Wrench is a mechanic simulator where players prepare and maintain race cars. The parts in Wrench are the most detailed of any game in the genre. Extreme attention has been paid to even the smallest components, including fasteners which are accurate to the thread pitch and install torque.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are choosing early access to involve the community in developing Wrench. Early access will also help us better understand our audience and adjust Wrench's content and game mechanics to fit the players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are a two person team building an intricate game in an underdeveloped genre- there are no easy off the shelf answers for how to solve game design or game system problems when you make the players interact with and keep track of thousands of very small parts. We will keep the game in early access until we are done.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are iterating on game systems, interactions, and our game loop design. The scope has grown over time. Our goal is to build an in depth representation of car mechanics while giving the players high level problems to solve.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The latest iterations are temporarily more sandbox and free form while we work on the game loop. Most parts of the cars are finished and we just added co-op support. We are finishing the new game systems that get the car starting and running before building a first pass at the new game loop.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We are happy with the current price point.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will drive the direction of UX changes, prioritize development order for new functionality, and help drive decisions about what new content we build.”

About This Game

Wrench is a mechanic simulation with a focus on motorsports. We are in a period of transition to new game systems and a new game loop. The most up to date work on the game is in the beta branch which can be accessed by right clicking on the Wrench in your Steam library and navigating to the betas tab. The Beta now supports co-op multiplayer in desktop and VR play modes. This build is a sandbox but we are working towards something much more structured soon. For more details see our recent update post.

Players in Wrench use a variety of tools to disassemble and repair an extremely detailed car assembly. There are three chassis currently offered in the game. A hatchback streetcar, and two licensed kit cars. Our philosophy behind Wrench is to allow players to fail, get lost, and do things incorrectly. We use limited 2d UI and prefer world interactions. There is no automated inventory system, players must keep track of all of their parts, and we provide organizational tools to help players manage their spaces. The garage space has customizable workbenches, flooring, and storage.

Wrench is a traditional desktop keyboard and mouse game with a VR mode for Oculus, Index, WMR, Vive, and Vive Cosmos (experimental).
