Why Early Access?

“Reentry - An Orbital Simulator is a physics-based space flight simulator where you will learn how to operate and fly spacecrafts used in real life. The project is in active development and currently has the spacecrafts from Project Mercury (alpha stage), Project Gemini (alpha stage) and Project Apollo (Preview stage).

In such a complex simulator as this I believe in a development process where the community is involved early, and through Early Access I hope to both get feedback on what's already in the box, as well as suggestions on improvements, details and feature requests.

I'm constantly working on new features, as well as adding more and more details and improvements so you can get a simulator that is as close to the reality as possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Given the complexity of building a realistic space simulator, it is hard to give an accurate estimate. I hope to have all the current spacecrafts (Project Mercury, Project Gemini and Project Apollo with the Lunar Module) as a stable release candidate during 2019. However, this does not mean the game can't be expanded further with other space programs like the Space Shuttle or the Russian programs as an expansion to the simulator, or as a different title.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In the full version of the simulator I wish to have the following improvements and features ready:
- Complete the simulation of the Command Module and the Lunar Module of Project Apollo
- Able to land on the Moon
- More historical missions for all the space programs
- A full campaign where you start with the basic suborbital flight and end up having landed on the Moon
- Custom missions and Steam Workshop support
- Broadcast spacecraft telemetry so you and your friend can fly a mission, where one controls the spacecraft and the other plays mission control. This will allow you to create your own flight plans, and execute them
- EVA's
- Physical simulation of the internal spacecraft systems such as fluids, electricity, life support systems etc.
- More system failures and emergency procedures”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Reentry - An Orbital Simulator has been in development for almost 5 years. The simulator is already in a fully playable state where you can complete missions and enjoy the simulator, and the view of Earth from orbit.

It currently allows you to sit inside a highly interactive virtual cockpit for Project Mercury, Project Gemini and the Command Module of Project Apollo. Almost every switch, fuse, gauge and button can be modified and will trigger a reaction in the simulator.

The simulator also has a high resolution representation of Earth so you can see landmarks and details on Earth from orbit, as well as a realistic view of the stars surrounding you.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will most likely increase when the game is released, and during development. The simulator might further expand with DLCs etc.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'm actively seeking community feedback and suggestions through the in-game menu or social media.

There are many details and systems to simulate in Reentry, in addition to the realistic physics on launching into space, orbiting Earth and landing on the Moon. Community feedback helps me prioritize the tasks and features I wish to implement, as well as fixing serious issues and bugs.

There are many other space enthusiasts who might know some details I don't, as well as have feature requests I haven't even thought about. By involving the community, I can learn about these and add features and functionality based on the feedback.

My goal with Early Access is to work with the Community to create an accurate, realistic and fun space flight simulator.”

Patch 0.308.EA is out - updates to the CM AGC, and general fixes

This is a little patch where a few major issues in the AGC has been fixed. In addition, the Mercury flashlight bug is fixed.

- An issue prevented P40 to work after setting it up with P30 (SPS burn). It's important to press ENTER after changing one of the registers that define the time of ignition, before proceeding with P30.

- A race condition prevented the ignition of the SPS when the countdown to ignition reached zero. An engine ignition flag was set, but for some was overridden due to a race condition, preventing it to start. This is now fixed, and R2 (dV remaining) should now reflect the planned burn, and not indicate 00000.

- The flashlight in the Mercury capsule was too weak, and is now functional again.

Patch 0.307.EA is out - CM translation & achievements fixed, lunar improvements

The latest patch contains a lot of fixes, and some new features. The main bug-fix area is the CM RCS system and its DAP. You should now be able to translate normally again (but remember to power up the jets).

In addition, there are a lot of new systems in development, all surrounding the lunar landing. These changes includes the rendering of the Moon, sizing and transition, as well as the LM radars used to land on the surface.

Thanks for reporting issues and for playing Reentry! My main goal currently is to complete the technical implementation for performing a lunar landing. Once this is complete, it can be refined and the LGC guidance logic can be started.

About This Game

Reentry is a space flight simulator based on real life spacecrafts. You create a new astronaut, gain levels and experience for every move you make by completing missions in space. You will have access to missions similar to what happened in real life, or fictional missions designed to challenge you as an astronaut.

Spacecrafts are highly complicated machines with the primary task of exploring and understanding what's outside the atmosphere of Earth, while keeping the astronauts alive for long periods. This is achieved by hundreds of individual systems and backup systems working together. With the help from the in-game Space Flight Academy, the provided flight manual for each spacecraft, and checklists, you will learn how to fly and operate these machines, and explore space in a high resolution and realistic environment.

Control almost every system like the real astronauts, see the sunset and sunrise while orbiting orbiting Earth with speeds exceeding 25,500 ft/s. Explore the surface of Earth and the Moon with high resolution textures, or simply enjoy the solitude of being in space.

Imagine the final few seconds before launching into space. You are sitting on top of a 111 meter high rocket, looking at the instruments of a spaceship about to leave the oasis we call Earth. The engines are igniting, mechanical systems are clinging below you, while thousands of gallons of fuel is pumping through the systems. The loud roar of the five F1 engines are producing close to 8,000,000 pounds of thrust, violently shaking the cockpit and lifting 3 million kg off the pad. The launch pad tower is slowly moving away from you while the engines are balancing the rocket like a skyscraper on a needle. Sophisticated engineers has created the systems that will safely accelerate you to 25,500 ft/s, into a free fall orbit, with the Moon as the destination.
