What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“An Other Golf Game is already playable, but there's still a lot more I want to add and improve before considering it complete.

Early Access allows me to continue expanding the game, refining existing mechanics, fixing bugs, and incorporating feedback from players along the way.

I'm passionate about developing this game and intend to continue supporting and improving it well beyond its full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The goal is to move out of Early Access once the remaining major features have been implemented, tested, and polished.

I don't want to rush the full release just to meet a particular date. I'd rather take the time needed to make sure the game is in a good state before considering it complete.

I'll continue sharing development progress and updates and answer any questions via Discord and Steam.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The two largest planned features that have yet to be implemented are golf tournament and the caddy job.

I also plan to continue expanding and improving NPC behavior, adding more jobs and vehicles, and refining existing gameplay systems.

Additional work will focus on balancing the game, improving performance, fixing bugs, and generally making the entire experience more complete.

After full release, I intend to continue supporting the game and exploring additional features beyond the original scope of development.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“An Other Golf Game is fully playable in its current Early Access state, with most of the core golf, life simulation, and job systems already implemented.

You can play complete rounds of golf, practice at the driving range and practice green, play miniature golf, work various jobs to earn money, purchase golf equipment and food, drive vehicles, and explore the open world.

The game also includes survival mechanics, a day/night cycle, and permadeath among many other in depth features.

A substantial amount of content and many improvements have been added since the original Early Access release.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Pricing may change as development continues or when the game reaches full release, but I don't have a specific increase to announce at this time.

Any future pricing adjustments will reflect the continued development and expansion of the game. I wouldn't expect it to increase by very much if anything.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'm always happy to receive feedback, suggestions, and especially bug reports.

Players are welcome to share their experiences through the Steam Community discussions or join the game's Discord, where I actively monitor feedback and reported issues.

Much of the gameplay and overall direction of the game is already defined, but I'm always willing to consider ideas that fit the original vision.

Community feedback has been valuable throughout Early Access and will continue to help shape future improvements.”

About This Game

An Other Golf Game is an odd open-world life and job simulator stuffed into a golf game. You'll need to earn enough money to afford to play golf, figure out how to literally do everything, and somehow manage to stay alive in the meantime.

Take odd jobs, buy the golf equipment you need, and practice until you can actually hit the ball where you want it to go.

There are no shortcuts to becoming a better golfer, and the game isn't particularly interested in making things easy for you.

Golf, the Hard Way

This isn't your typical golf game.

Playing golf is a very manual process. Take a club out of your bag, place a tee in the ground, put your ball on top, throw some grass into the air to get an idea of which way the wind is blowing, carefully line up your shot, and go through the swing process yourself. Then go find your ball.

There are no fancy yardage displays telling you exactly which club to use, or putting guides showing you how the green breaks. You'll have to learn those things yourself.

  • Buy golf clubs, balls, tees, and other equipment as you earn money.

  • Learn a simple but in-depth swing system and how different shot types affect your ball.

  • Figure out how far your clubs actually hit through practice and experience.

  • Account for wind, distance, terrain, and your own questionable abilities.

  • Take a cart around the course, find your ball, and play it where it lies. Or don't. You can do whatever you want.

  • Practice on the driving range and practice green so you can take on a full round at The Oaks Bend golf course.

  • There's also a miniature golf course when you feel like playing a different kind of golf.

Hit a great shot? Wonderful. Into the grass? Have fun looking for it.

Just like real golf.

Work First, Golf Later

Nobody is handing you an entire full set of clubs.

You'll need money for equipment, food, fuel, green fees, and whatever else life throws at you. Fortunately, there's work to be found.

Take on odd jobs around the golf course and elsewhere in the world. Set up golf carts for the day, pick up balls on the driving range, and refill the ball machine with clean balls. Help out the golf course bar by retrieving supplies, empty trash cans around the course, refill water coolers, or find and recover lost golf carts. How to complete these tasks will be up to you to figure out.

Get paid and decide what to do with your earnings. Maybe you'll save up for another golf club. Maybe you need to buy groceries or put gas in your vehicle first.

The golf course isn't going anywhere.

Getting Around

Beyond the golf course is a hand-crafted world roughly 4 km by 4 km, with various interconnected roads to explore.

You'll need to figure out how to get around. Drive different vehicles, find your way between the golf course, trailer park, gas station, and other locations, or just take a drive and see where the roads lead.

Try Not to Die

Life has a way of getting in the way of a perfectly good round of golf.

The world has a full day/night cycle, and you'll need to manage your basic needs, including food, water, and yes, you'll even need to sleep. Ignore them long enough, and you'll have bigger problems than being bad at golf.

Accidents happen. Medical attention costs a lot of money. And death is permanent.

When you die, your run is over.

So drive carefully, take care of yourself, and think twice before doing something particularly stupid.

Figure It Out

An Other Golf Game doesn't hold your hand.

There are no lengthy in-game tutorials explaining every mechanic, no automatic teleporting to your next shot, and no guarantee you'll immediately know what you're supposed to do.

A big part of the experience is learning how the world works.

Experiment, explore, make mistakes, and gradually get better at both golf and staying alive. The game rewards patience, curiosity, and a willingness to figure things out for yourself.

It's meant to be challenging, occasionally ridiculous, and genuinely satisfying when things finally start to click.

A Different Kind of Golf Game

An Other Golf Game is an independent passion project developed by me (waxycaps), drawing on a handful of years spent working on actual golf courses, from washing carts and picking up range balls to caddying and maintaining the grounds.

The goal isn't to make golf easier or more convenient. It's to capture some of the strange, frustrating, funny, and rewarding parts of the real experience, wrapped inside a very unconventional life simulator.

The game is actively developed in Early Access, with new features, improvements, and fixes being added over time.

If you're looking for a traditional golf simulator with instant gratification, this probably isn't it.

But if you've ever wanted to work a lousy job just to afford another golf club, drive a questionable vehicle down a back road, and spend an afternoon searching for a ball you absolutely should have found by now, you might be in the right place.
