Trawel

Trawel is a historically-inaccurate open world text adventure RPG. Created as a re-imagining of old-school calculator and early command line games, it eschews their limitations but attempts to capture their spirit, and bring it in line with modern quality of life standards with a GUI.

Miksi Early Access?

Trawel is fully playable, but also in great flux, and lacking in both polish and assets. As a text adventure, this does not significantly detract from the experience- but is still nowhere near the expectations of a completed game.
Early access allows us to refine the mechanics of the game with community feedback while developing those assets.

Trawel will be in early access until the games assets are completed, including art, music, and sound.

Millä tavoin lopullinen versio tulee eroamaan Early Access -versiosta?

The full version of Trawel will have complete art, with no placeholder assets. Additionally, major overhauls and expansions of game systems will be released periodically.

Mikä on Early Access -version tila tällä hetkellä?

The current game is mechanically solid, but graphical assets are heavily repeated for different types of gear and opponents.
Some game systems are rough, but the combat and core gameplay loop of exploration are refined.

Trawel will be priced the same in and out of early access.

Community feedback on the Steam forums, and any other place we could find, has heavily shaped Trawel's past updates to systems that were lacking, and we hope to continue to refine the game with player input.

Trawel is a historically-inaccurate open world text adventure RPG. Created as a re-imagining of old-school calculator and early command line games, it eschews their limitations but attempts to capture their spirit, and bring it in line with modern quality of life standards with a graphical GUI.

Oldschool games often were limited by memory, processing power, displays, and inputs. Trawel is heavily data-driven, with partly-procedural, partly-handcrafted abstract environments. Visuals are used as aides, and do not determine the gameplay.

Of particular note, the Graphical version here offers a mouse/controller/keyboard interface to make playing the game easier for those used to modern applications.

The game will also boot in text-only mode at the same time, which is compatible with most screen readers.

Trawel gameplay is heavily focused on exploring the world, finding better gear, and deciding to use it or sell it. It also features an opportunistic choice-oriented combat system.
