have not seen this much level in detail in a game for so long. This one looks absolutely gorgeous even at low-medium settings. There are also a lot of graphics options to choose from to suit your needs and to maximise your experience.

Storyline: 7/10
You have to stop Germany from building a Super Tank that could potentially be used to change the tide of war. Other than that, that is the only ‘story’ you will get from this game as it isn’t really a story heavy game and it wasn’t made to be one. You’re buying this for the sniping experience, not much for the story.

Sound: 9/10
They nailed it. The sound of the rifle, the enemies around you and even your own footsteps can be heard in great detail. Nothing more can be said of how this game sounds. You hear what you’re supposed to hear, nothing else.

Gameplay: 9/10
This goes without saying but, you can snipe your enemies with skill and precision from a distance or get up close and personal and perform melee takedowns. Setting up traps and distractions can also be very fun if carefully planned and laid out. Oh, and I almost forgot...there are “sounds” in the game which can mask rifle shots which makes for quiet long distance shots; pretty impressive if you ask me. The overall game performed nice and smooth with no significant frame drops to report.

Price: 5/10
Priced at £39.99 for the base game, it is a little too much for the amount of gameplay hours you’re probably going to have. So, I suggest waiting until it goes on sale to pick it up.

Starts game
Fires sniper rifle
Bullet travels in slow motion, smashes a soldiers entire row of teeth to pieces, travels down his throat and smashes through his upper spine with gargling noises filling the air and blood playing everywhere.

Would study human anotomy again.

Sniper £lite 3 is a very good game, but is not perfect. In my opinion, Sniper Elite V2 has the better story.
I have finished this game inside 5hrs, and had fun with the DLC.

Invisible Walls & Barriers - I can aim at an enemy and it will hit a wall when the top of the head is on the Red Reticle.
Being Seen & Shot at in a building from the outside, what I mean is....they can see you and shoot you but you can not shoot them unless you are within range or sight.
Short story and not very ideal for an avid sniper game who like to shoot above 300m.....there are only 1 or 2 LONG shots you can make.

**Hitler DLC was better on Sniper Elite V2**

GFX & More choice of Snipers (when you have the DLC)
Exploding Testies'
Multiplayer seems more stable the previous game.
