What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Allied Nations is built around interacting systems: people, settlements, resources and a changing world. I want player feedback to help shape how those systems feel to use, which parts are enjoyable and where the game becomes difficult to understand. The game is being rebuilt on a new engine, and that work needs honest feedback on playable versions rather than a claim that every planned feature is already complete.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“There is no announced date for leaving Early Access. The earlier estimate no longer reflects the scale of the rebuild. The focus is on making the core game playable, understandable and reliable, then expanding its systems. Development updates will describe completed work and the current state of available builds.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The goal is a deeper settlement and nation simulation, with more capable inhabitants, richer ecology, broader construction and progression, and a more complete shared-world experience. I also intend to improve performance, presentation and accessibility and add Steam integration. These are development plans; features and priorities may change as the game evolves and players provide feedback.

Planned Features
  • A full multi-government political system for every race.
  • Technology that scales from the base stone age to the space age.
  • The ability to set laws and rules for you player controlled alliance.
  • Full in-depth genetics which will allow both abilities and negative traits to pass on to a players units as they breed.
  • The ability to build warships on the sea with modular cannons and upgrade-able mounts.
  • A choice to avoid a pure technological path and go down the path of the Arcane arts.
  • The ability to change a plants atmosphere to make it suitable for you race to survive in late space age gameplay.
”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Steam download is the original BYOND-based version of Allied Nations. The new-engine version, known during development as Reborn, is not yet included in that download. Reborn is being developed on a custom Godot-based engine, with work on world generation, settlement buildings and storage, layered terrain, vegetation, wildlife and networking. Development announcements describe that work separately from the version currently available to players.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The current plan is for the price to remain the same when the game leaves Early Access.

No price, discount, DLC, upgrade entitlement or paid-upgrade change is made by this packet.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Steam discussions are the place to share feedback, report problems and talk about the direction of the game. Reports are most useful when they include the build version, what you were trying to do and what happened instead. I am particularly interested in how settlement work, unit control and the world's systems feel during real play. Development announcements will explain progress and open questions so feedback can be grounded in the version being discussed.”

About This Game

Allied Nations is being rebuilt

Development is continuing on a new version of Allied Nations, known during development as Reborn. It moves the game from BYOND to a custom Godot-based engine and rebuilds the world, settlement simulation and presentation around that foundation.

The Steam download currently contains the original BYOND version. The Reborn development work described here is not yet available in that download.

Recent development includes a rotatable starting-world globe, physical settlement buildings and storage, travel into neighboring regions, seasonal vegetation and layered water with visible aquatic life. These are development-build systems, and substantial work remains on performance, presentation, long-term simulation and multiplayer.

The development announcements explain this progress and its limitations. There is no announced release date for the new-engine update or for leaving Early Access.

A place to begin. A world to change.

Allied Nations is a fantasy colony and nation-building simulation about people trying to make a life in a changing world. Begin with a small company, direct individual workers and guards, and turn the resources around you into shelter, equipment and supplies.

The game is being rebuilt in a new version known as Reborn, using a custom Godot-based engine. The sections below describe that development version. Reborn remains unfinished; the aim is a world that develops its own history alongside the player's settlement.

Choose your foothold

Rotate a generated globe, choose a starting region and shape its geography through controls for ocean coverage, climate, rainfall and terrain. Put together a founding company, then begin working with the land and resources around it.

Follow the work from tree to settlement

Select your people and give them work. Fell a tree and leave physical logs behind. Designate construction, organize stockpiles and move supplies through storage and production. Food, water, tools and equipment are part of the same settlement problem: someone has to obtain them, carry them and make them useful.

NPC settlements are taking physical shape too, with houses, storage halls and upper watch posts. Their routines and longer-term ability to sustain themselves are still being developed.

Look beyond the ground beneath your feet

Explore layered terrain, work above and below the surface, and travel into neighboring regions. Seasonal trees, flowering vegetation, wildlife and visible aquatic life give different places their character. Weather, lighting and water presentation are being developed alongside the simulation behind them.

Recent work also advances trees and wildlife outside the currently viewed region. A fully developed living planet, complete ecosystems and large autonomous societies remain longer-term goals.

Built for a shared world

Multiplayer is part of Allied Nations' design. Reborn's development build uses Valve GameNetworkingSockets for direct-address and LAN connections. Complete multiplayer release support and Steam features such as lobbies, invitations and achievements are still in development plans; they are not included merely by using Valve's networking library.

A new engine foundation

Reborn runs on OpenACAI's custom fork of the open-source Godot Engine, with native C++ work and a modern .NET/C# runtime. The engine is being adapted to the game's simulation, world data and rendering needs, with credit to Godot and its contributors.

A project with roots

Allied Nations is designed and developed by Alex Cooper, known online as Godsring, and published by OpenACAI Inc. Its roots run through the Dungeon Master prototype on BYOND and the original Allied Nations. The idea remains personal: a role-playing world that evolves with its inhabitants and the people playing in it.

Still in development

The rebuild is ongoing. Performance, presentation, deeper settlement routines, broader ecology and Steam integration still need work. Save compatibility can change as systems develop. Spaceflight, a complete stone-to-space progression, full planetary simulation and finished large-scale multiplayer are ambitions, not descriptions of the current build.

Follow the Steam development announcements for concrete progress and information about playable builds.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This is a top down 2D war online RTS/RPG with dismemberment, graphic screams and gore. There is an ability to make alcohol in the game with some stat effects to a players units/villagers. Units at their base can appear unclothed but it is not detailed or graphics in nature as genitals and breasts are not shown whatsoever.
