About This Game

When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A Dark Presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love.

Presented in the style of a TV series, Alan Wake features the trademark Remedy storytelling and pulse-pounding action sequences. As players dive deeper and deeper into the mystery, they’ll face overwhelming odds, plot twists, and cliffhangers. It’s only by mastering the Fight With Light combat mechanic that they can stay one step ahead of the darkness that spreads across Bright Falls.

With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake’s intense atmosphere, deep and multilayered story, and exceptionally tense combat sequences provide players with an entertaining and original gaming experience.

Very good game, it is about a man who fight shadow creature armed with a flashlight and a pistol/rifle. You need to use a flashlight to remove armor from the shadowcreatures and weapons to finnish them off. The game Was satisfying and quite a big challange. The story is alright, i kept getting stuck during the game and having to go to youtube to find out how to get past certain points. but overall it was a game i would reccomend to people who like good single player games. ++

Alan Wake is by far one of my most favourite games of all time. Having had the game for a few years now, I can still firmly say that the game holds up to it's many competitors even in the present day.

With it's gripping narrative, deeply intriguing mystery and high production quality, Remedy Entertainment; famous for their Max Payne series, successfully founds the Thriller genre of the video game industry.. Setting the bar for similar genres of games, Alan Wake skillfully teeters between the thin line of Action & Adventure and Survival-Horror.

Supported by Petri Alenko's atmospheric score and famed Finnish band: Poets of the Fall, Alan Wake also boasts impressive ambience in and out of cutscenes further sucking you into the world and Bright Falls' various colourful inhabitants!

Although the shooting mechanics can become tedious, and at times; extremely frustrating, you play the game for it's immersive storyline. Delving deep into the tormented mind of Best-selling author Alan Wake, players are promised an entwining journey into the deep-set past of Bright Falls where they will uncover many a mystery!

Another port with terrible control system, sick and tired of running around with a torch (lol) trying to conserve ammo as its very tight on giving u any, the main character himself is crap, has a stupid face, talks a load of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and cant even jump 6 inches onto a ledge, couldnt be bothered to play through this to see if he ever finds his wife but hope he never does, hes the kind of guy who needs a good kicking, no wonder there was a never a 2nd game only some crappy nightmare dlc which probably sold about 5 copies.

Alan Wake tells you the story of a writer named Alan Wake, who's on vacation with his wife, until he's attacked by a dark presence, and taken away your wife.

The story of this game is based on a manuscript which you can find as a collectible, and you can read it to know what's gonna happen next.

In the game you fight your enemies with two sets of weapon. A light, and a gun. This combat mechanic is quirky but fun in it's own way.

While you're controlling Alan, you can hear his narration through out the whole game. Expressing his feeling, and thoughts, which makes the story more interesting.

On overall i give it around 8/10.

This game is certinaly in my top favorites list. It's dark elements come from a long walk in the park, all the way to telling a great horror story about this game's famous writer, Alan Wake.

Warning, heavy spoiler alert!

Review Introduction
First of all, I'm relieved to say that this game will function on a computer that is as slow as my current laptop: intel Celeron CPU 2.16GHz Dual Core with 4GB of Ram and only the intel HD GPU to rely on. Unfortunaly you will suffer lag... lots and lots and lots of lag. It can be challenging at first to play like this, but I strongly recommend you get a much, much, better computer then mind before even playing this.

With that said, I'm actually going to review the Xbox 360 version of this game since I haven't had that much pleasure playing it on the PC. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, however the only enjoyment you will get from it is that you run it on a system that has specs well within it's recommendation level.

To those who would vommit at the graphics, don't forget, this is a 2012 game, and the hardware back then was good enough to ateast run on systems like mind.

The lip syncing movements might seem goofy at first, but I eventually adapted to it as an ok thing.

Aside from that, the enviroments around you are... lets say "Dark". For more then half the duration of the game you will be running underneath the night sky so it makes sense, right? Well, go take a walk in the park at night time, then come back to tell me if thats still the only dark thing you've encountered.

Basically the darkness around you in this game is out to kill you. It will do anything within it's powers to have you stopped. Even if it's means using someone you know to turn agaisn't you. The darkness corrupts peoples minds, turning them into the Taken. All you have at your arsernal to defend yourself with is a flashlight, and a gun. Use the flashight to drive the darkness out from them, making them mortal again. But they have already been infected by the darkness, you can't save them now. Try not to think too much about the fact your killing people, infact you would be doing them a favor by putting them out of their misery. Trust me, be glad you did.

You are playing as author, Alan Wake going on a vacation with your wife, Alice.
Alan wanted to take this vacation as a break, he hasn't written a single story since his last publishing 2 years ago.

However, going by the scenaries of their vacation location, Alice encourages Mr. Wake to write again. But he refuses, stating that he took this vacation just to avoid that. She grew ignorrant of him, egging him on about writing again, not to mention that she insists on him seeing a doctor because he dosen't want to bloody write.

Man, how many kicks to the head does it take for one to simply understand "When I don't want to do something, thats that, don't go thinking I'm a mad man now just because I stopped writing books 2 years ago!"

Moving on, Alan finally loses it with Alice about the writing stories thing, storming outside to take a breather in the dark where she won't follow him. Alice suffers from Nyctophobia, a fear of darkness.

Things turn upside down however when Alan eventually comes to his senses. He discovers the lights had gone out within the Cabin where he and his wife were staying. With Alice screaming, Alan makes a mad dash back to the cabin. But she was gone.

Somehow, Alan had not only just lost his wife, but found himself waking up to a nightmare of events, based on a story he couldn't even remember writing. What happened to Alice? How can Alan forgive himself? Well, that's for you to find out :P

The story became one of my favorites of all time. Can someone seriously tell me if this game has a book to it, because I want to read it, dammit xD

Review Conclusion
Do I recommend this? If your into the horror genre and like action with heavy story based dialouge, go for it! I love this game, it's certainly in my top list :D I still think you would be better off getting it on Sale, the price just seems a bit much for me which is the only negative thing I have to say. Thank you for reading and I hope you all take care!

11/10 Would play this again!

As far as storytelling and production values go (aside from low-res cut scenes) Alan Wake is great. The story is interesting and will keep you guessing and resolves itself admirably. Unfortunately, the game play can't keep up.

Alan Wake isn't your typical third person shooter. You have a very limited amount of supplies to deal with what seem like impossible odds. While it's possible to overcome these odds in this game, it usually comes at the cost of constant trial and error and dealing with some seriously clunky movement and aiming mechanics. The worst offender are platforming sections which have NO place in a game of this kind other than to ♥♥♥♥ off the player with cheap deaths. The jumping mechanic is simply horrendous and you sometimes never end up where you wanted to.

As far as getting all the achievements this one had a few tough ones. The toughest come in the form of "complete x part of the story without restarting a checkpoint." This being the PC release we get all the DLC and there are two of these (one for each piece of DLC) there and one in the main story. Aside from that there is a ridiculous number of collectibles for the single player campaign. Fortunately, most of these can be picked up using chapter select but some achievements require collecting all items in that set in a full play through (which isn't that bad considering you'll likely play through the whole game twice for the difficulty achievements).

Overall I recommend this game to people who love a good mystery or good storytelling in games in general. Just be forewarned about the controls and the combat. They can be quite a pain.

I'm a bit middling on this one. It got a few pacing issues and runs a bit long. The story takes itself too seriously and I didn't really like the main character but overall it is worth 1 playthrough.

I am revisiting this game in 2016 after leaving it incomplete years ago, and it still holds up pretty well.

The graphics are a bit dated but they still work, the face motion can look a tad awkward at times if you really want to nitpick it, but everything else, the athmosphere specially, looks pretty nice still.

Everything that has been said about this game, the story, the voice acting, the pacing, is still true, if you approach this game open to an experience, you'll be hooked, and although the game itself is not very long by today's standards, for a horror game, it's not bad at all, Twilight Zone fans should find it specially appealing, Alan Wake is a great nod to the show and it serves a similar kind of horror.

You should play this game like reading a good book, at night, when everything else is quiet, just a chapter or two at a time.

8/10 Easily.
