What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As the game has been developed by a small team, Early Access is vital to get the feedback necessary for the project to achieve its full potential. Play testing is invaluable to a project like this and all feedback will help guide the game play to be as fun as possible.

We have already designed a large roster of Brawlers, many of them waiting in the sidelines waiting for art assets. It would be great to get as many of these characters as possible into the game.

Any funds made during early access will go directly back into the development of the project allowing new brawlers, maps and features to be implemented.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game will be in Early Access until all the base features and online functionality is implemented. This involves a large enough roster of brawlers. We foresee these features to be completed in about Q3 of 2019. Funding from sales will help speed this process up.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will differ from Early Access by having a larger roster of Brawlers, more maps and online features. We would like to implement online match making functionality, achievements and stats. Depending of the success of the early access features such as skins, player progression and leader boards may be added to the project.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is still under development, hence the Early Access. Players are able to play local (single machine) multiplayer using up to 4 controllers, as well as limited featured online multiplayer (no match making yet). Currently in online mode you are able to host a public or private server. Private servers can be password protected or set to Steam invite only.

For those happy to support the game now and play Early Access, there are currently many playable brawlers and levels. Each brawler has a unique set of skills and all supporting ability mechanics have been implemented into the game. There are currently a limited number of items which can drop mid map.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“If early access drums up enough funds to bolster the content and features of the game by a significant amount, the price on release will likely increase.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement and feedback will be vital to the development process of Brimstone Brawlers. The game is already shaping up to be an awesomely fun twinstick couch/party game.

Community feedback will be very important to the success of the project as it moves into an fully featured online game.

To assist feedback, we plan on implementing forums on the website, until then come and join me on discord (link available through website).”

About This Game

Brimstone Brawlers is an action packed beat'em up full of strangely aggressive brawlers set in a fantasy Victorian era world.

Pick from an early line up of peculiar brawlers with different abilities and play styles.

There is a selection of action packed levels, ranging from simple arenas like Tavern and Rooftops to the super dangerous Train Station.

While protecting yourself from the onslaught of other brawlers, remember to watch your step as the levels are full of hazards and dangers, use these to your advantage and outplay your opponents.

Below are some of the mechanics and features you will experience in your average everyday brawls.

  • Projectiles collide in Brimstone, so a good offence is usually the best defence!
  • Abilities interact with each other, ignite arrows, knock projectiles away, even cause stunning explosions.
  • The streets are filled with trash. Pick up powerful items and use them to wreak havoc.
  • Throw things at your friends. Then trash talk them with taunts and emotes!
  • Eat some pie and unleash powerful abilities to turn your enemies into mush!
  • The levels are riddled with screamingly unnecessary explosive dangers. Use them to your advantage!

"Battlements gaze down from the mountain above the once mighty city of Brimstone - now obscured from sight. The era of enlightenment that had once fuelled new innovations and scientific discoveries has now turned to time of onslaught from a new industrial age.

Haze smothers the city, the canals are clogged with putrid filth and the citizens are reeling with fear. For those not struck down by illness or devoured by the grinding teeth of machinery, there is little hope. From within the shadows, a more sinister evil stirs.

Grotesque scenes of supernatural happenings are emerging, leading to rumours from the already trembling people. Glimpses of ghastly figures in the shadows, monsters roaming the streets and dark powers dwelling in the citadel.

Adding fuel to the inferno of misfortune, deep within the bowels of the city there are whispers of a new discovery - a haunting, corrupting, sulfuric substance, known only as plague fire.

With terror around every corner, the civilisation teeters on the brink of chaos. While some search for ways to benefit from the recent turmoil, hunters and healers of ageing ideals have entered the streets seeking to purge the city of evil. With most citizens in hiding, confronting those still walking the streets will often lead to all out brawls."
