What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Starblazer team wants to deliver the best possible competitive platform for VR. However, it is currently only being developed by a single coder and developer. That said, it needs the help of the Steam community to help guide and refine the product, making the best use of development time and focusing on what players want to see the most. With your patience and contribution, we know that a brilliant game can be built to fulfill your dreams of being a virtual reality space commander.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We would like to see Starblazer be a fully functioning and feature rich game by the end of 2019. The core mechanics are built in, so we are confident that this timeframe will is suitable finalizing and creating a suitable multiple universe.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“It is our desire that the final product would be fully ready for competitive online multiplayer. This includes rich user profiles - with rankings, statistics, more customization. Also, we want to offer a unique selection of maps to keep gameplay interesting. Black holes, volcanoes, underwater… we have some really great ideas that we are dying to get out there!

Additionally, we want to give offline players a more diverse and challenging experience, continuing to build and refine the artificial intelligence bot. Players should feel that their offline experience gives them everything they need to refine and test their skills.

There are many ideas that the Starblazer team has discussed before, that we would want to bounce off of the community for input on, including co-op challenges, varying multiplayer modes, and other customization opportunities. Tell us what you want, and we will look to see what we can make happen!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current game has several of the essential rooms built out. Fleet Builder allows for customization of fleets, in position, ship type, and color selection. Demo Room features all of the ships that the user has available and teaches them how to use them in battle.

War Room is the main arena that still needs helps from the community to tweak. In order to phase our feedback, the initial release on Early Access is only going to feature an offline battle mode against the AI bot. The goal is to get feedback on the core mechanics. The AI bot is not as refined as we would like to see it grow to be, but it’s available for players to start testing out their custom fleet configurations in a mock battle. We also decided just to launch with a single map, to put the focus on the game play, not the map design at first.

Though multiplayer is being coded and worked on by the developer, we are withholding that to a future release, to start off with getting the initial feedback from the community. We recently made the strategic decision to switch our multiplayer system to one that offers better connections, stable matchmaking, and enhanced features that we think the community will appreciate.

Fleet Builder and Demo Room, though fully functional, are also open to including many more features, particularly around customization.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Largely, we would like to maintain the same pricing structure during early development, as a new and very small independent game studio (yes, just one coder!). We do believe though that there is opportunity to offer the game at a much-reduced price or even a free-to-play structure if the development team was given the financial freedom to make that decision. For now though, now that payment of the target price is much appreciated in early stages of supporting this adventure!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be monitoring the Steam Community discussions, as well as our Reddit forums.
You can always find us at:

Getting a fully functioning strategy game, much less one that is competitive multiplayer, leans heavily on it being properly balanced. The community is vital in helping us maintain that balance. Feedback on the proper ship types, abilities, and strengths are crucial in building a fun multiplayer game. We will take the input from the community and tweak continually to offer an experience that offers fun, epic space battles.”

V0.801 - Icarus Re-envisioned

After watching the hundreds of players come through our booth at PAX, we realized that the original map shipped with the game could benefit from a redesigning.

So with pleasure... we bring you ICARUS.

In this map, the hyper lanes on either side of the map speed up your ships 3x times. You also have the option to dodge through the asteroid field in the center of the map.

Setting waypoints for your ships to navigate the asteroid field can be as strategic as it is fun. However, just be careful you don't fly too close to the sun or the ship will catch on fire!

No matter how you play the map, we think that you will enjoy this new design and really test your skills as a space commander.

About This Game

Starblazer is a real-time strategy VR game, where players can engage in strategic aerial battles. It captures the strategic advantage of virtual reality better than any competitive game before, taking advantage of real-time virtual space to manipulate and engage your fleets.

In Fleet Builder, a player can design their fleet, building in custom configurations and set-ups for the most strategic starting tactics. They are also able to customize the colors of their fleet, tweaking the ship paint jobs to reflect their own style and tastes.

In War Room, the players engage in real-time strategic battles. They are given the option to play against the challenging in-game AI opponent, or participate in matchmaking battles against other players online. War Room is the main arena where players’ skills are tested to the max all across the world. Think quickly and strategize where to send and control your fleet. In depth 3-dimensional control allows you to select ships in VR and map out any location in space, planning the perfect attack. Use your ships wisely to defend and protect your most prized ship - the Flagship. Clever players will use the combination of ships in smaller squads to complement each other. Using the Spectre, players can use invisibility to hide parts of their fleet. Using the Bruiser, players can barrel through enemy lines, pounding back defenses. Using the Medic, players can restore all ally shields. The combinations are endless and only the best commanders can craft a winning strategy.

Finally, the Demo Room is always open to the player, allowing them to test out new ideas and strategies in the safety of a demonstrable space. Learn about each ship type, play around and discover new ways to beat your opponent. In the Training Room, you can practice in mock battles.

Space is a large frontier waiting for you to launch into the void and conquer. Build your fleet and join the war for the stars!
