What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Geoplanetical aims to become a benchmark for deep geopolitical simulation games.

Its interconnected political, economic, social, diplomatic and military systems make community feedback especially valuable, as many aspects can only be properly evaluated through long and varied campaigns.

Releasing in Early Access was not my original plan or usual approach. However, Geoplanetical has always been developed in close collaboration with its community, and 100% of respondents to a recent community poll asked for an Early Access release.

The game’s core is already playable, major bugs are rare, and the save system and debugging pipeline are reliable. Early Access therefore feels like the right opportunity to involve players more directly while continuing to improve the depth, balance, accessibility and stability of the simulation.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently expect Geoplanetical to remain in Early Access for approximately 18 to 24 months.

This is only an estimate and may change depending on community feedback and the needs of development. My priority is to build a stable, coherent and genuinely deep geopolitical simulation rather than rush toward an arbitrary deadline.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to deepen the existing systems and expand the interactions between politics, economics, society, diplomacy, warfare and the evolution of the wider world.

The exact direction will evolve according to testing, technical priorities and community feedback. The ambition is for Geoplanetical to become one of the genre’s reference points for players looking for a deep and large-scale geopolitical simulation.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core experience of Geoplanetical is already playable. Players can begin a campaign as a playable terrestrial authority, explore the 3D globe and manage their country through interconnected political, economic, budgetary, social, diplomatic and military systems.

The rest of the world continues to evolve through simulation and decisions made by other actors. Saving and loading are functional, major bugs are rare, and the project has a reliable debugging and testing pipeline.

However, some systems still need further balancing, depth and accessibility. Players should expect bugs, incomplete areas and potentially significant changes throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to gradually increase the price as substantial content and features are added and Geoplanetical moves closer to its full release.

Any planned price change will be communicated to the community in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement is at the heart of Geoplanetical’s development.

Players already contribute through discussions, suggestions, bug reports and polls.

The decision to consider Early Access itself came directly from the community, with 100% of respondents to the poll supporting it.

I intend to continue listening closely to feedback, sharing development progress and explaining major changes. Community reports will help identify priorities, improve balancing and usability, and reveal issues that only emerge during long campaigns.

This collaboration will help shape the development process while preserving the project’s central vision: making Geoplanetical a deep, ambitious and distinctive reference within the geopolitical simulation genre.”

About This Game

  • Hey! Have you ever watched the news and thought you could do better in their place? Geoplanetical gives you an entire country to prove it in a fully simulated world!

  • Choose one of the world’s 177 countries in 2026. Rescue an economy in crisis, turn a small nation into a regional power, impose your political model, prepare for war or simply try not to make everything explode.

  • I created Geoplanetical around a simple idea: in a geopolitical game, numbers should never be there just to decorate the interface.

EVERYTHING IS TRULY SIMULATED

  • A power plant generates electricity and consumes fuel. A strike removes actual working hours. An overwhelmed hospital leaves patients waiting. A sanction cuts companies off from customers or goods. A war kills soldiers and destroys equipment that will not magically return the following month.

  • All these systems are connected. An energy shortage can drive up prices, weaken businesses, destroy jobs, reduce your revenue and turn the population against you.

  • The consequences are not chosen in advance. They emerge from the real state of the country and your decisions, because everything is alive and the butterfly effect is real!

RUN THE COUNTRY YOUR WAY

  • Set taxes, allocate spending, fund public services, expand the military and choose the research that will shape the country’s future.

  • Healthcare, education, administration, police, courts and prisons have their own staff, capacity and problems. Giving hospitals more money is not enough when doctors, beds or medicine are missing.

  • The population is divided into 17 social groups with their own incomes, opinions and priorities. Pass laws, form a coalition, win elections or reshape institutions to consolidate your power.

Should you raise taxes to save public services? Shut down coal despite the risk of shortages? Raise the retirement age? Suppress a protest? Change the electoral system when the reform could also cost you your majority?

I am not here to tell you which policy is right. You can shrink the state, expand it, liberalize, regulate, disarm or militarize. The game simulates what may happen next.

BUILD YOUR POWER

  • The economy connects workers, companies, wages, energy, transport and global trade. 108 goods flow through 28 economic sectors!

  • Without workers, energy or raw materials, an industry eventually slows down. With strong infrastructure, a skilled population and the right investments, a poor country can become an economic power.

  • Develop 120 technologies across 10 fields, prepare the energy transition, modernize your armed forces or launch a space program capable of establishing a presence on the Moon.

THE WORLD CONTINUES WITHOUT YOU

  • All 177 countries are simulated in parallel. They trade, reform, arm themselves, sign alliances and react to your actions.

  • Negotiate agreements, impose sanctions, vote at the United Nations, develop your intelligence services or launch covert operations.

  • If diplomacy fails, deploy your forces and supply the front. A stronger army does not guarantee a quick war. You still have to endure losses, occupy territory and secure an acceptable peace.

  • You can even develop a secret nuclear program. The hardest part may not be building the bomb, but preventing the rest of the world from discovering what you are preparing.

CREATE YOUR OWN NATION

Above all, Geoplanetical is a sandbox. Rename your country, choose a historical flag or create your own in the flag workshop.

More than 100 institutional choices let you redesign the constitution. Electoral system, the role of Parliament, powers of the head of state, term lengths, vetoes, constitutional review, territorial organization, succession or emergency powers: you can build a familiar regime or attempt something much stranger.

The game does not stop you from creating a contradictory system. It lets you discover whether it can actually survive.

NO END DATE

A Geoplanetical campaign has no fixed final year. You can continue for decades and observe the distant consequences of everything you have built.

In the very long term, the limits come from the world itself. Generations age, populations grow or decline, and deposits of oil, gas, coal and minerals eventually run out. Forests and fish populations can recover, but they can also collapse if you exploit them too quickly.

There is no hidden timer waiting to end your campaign. If your country survives, its story continues.

A GAME THAT WILL KEEP EVOLVING

  • I am developing Geoplanetical as a long-term project. I will continue fixing, balancing and expanding the game after release.

  • I will also keep listening to the community. Your feedback and ideas will help me keep working on the game and make it the best it can be.

  • The real objective is not simply to remain in power. It is to look at your country several decades later and ask yourself whether you truly did better.

I hope you enjoy rebuilding your country or trying all kinds of absurd scenarios. Have fun!

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Yes. Geoplanetical is a solo project, just me. I use generative AI in a few places. It helps me translate the game and this Steam page into other languages, though I check every translation myself. It also helps me research and format the game's real world starting data, which comes from public sources like the World Bank, the IMF and Natural Earth, and I verify all of that data myself too. The character portraits, around 60,000 of them, are generated with AI. The promotional images and text on this store page were made with AI as well. That's it. Nothing else in the game uses generative AI, and none of it runs while you play. If you want to know where the rest of the game's content comes from, like the real world datasets, the hand made assets and the Creative Commons icons, it's all documented in the About section inside the game.
