About This Game

MASTER THE ART OF WAR
In the darkest age of Japan, endless war leaves a country divided. It is the middle of the 16th Century in Feudal Japan. The country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. Ten legendary warlords strive for supremacy as conspiracies and conflicts wither the empire. Only one will rise above all to win the heart of a nation as the new shogun...The others will die by his sword.
Take on the role of one Daimyo, the clan leader, and use military engagements, economics and diplomacy to achieve the ultimate goal: re-unite Japan under his supreme command and become the new Shogun – the undisputed ruler of a pacified nation.

Game Features

Total War: SHOGUN 2 features enhanced full 3D battles via land and sea, which made a name for the series, as well as the tactical campaign map that many refer to as the heart and soul of Total War. I really like the game, to me its the best total war. The singleplayer is AMAZING and the multiplayer is......Meh. I say this because whenever i try to play mulipayer , it always has mostly Fall of the Samuri people who mow down my troops with their fancy guns. No matter WHAT i try, they always beat the crap out of me.but besides that, tht game is literly the best total war title out there. 10/10 single player 7.5/10 muliplayer.

I startet with the original Shogun: Total War. It blew me away. I was always a fan of the samurai stuff.
I have to add that I got this game fully patched and will all DLC, so I can´t say anything about launch state.

It´s awesome!
Gameplay 10/10
You can play diplomacy (trade, payments, hell you can even marry your daughters or give your children as hostages if you´re desperate enough) You choose how every province specializes (economy or military). You will plan your steps or you´ll regret them. The stories you make yourself in your campains are so awesome. (I once gave my youngest son hostage in the hope to extend a peace treaty with an mighty ally who was close to declaring war to me...he killed my son the next season. So I killed him in a furious revenge :)
And them real time battles. It makes a huge difference on how you plan your moves. You can easily loose while having twice as many men if you are stupid...and you can win if you are smart while having half as many.

Grafics 9/10
If you run it on ultra it looks amazing. It is glorious watching your army march towards a fortress. Ground textures are not that great, tho.

Music 10/10
Simply fitting, calming and awesome. That song after a victorious RTS battle always makes me dance.

I have to go down by one point for how bad it utilizes CPU. The loading times are still pretty long

So overall 9/10. Get it. Play it. Period.

This is my favorite game of all time. It is the best Total war in my opion. The game is balanced and does a good job of teaching the history of Japan. I love the Fall of the Samurai DLC the best, it is probaly my favorite Total war game because I love how it is so modern. There is also Americans in the Fall of the Samurai dlc which makes it even better.

Phenomenal installation of the Total War series. Shogun 2 exceeded all expectations and will forever be a "golden age" for the series. Utilizing the unique history of Japan and the time period while incorporating necessary RTS components is pulled off flawlessly. This is a game I spend a lot of time with for good reason. The historical knowledge gained from playing is always fun. Plays how you would expect a Total War game to play. If you're a fan of turn based strategy games or RTS battle games, This might be for you. ***warning can be found to induce addiction***

Gameplay 9.5/10. Exceeded expectations. Very easy to get lost in "Just one more turn" Many in depth aspects that make your ability to either get extremely involved with every decision or let the AI take over some for you.
Visual effects 8.5/10. A wall of flaming arrows is a thing of beauty.
Graphics 8/10. Any RTS/TBS game on this scale will struggle to make each individual unit/building visually pleasing let alone a thing of beauty. Shogun 2 has in depth units and great castle design. Above average.
Controls 9/10. As always I am a big fan of Total War in battle and campaign map controls. Very genre appropriate.
Story 8.5/10. Total war games will always take a hit in this category with reason. You influence every aspect of the game with every choice from turn one. You either follow or re-write history. Sega and Creative assembly does everything they can to give you a historical perspective/background. The rating is given due to that.
Replayability 10/10. This is a game you can play however you'd like. Dump hours into quick battles, hours into grand campaigns. Play as one faction three times, three factions once. If you enjoy multiplayer this Total War shows us how great of a multiplayer experience one can get from a TBS/RTS game.

9/10. Beautiful.

Very good game! I've enjoyed it very much and it was generally easy to learn. The massive battles will keep you entertained over and over again. Had issues with launching it but after i varified the integrity of the game it fixed the issue. 10/10 would worry i broke my game again.

One of the best games I ever played. The strategic feature is great. You really need to think ahead several rounds. In fact, the real time battle is also brilliant. Very similar to those RTS games. You can operate on many different units and play smart. Just like StarCraft, if you have high APM, you can beat the crap out of your opponent even when you are outnumbered. Anyway, I do recommend it, especially to those who loves RTS and Strategic games. However, the price might be a little high (relatively).

I don't even know where to start with this.......
All i can say is, i didn't know what to expect from this game.
So let me start with all the good stuff:D
-So we have some kinda smarter AI, even at times when they aren't smart its amusing to see them flail and fall on it's face.
-The campaigns are pretty damn cool, this has to be one of the first TW games i've actually enjoyed playing camp.
-THE GRAPHICS, HOLY HELL. Now my computers pretty terrible, so i'm surprised i can even get it to high graphics.
-The voice acting, well what do i say other than, SHAMEFRU DISPRAY!
-So glad to see AI soldiers actually attempting to fire over hills and such. Although i do miss the moments where your soldiers fire into the dirt.
-Pretty cool multiplayer system, althought matchmaking 0_o. Pls, i don't want to be put against lvl 1 shogunates
-Naval battles are pretty unique, especially fall of the samurai. Love the first person.
-ALSO WHALES, THEY HAVE WHALES 0_0 OMERGOHD WHALES!

Bad stuff :(
-To be honest, the cutscenes could be better. But i enjoyed laughing at the rigid clothing of the emperor as he waved his arm around and the constant shocked look of some of the characters.

Overall its a pretty damn amazing game, didn't think it could beat Napoleon (until i found the guns then i started blasting samurai all over Japan)

Oh did i mention that there's actual WHALES. It's good to see some fish in the ocean, oh wait sorry, i mean mammals in the water.

10/10 would whale again

As much as I try this game can not get past the splashscreen. I left it loading for 40 minutes and hadn't budged an inch. I then tried changing the directx version and now all it does is crash. It's a good game when I used to be able to play it, but now it's unplayable.

A quick edit. Turns out it wasn't the games fault, it was McAfee Web Advisor.

What can I say if you like Total War games this is probably the best (IMO). So Buy.

If you don’t know anything about Total War games then ask yourself this.

Do you want to fight real feeling battles just like a general commanding his\her troops on the battlefield. Do you want to conquer, do you want to conquer Japan using both strategy tactics in a real time battle, and on a turn based strategy map. If its a yes to the above then buy the game.

P.S.
If you get this game and win it, there is always multiplayer. Fight against real players and unite Japan one battle at a time, now that is a challenge.

P.P.S
For new players
Are you having a hard time winning no problem.
Why not check out a few online videos (lets plays) to pick up a few tips.

==Shogun 2== Review
For players looking to dive into a vast map of a surprisingly accurate representation of Japan, waging war with innocent coastal tribes, all the while attempting to usurp the Shogunate for ultimate power. Looking for a TL;DR?

TL;DR Shogun 2 is the best representation of the Total War style game since the original release of Rome 1. The Expansion DLC's help to add additional features on top of an already winning formula.

---The Good--
-Map Navigation and Army Stacking has yet to be overhauled like it was with Rome 2. The classic form of 20 unit cards created from a city can be moved about the map without the need for a General.

-As bad as the AI can get in total war games, Shogun 2 manages to maintain a certain level of not headlong rushing into your spears and archer lines. However this is often the case when playing on lower difficulties. We are not talking about high capacitive thinking AI opponents but at least they dont charge into a meat grinder as consistently as previous entries.

-Shogun 2 released on the cusp of CA attempting to nickle and dime players out of playable factions and unit packs. That being said the core game does not falter under the weight (or lack there of) of these numerous fluff DLC packs. Rest safely in the knowledge that the vanilla game is just as grand as the fluffed out version.

-Battle UI is clean and unintrusive (I am looking at you Rome 2). Abilities and unit flags are easy to read and are distinguishable at a glance.

-Graphics Presentation; what can I say besides how amazing this game looks years after its initial launch. It is unfortunate that one of the best visual moments is locked behind a dlc purchase. This moment being a close zoom up to your samurai cutting limbs off his adversary among a field of flowers with blood spraying forth, in stark contrast to the beauty of the landscape. Cough up 1.59 for the Bloodpack, it's worth it.

-If you are a Mod person I shouldn't have to tell you Shogun 2 fully supports mods. Go forth and mod to your hearts content.

--The Bad--
-AI charging into meat grinders. When it happens boy does it happen in spectacular fashion. Balls of Japanese soldiers ordered to their demise by crashing like a wave upon fixed spear or matchlock units behind baracades. When it happens make sure the blood is turned on.

-Most of the issues stem from the AI functionality, auto resolve with Sea Battles is entirely one sided in favor of the AI even when the player holds the advantage. Be aware of attempting piracy through vicarious means.

-Realm Divide. Diplomacy in Shogun 2 works well enough that the player can create long established trade routes and alliances with AI controlled factions throughout the majority of a playthrough. However; there is a functional game design choice that follows history a little too closely resulting in unfun gameplay past a certain point. If a player is unaware of what a "Realm Divide" is, it is entirely possible to lose everything within a few turns of the event triggering. Doubly so if players deside to invest in early game AI diplomacy and treaties. It is a balancing issue and design choice that requires save scumming to prevent the worst outcome (especially if going into the late game blind) creating needless frustration. For those unaware; Realm Divide is an event that happens when your clan is influential enough that the current Shogunate desides you are a threat to his rule. A cool idea if implemented properly. The incarnation of Realm Divide we got was the entire country turning on the player on a single turn. The AI forceably burns all of your bridges and can immediately attack any of your forign armies within any province. Previous allies always turn on you, there is no way to even buy their loyalty. In terms of a history vs gameplay decsicion I would have liked to see a threshold for diplomatic allies to stay as an ally if their loyalty were high enough. Alas this is not the case and the player always loses potentially useful allies.

--The Meh--
-DLC; it's is a sore spot for many people. Understandably so as the number of skin packs, unit packs, Blood effect packs, faction packs, ect. (I could go on and on) is just staggering. Nearly all of the DLC for Shogun 2 is fluff and not necessary, outside the actual expansions, Rise and Fall of the Samurai, the dlc can be ignored entirely.

The Best Total War?

This game is one of my favourite total war titles and theres many reasons why. Not only does it have a backdrop that suits the gameplay elements extremely well but it really puts you in some challenging situations for players of any degree.

- Competetive units (Everything has a match)
- Fully strategic and continuously challenging campaign
- Various DLC to keep it fresh
- A beautiful Japan to explore and conquer

This game really bought back the spirit of what makes a total war game great. The fact that you feel as if you are part of the battle and every decision is crucial to your success.

Overall i would extremely recommend you getting this game.

I've played Napoleon, Medieval, Rome, Empire, and now Shogun 2
Shogun is 100% better, and i will explain why.

The gameplay, is very challenging, such as the campgains, even the multiplayer.
In this game, you will learn much more, than the previous games.

In this total war title, you need to be an agressive player, and to learn faster, troops qualities, and troops skills. Shogun is 100% the hardest total war i've ever played. I'm still trying to understand how to play it, because it's to hard for me, wich is a good thing.
Btw, the graphics, the soundtracks, the atmosphere... etc, are an important thing in this game, and you will understand why, i dont think i can explain more, this total war is a piece of art, try it, you will love it, and love it, and love it!

a big tip for multiplayer: if you dont have the fall of the samurai expasion, it will be very hard against other players

Incredible Game.

This game is difficult, its rewarding, and its ♥♥♥♥ing fun. When you are taking the heads of your rivals. Fighting off armies on all sides and storming your way up (or down) Japan to Kyoto is awesome. I took Kyoto with so many more men then I needed that the game lagged. Using some small boast to distract the black ship and then using the emperors flagship to sneak up and board it, resulting in capturing the black ship itself.

This whole game is super fun. With lots of replay-ability I haven't even delved into yet. Worth the money especially on sale, and worth the time. Have fun and make sure to take the emperor's head.

I have played Shogun 2 on and off for the last 5 years and it is still just as entertaining as it first was. As the game that introduced me to the series I can say that here they got the balance just right especially for newcomers. This along with the first Rome and Empire are my favourite Total War titles.

Game good, Crash bad.
You can't commit to finishing a campaign because at any moment you will get repeatedly booted back to the steam library leaving you with the immediate choice of should I bother trying to play it again or just try to find something else that is similar. Issues include: freezing during saving (really annoying after you just won an epic battle only to loose it all), insta close after the 4th round of fall of the samurai, you won't see the end of your first winter so unless you can conquor Japan in 3 turns, you won't complete the campaign.

Too unstable to recommend :(...
