What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Brimstone Brawlers is ready to get into the hands of the players and we need a way to fund the project to completion. We have already grown a large community through a closed alpha and are ready to expand the number of players through Early Access.

By giving people access to the game early on, we will be able to shape the project based on community feedback. We are big fans of the agile development process and plan to release updates often and consistently. Community engagement will be vital to the success of this project.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We have realistic goals when it comes to leaving Early Access and releasing the full game. It may take a few years based on our existing goals and goals created by community engagement.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are releasing the game into Early Access in a very early state. Because of this, there will be many features implemented along the way for us to call the game complete. Some of these features include:

Match Making

Match making will be the backbone of Brimstone Brawlers. We plan to add all of the standard match making features including:

- Dedicated Servers
- Anti cheat measures
- Competitive and Casual play
- ELO/Rankings
- Parties/Groups for team matches (with team ELO/Rankings/stats)
- Leaderboards

Player Profiles + Cosmetic Unlocks

Player profiles will have many features including:

- Experience with levels and rewards.
- In depth player stats
- Match stats
- Brawler specific stats
- Replays

Interconnected World

Every map in in the game is geographically located within the large city of Brimstone. Leading up to full release this feature will will allow us to develop exciting new game modes including solo/coop content and large scale modes.
The evolving narrative of the game will driven by environmental story telling and character interactions as the city constantly evolves throughout development. It will allow us to do things like hint at new content (like characters and maps) and develop world events across the game. The first of these events will be explored when the circus hits town and the first content pack is released.

More Solo and Coop Content

We want to add more solo and coop content to the game so it can be enjoyed by everyone. Some of the solo and coop content we have in mind includes:

Narrative Scenarios
Cooperative scenarios where you play through important parts of Brimstone's narrative. These will contain challenging content from pve elements to platforming. Use your knowledge of the Brimstone to find alternative solutions and paths through the city. There will also be timed challenges within these scenarios which grant rewards based off the level of difficulty.

Break the Target challenges
There will be challenges for each Brawler, where players can practice their skills working against the clock. There will be leader boards for these so if you're ever bored waiting for your team to log in, jump into the challenges and show the world how fast you are!

Bamball challenges
  • How many Bamballs you can score in 1 minute?
  • How far can you hit a stunned Bamball?
  • Stuff like that.

Content Packs

Brimstone Brawlers will get content updates throughout its life cycle. There will be a constant stream of content including maps, brawlers, cosmetics and more. We will also be working towards larger content packs which will be released less often which aims to refresh the game. These packs will focus on world events within the city of Brimstone. As mentioned above, the Circus will be the first major content pack, releasing several circus themed brawlers as well as several new maps and causal game modes. These packs may also be used to bookend seasons of competitive play.

Did we mention circus bear?

Constant Improvements

The game so far has been developed by a tiny team. Our big plans also include going back and improving on the core systems already in place.

Our major priorities for improvement include:

  • Netcode updates/optimizations
  • UI Updates (we are well aware our UI is trash)
  • Ability FX updates
  • SFX updates
  • Existing level updates
  • Getting some awesome music made
  • Brawler visual updates

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is still under development, hence the Early Access. Players are able to play local (single machine) multiplayer using up to 4 controllers, as well as limited featured online multiplayer (no match making yet). Currently in online mode you are able to host a public or private server. Private servers can be password protected or set to Steam invite only.

For those happy to support the game now and play Early Access, there are currently many playable brawlers and levels. Each brawler has a unique set of skills and all supporting ability mechanics have been implemented into the game. There are currently a limited number of items which can drop mid map.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be cheaper while in Early Access. As you can see by our future plans, we have many new features coming down the road.

Once the game is complete we may move to an alternate funding option to help create a successful game which lasts far into the future. If this is the case we will work with the community to make sure early supporters of the game receive something amazing for their support.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement and feedback will be vital to the development process of Brimstone Brawlers. The game is already shaping up to be an awesomely fun couch/party game and there is a competitive community playing the game in online alpha tests.

Community feedback will be very important to the success of the project as it moves into an fully featured online game. We mainly engage with our community through our Discord server: and will be active on the Steam community pages.”

About This Game

Brimstone Brawlers is a fun, multiplayer couch 3D arena brawler with peculiar characters set in the Lovecraft inspired fantasy city of Brimstone.

Choose from an initial cast of 12 Brawlers with unique abilities and playstyles, ranging from a soul-chasing Wraith, an unhinged Butcher searching for meat, a deranged Plague Doctor who thinks he is an actual bird, and an innocent looking Traveller that carries a suitcase with a Lovecraft-esque monster inside (wait... is the monster the Traveller?). With more strange and peculiar Brawlers coming in the future!

Set in a fantasy Lovecraftian industrial world, brawls occur in a variety of dangerous hazard-filled 3d arenas. Laugh in delight as you knock a friend off to their doom or scream in fear as you get hit by a runaway train!

Play with up to four friends locally with controllers or play online with up to eight players through peer-to-peer connections. Play with your Steam friends or join our Discord to find new friends. Check out our Roadmap for planned updates to our Online play!

Brawl against friends in a variety of different PvP modes including Free For All Deathmatch, Free For All Stock, Team Deathmatch and Team Stock. For a change of pace players can play the bonus mode Bamball, Brimstone’s take on football, where they can use their abilities to disrupt (or eliminate) their opponents before scoring the winning goal.

Stellar industrial victorian soundtrack by Andy Gillion (solo artist, songwriter and lead guitarist of Mors Principium Est) provides the perfect atmosphere to brawl with friends.
