Build 1712 - Server Fix, Mine Changes and More

Hey Everyone!

Sorry about the server outages – turns out some of the holiday code was left in an unfinished state and as the day rolled around the servers started trying to load code that wasn’t there. This build fixes that issue as well as including all the accumulated changes since last build.

Overview of changes:

  • Ladders crashing/lagging server bug should be fixed, but needs proper testing.
  • Mines only ignore shields within the immediate area – so if you’re shielding and a team-mate steps on it, you can survive.
  • Trampolines spawned from map can no longer be picked up
  • Mine has slightly increased priming time
  • Many scripts standardised to use SetDamageToCarrier
  • Fixed “clbutt” issue with noswears
  • Coins from damage are capped at full health, so the overkill weapons dont give extra money.
  • Fixed Name Hover Offset in TDM

Sorry for the haphazard presentation of this build, we weren’t planning on making a release so soon but the crash issue has made it necessary. Thank you for bearing with us through this.

We’ll be checking the build’s stability as much as we can but most of THD is out of the office over the new year period.

Let us know on the official forums if you have any ongoing issues with the build!

Have Fun!

KAG Update for Halloween

Hey guys, trying to keep up the rhythm of the weekly updates! Let's get to it!

Trench Run News:

We've got some big news about the future of Trench Run, but we'll save it for next week. This week has been huge for KAG, so I won't steal their thunder!

King Arthur's Gold News:

This next patch coming is a double-whammy of requested features and fixes and halloween spookiness. This is probably the biggest release largely handled by the interns, so please, give them your support!

We had a lot of laughs testing out the spooky event features!

Verra has merged in a plethora of modding and server hosting enhancements.

  • Fixed the infamous "infinite mod redownloading" bug
  • Render account avatars in-game
  • Lots of AngelScript error improvements (errors in #includes output correctly, lines matched to errors correctly)
  • Memory leaks and file handle leaks investigated + fixed where possible.
  • Limited the size of the backlog kept in console (very important for stability of long-running servers)
  • Removed the printout of blob creation (-> drastically reduced log size)

Other miscellaneous fixes and extensions to the engine include:

  • Sound volume getting set 100% all the time
  • Music "bursting" at the start of each track
  • primitive character name tab-complete in the chat box
  • extended TCPR functionality

Skinney and Verra have worked together on several gameplay changes as well:

  • Halloween content and a new "holiday" framework for recurring events.
  • Trampolines now cannot be folded, have a "reset time" before they can bounce something else, and work while held.
  • Mines do substantially more damage to tiles, ignore shields, and can be converted between teams if you pick them up before they deploy.
  • Arrows do not collide with other projectiles.
  • Spawning issues in CTF are mostly fixed, including spawn timers resetting and spawning at contested points.

As always, these changes are not final or inflexible, but we'd like you to give them a good thorough play before giving any feedback.

I'll say it in the easy way.

This game is a must-have for all the 2d fans!
basecally is a 2d game, in medieval times and PvP. The concept of the game is awesome, there are always servers with players and the developers work to fix the game. Because yes, there are actually some bugs, like crashes.
Some people compare KAG to Terraria, I'm not gonna do that, because the game isn't a Terraria-clone at all.
Speaking about the game, there's 3 classes: builder, archer and knight. You need all of them to win, builders can place defenses and easily destroy the enemy's walls, archers are a good support unit and knights are the tanks of the situation.
There's siege machines, trinkets like bombs or explosive arrows and much more. This game has a stunning depth, maps are always different and if you're a fan of this gameplay you can enjoy it for hundreds of hours.
I reccomand it happily.

King Arthur's Gold has something that few other MOBAs of this type can replicate.

Sheer, utter chaos.

The Terraria similarity only goes skin-deep, as the only things this game has that makes it similar to the popular platformer are the ability to build and the art style. The latter keeps things simple, with enough expression in each of the three classes to make them distinguishable, yet not overly complex, whereas the former is a stroke of genius.

At the beginning of each game, you and your team will have a short space of time to construct whatever you deem effective in staving off the enemy. Teamwork is essential, as a good castle is perhaps more important than good combat skill. Once the match starts, sheer hell is unleashed.

The ground between two bases becomes a warzone. Makeshift wooden structures are built only to be destroyed a second later. Knights use their shields as makeshift gliders to parachute into the midst of the war, archers hang from trees and walls, sniping anything wearing a shirt that isn't their colour, and builders hang back in the base, pixelated faces cackling as they toss a boulder into the enemy or pefect a foolproof deathtrap.

The games are fast and furious, but what elevates it even further from other MOBAs is the drop-in / drop-out feature. Is the other builder overruling your suggestions for a space tower and is nicking all your gold? No big D. Just leave that game and enter another. Are you having trouble fighting, or even surviving more than thirty seconds post-spawn? Fine! I'm sure your skills would be valued in a new game. The seemingly obvious issue of everyone leaving as soon as the tide turns is obliterated by the gameplay, however; fortune never rests with one team for long. As such, this game is often my go-to for fast fun before I need to go somewhere and don't have time to be locked into a thirty-minute game, the threat of my status being diminished should I leave constantly hovering behind the 'quit' button.

In conclusion, this game is fun, moddable and a great long or short term solution to the MOBA hankering. In my opinion, it's worth every penny.

A fun, 2D, tactical game, sure to keep you entertained for hours.

Three classes:
- Warrior
- Archer
- Builder

The game, you're not held back with just one class; pick one of the classes that suits your fancy, have some fun with it, and eventually change out.

There are multiple elements in this game that make it worthwhile:
- Gliding with shields (how cool is that?)
- Multiple boats to choose from
- Archers with bombs (deadly)
- Warriors with bombs
- Strategic feel to it
- Build a base using real-time physics (albeit the physics aren't the greatest)
- Customizable appearance (skins, textures, GUI, menus, etc.)
- More than I care to list

The combat is simple; block, click, and repeat. That doesn't mean it get's boring, it gets even better with more playthroughs. (Shields are extremely useful with bombs, duh.)

Workers are able to earn money, and can use some of the stuff to build a proficient base. Trap doors are useful, just put some spikes under, and watch your enemies fall into the pit.

Since this game IS mainly focused on MULTIPLAYER, it doesn't have much of a story; save the princess. It serves more as a tutorial for a newbie (real useful). The story-mode features multiple levels, and if you don't like the princess, you can just simply murder her in cold blood, and forget about the main objective.

By the screenshots, you weren't expecting something graphically intensive like Battlefield Hardline. Good, we don't need 'expensive graphics', this game's simple textures are simply pleasing to the eye. And if you don't like the current theme, or you simply don't like the color of the workers, you can change it.

You can either search up texture packs, or you can do the following:
- Right click the game
- 'Properties' - 'Local Files' - 'Browse Local Files' - 'Base'
- Find an image editor (Gimp, Photoshop, Pixlr, anything that suits your liking)
- Copy the destination
- Just open the images in the editor :)

The music is nice, as are the sounds to it. They're basic, but you shouldn't be focusing your main attention on the music anyhow (unless you want some epic battle, boss-scene music).

Everything is nice, everything adds up, the game is good at being itself; a war game. It does everything right, and everything is customizable.

King Arthur's Gold is a game that looks like a simple side scroller on the surface, but when you get to it for the first time you're throw in to a uncaring world where men, women, and other creatures fight each other in a brutal war over bits of land, and whatever else seems worth taking. Where if you don't keep your wits about you, you may fall in battle at anytime and there're always enemies along the way willing to fight you with such reckless hate that you may wonder why you bought Kag to start with. But take heart there're also those who would defend you, those who would fight for your honour, those that you will forge a friendship with that is so powerful it could only ever be made in the heat of battle.

In short King Arthur's Gold is an adventure waiting to happen, with many friendships to be made along the way. All you have to do is climb board.
