What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access will allow players to give feedback and influence the development as we move towards a full release. We have built a solid foundation of Winkeltje that is fun to play as is but we realise that it needs more love and attention to make it a shop keeping game that is unique and truly stands out. With this in mind we have our development pipeline set up to release updates and fixes on a regular basis while we work on more content and features.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We aim to have Winkeltje in Early Access for about a year or longer for as long as the resources to develop allow us.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have more content and features. We intend to add more objectives, furniture, items, decorations, walls, floors, events, and probably more.

We already support community translations but we intend to translate if there is a significant enough demand to the most popular languages in the full release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Winkeltje is already fully playable with dozens of furniture, items, structural assets, customers, events, seasons and three supported languages (Dutch, French, and Russian). Players part of the closed-alpha have reported enjoying the game for over 10 hours.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As the game grows in content, features, and entertainment value we may increase the price of the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have an active Discord community where people provide feedback and suggestions. We have three branches in which we develop the game (default, testing, unstable) where players can try upcoming features or help with community translations.”

Patch 2776; Languages, Difficulty and Fixes

Hey Shopkeepers!

It has been 2 days (and a few hours) since we released Winkeltje for you to play. Since then, over two thousand of you have joined us in building shops, satisfying customers, paying off debts and crafting items! Thank you so much.

You’ve been incredibly active since the release, and we’ve been taking your feedback to make the game better! Because of this, the game is being updated to v. 2776 and should arrive on your Steam soon! See the patch notes below:

  • New Languages supported! Spanish, Polish, German, Brazilian-Portuguese, Czech and Turkish!
  • Difficulty slider! Reduce (or completely remove) the effects of debt by changing the difficulty in the settings menu!
  • Night Deliveries! Deliveries can now be done at night, arriving instantly to allow you to restock your shop and craft!

  • The quality of an improved craft should now also be translated
  • Crafting in the crafting stations should now also be translated
  • Added a difficulty slider to the settings

Special thanks to everyone who helped out translating!
  • Added Spanish Support.
  • Added Polish Support
  • Added German Support
  • Added Brazilian-Portuguese Support
  • Added Czech Support
  • Added Turkish Support

  • Added support for less common resolutions (such as 3440 x 1440)

Balance Changes
  • Day length is now slightly longer (from 55s to 70s)
  • Higher quality items now sell for 20% extra per quality increase (up from 10%)
  • Customer arrival time should vary more.
  • Poor quality items now sell for 80% of the base price (up from 50%)
  • Recession event weighting lowered, now has a 4% chance of happening (down from 11.2%)

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed multiple issues in the tutorial if the player would save and load during it.
  • Shadow rendering had a strange shutter effect in the opening animation.
  • Seasons would not correctly turn on and off when they should. Note that this change will not take effect until the end of your current in-game season.
  • Removed season lead-up and build-off, as this was rather confusing
  • Incorrect text would appear when paying off your debt fully
  • Events would be updated twice upon starting
  • Opening the settings window could update the appeal level using the shop level.
  • Item deliveries are now correctly saved & loaded
  • Adorned Cupboard was not in the list of unlockables. This is now unlocked when reaching shop level 8
  • Fixed issue where in some cases you could have furniture outside by removing the floor
  • Planter label would not update correctly when moving to the withered or final state.
  • Blocking the entrance would not always correctly mark displays as inaccessible
  • When you went back to the main menu from the game, it would not correctly load the save files in the "Load Game" menu.
  • "Continue" is now correctly unusable when first booting up the game and no save-file is available.
  • Fixed an issue where 'Crafting Options' was not changed to a different language after selecting it.
  • Footstep sounds now play while running.

Plans for the near future, and thank you!

Hey Shopkeepers,

With our release yesterday, we are absolutely amazed at the reception you guys have given us. Thank you so much for all the conversation, feedback and bug reports! We plan to improve and expand Winkeltje for as long as we can, and your input is vital in these efforts.

Here at Sassybot, we feel that transparency is important. As our players, you deserve to know what’s going on, what we’re doing with your feedback and how we will use it to make the game better. That is why, right now, we’d like to take a moment to tell you about the things we currently have in development for Winkeltje!

There are a few things we have in the pipeline, so we’ll go through them one by one!

Scenarios are something that we have had planned for a while, and they’re finally coming. Scenarios are best described as ‘challenges’. They will consist of many of the things you have been asking for, such as different difficulty levels, different map sizes, and more focused shop types. For example, you might find a scenario where things are more expensive than usual, increasing difficulty. Or you might come across one where you start with a forge, and you take on the role of a blacksmith.

Major Rebalance
We have heard you, some prices don’t make sense. Farming isn’t worth it, and much more. We are currently hard at work to rebalance everything, from prices, to rewards for crafting and farming, and even the order in which you unlock new items (and furniture) for selling! Overall, we hope this will improve your experience playing Winkeltje.

UI Rework
The UI has been changed many times so far in an effort to improve clarity to you, as well as the ease with which you can do things. We are currently (re)designing a lot of the UI element, to improve this further. A big part of this will also be the backend, so it will be easier for us to expand and change it in the future!

Wall Mounted Furniture
Wall mounted furniture is on its way. Think of shelves you can put items on, or paintings you can put up to push your appeal just a bit higher again! This will create a lot of new options for you in how you design your shops, and we’re looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Bug Fixing
You guys have been amazing in reporting a lot of bugs that slipped through our testing. A large part of our time for the near future will be focussed on fixing these as soon as we can. Some things are easy, some are hard, but we’ll get them fixed thanks to you! Making sure the game is playable is our number one priority, so please look forward to these fixes.

Finally, we’d like to thank you again for purchasing, playing, and talking about Winkeltje. It’s thanks to all of you that we can keep working on the game.

I do have to mention one last thing. These are things we have in development, but with everything happening (bug reports coming in, etc.) it’s currently not possible to give a release date for these features. Some will come sooner than others though, so keep an eye on the discord (and steam) to stay informed!

“Nov 2018 - The current Alpha build of Winkeltje features around two hours of gameplay and really impresses with its intuitive UI and fast paced shop management gameplay.”
Alpha Beta Gamer

About This Game

Winkeltje is a game about building, decorating and running a small shop in the days of old. You will deal with the day-to-day business as the shop owner while you unlock new things that will help you run a lucrative enterprise.

As the shopkeeper of your very own shop you are in charge of buying, selling, and making a profit. Items can be bought from passing traders or delivered at a fee. Items can be placed on displays in order to sell them to customers. When you are ready, you can open your shop to start the day and let customers in. Customers will buy what you have on display if it matches what they are looking for. If you don't provide what a customer wants in time, they will be sad and leave. A day of shopkeeping can be stressful but rewarding!

Bring out your interior designer by freely placing and rotating all furniture or use snapping if inaccuracy drives you nuts. Furniture comes in a variety of categories. There are displays which let you display items to sell in your shop. Decorations will make your shop more appealing and increase the amount of customers that come to your shop. You can increase the item stock capacity by placing storage type furniture. With crafting type furniture you can produce items to sell in your shop.

When you have amassed enough money you can decide to expand your shop. The shop building is tile based where you decide what floor to place and what walls surround each tile. Walls can also be windows, archways, or doors. Expanding will also make your shop more appealing to customers as each piece makes your shop more appealing. With each wall type has a matching entrance to really tie the place together.

Crafting lets you create items that you can sell in your shop. Crafting requires resources but lets you gain experience so that you can create higher quality items than what you can get from traders. Currently you can craft tools and weapons at the forge and clothing at the tailoring station. As the game develops, more crafting options will become available.

In Winkeltje you can buy seeds from traders, plant seeds in planters, water plants, and harvest crops. Crops are items that you can sell in your shop. If crops aren't cared for they can wither and die.

As time goes by you will encounter events and seasons. Events and seasons can affect the supply and demand for certain items. It can be profitable to stock up on certain items so that you can sell them for more profit when the time is right.
