What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access is a unique opportunity to attract a strong community of players, whose ideas and suggestions will guide the project in the right direction despite our frantic attempts to guide it somewhere else.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game will be released as soon as we complete the main story and polish the project until its shines blindingly, sparing players from bugs they fancy so much. It’s hard to accurately predict the date, but it can be assumed that this will happen within 16 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Breathedge will support several languages and please the players with a comprehensive storyline, all the necessary game mechanics, lots of objects for building and crafting, as well as many other little details. The full version should become a full-fledged game and a perfect choice to play with your mother watching if you’d like to survive a week or two under house arrest.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At the moment, the first story chapter is implemented to the game. This is already a full-fledged part of the game, almost in the final quality, with all the necessary mechanics to play the game, full localizations into English and Russian languages, cutscenes, settings, optimization and even opening credits.
In the first chapter of the game, there is no personal transport and construction available, because the main character is just at the very beginning of his journey and still does not know much. These opportunities, as well as many other new mechanics, will become available with the next chapters. New chapters will come out as large updates right up to the release. Do not worry, we are not planning any DLCs or paid episodes!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“After release, the price will certainly go up, as we’ll become greedy and arrogant. There’s a chance that we won’t become greedy and arrogant, though the price will still get higher. However, with the release of new chapters in Early Access, the price of the game will gradually increase.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is a cornerstone for developing and improving the game, so we’ll constantly keep in contact with our players on the Steam Forums, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and VK.
We’d like to hear any feedback, opinions, and ideas on the project, so feel free to express yourself by any means available, including pigeon post and telepathy. The bigger our project becomes, the more often we’ll share our progress and ideas with the community as well as conduct different polls and surveys.
At the current stage, each opinion is crucial in affecting the overall game development and we encourage everyone to communicate with us!

The News About The News

Greetings to all astronauts and astronautesses in the letter space of the Breathedge universe. We’d like to anticipate your first question and answer it straight away: no, it didn’t hurt at all. Now we’d like to predict your second question: what on earth was the first question about? And this one, unfortunately, we are not able to answer. What we’re able is to break the outer space silence with one or two amazing anecdotes about what we’ve been doing lately, though.

It may be hard to believe, but what we’ve been doing lately is actually developing the second and the third chapters of Breathedge. Fancy that!
Our scenario writer recently became disenchanted with the idea of teaching his tortoise some kung-fu, when it couldn’t win a fight with the desktop shredder, so he finally finished the chapters. We’re not going to reveal all of them to you, of course, but we’re going to give you some random spoiler about, say, the feathered companion of the Man. No doubt you’ve been wondering about the fate and origins of the Chicken and asking yourself questions like: “Why is the Chicken immortal?” and “Is she, or is she not, immortal for reasons?”

The answer is: yes, she is, and yes, for reasons. The Chicken plays a major role in the world of victorious socialism and scientific progress. Her fate is tightly intertwined with the history of the world and reaches for the origins of the Breathedge funeral agency. It won’t be easy to see the full picture, but you will find one of the pieces of this puzzle in the open spaces of the most terrifying, most mysterious, and most secret part of the liner Unnamed, where you can come across the REAL monsters. This is all very serial!

So we’ve told you about the Chicken, now we can talk about some less significant things. We’d like to give you a sneak peek into the details of the expanding world of the game. In the new chapters, we plan to divide the world into several independent space zones, or biomes, if you will. We tactfully keep silent about the exact number of them for reasons that are vile, but important. Each biome will have its unique laws and mechanics. For example, the first chapter, or the first biome, includes basic flights, resource gathering, and craft; the only hurdle is the Man’s natural needs and a couple of electric shocks, and even that is only if you poke your face into the wires because of being too curious. The new zones will make you face their destructive nature, use new tools and features, and, perhaps, they will even make you think! Although, what is there to think — hit, break, and apply some tape to the helmet.

As we’ve finished our work on the game scenario, we’ve started our work on the English localization of the monologues, as well as the Russian and English voiceovers. We haven’t forgotten about our friends from other countries, and we keep in mind about each of you who is eager to help with localizing the game into other languages, and we’ll certainly localize the game into the most popular ones. However, we can promise this only when Breathedge moves from Early Access to the release. That means that when the fourth and fifth chapters are released, or somewhere near this event, everyone who speaks only Chinese, French, German, Polish, and a number of other languages, will have the opportunity to enjoy the game with fully adapted unfunny jokes without using online translators and grandma's dictionaries.

We’ve successfully tested the construction system, available in the Breathedge Constructor. We’ve listened to your opinions and read your comments, and we are thinking about some big improvements in the logic of construction with the decor. In the meantime, the bugs got out of their lair, but we made them crawl back; although they are still waiting for their moment to come. At the moment, our programmers in the person of one chicken, are working on the optimization of the code and models. They’ve also learned how to save and load the station with all the decor, and at any point of the galaxy. After the optimizations, the station will break down, of course, and will successfully pass the tests again, but let’s leave it for one of the next pieces of useless news.

We are planning to expand the variety of AI in the game. Space will slowly come to life, filled with extremely unreasonable pixels with different tasks. We wanted to introduce some aliens into the game, but we couldn’t find and persuade any to record some mocap animations for our game, that’s why we were forced to introduce robots instead. By the way, the robot named Buratissos is already rolling, raking the air with his hands, and doesn’t like to fall on his back when he is being thrown. The one who flats him on his back will be officially considered as a great hero.

The next things we’re going to tell you about are not entirely related to robots or to AI (even though they have one), but there will be thoughtless and annoying turrets in the game that will relentlessly pepper the Man with charges of unknown physical origin, making it difficult to play and enjoy the smell of freedom in a sweated space suit.

The vehicle is almost working. It refuels, breaks down, shines its headlight and goes at near-light speed. Don’t ask.

In response to all hardships, including the evil robots with turrets, the Man learned to skillfully shoot a blaster. We wanted to teach him how to shoot a bow, but due to the lack of knees in robots, we found this type of weapon completely useless.

And yes, the robots, blasters, turrets, vehicle, saves, and other useless stuff is already available in the Breathedge Constructor today.

The important news for our team is that we have a new full-time hen in our coop. She actively helps in artwork, and many strange new objects in the game will be created with her help. This once again underlines the fact that if you have a beautiful beak, a red comb, as well as confident experience in the gaming industry in any specialty (especially in C ++ and animations for UE4), then the doors of our coop are always open.

And finally, we’d like to remind you that you can expect the second and the third chapters somewhere around April. Or probably in May, although mom may let us go on summer vacation early, and this might postpone the release to unknown dates in 2072... But let's hope for the best! By the way, we have a real coffin. Why would we need a real coffin? Well, we are not eternal, so, who knows when it may suddenly come in handy. Or we may use it for a wild video that we are preparing for wild video fans, but we don’t know for sure.

So it goes. Don’t forget to join our discord channel for quick feedbacks, as well as for sharing your ideas, solving life problems, or just informal communication with emoticons.

Happy New Year!

There it is, look! Yes, there, look, it’s close! Let’s gather around the table!

You probably haven’t noticed yet, but the New Year has already crept up on us from the back and is poking a finger in our ribs. No, no, it’s definitely not osteochondrosis, we are sure. Perhaps the New Year wouldn’t be so tactless if we were lying face down on the beach and eating sand, but sadly, we are lying face down on the floor and eating polished white long grain rice. If you are not too busy contemplating the sandy interiors of your crab hole either, then we would like to heartily notify you about the New Year and congratulate you on it, of course. For this occasion we were planning to make a beautiful New Year postcard: we took out our paintbrush and some old supplies of black gouache, but Ms. Anna (Basyamba) gave us such a great fanart congratulation that we threw our paints into the nearest airlock along with our self-conceit, and we are now sharing her congratulations with you.

Isn't this great? Thank you, Anna! Thanks to everyone who is trying to save the Man and make his life a bit more unbearable. We thank everyone for your participation in the history of Breathedge. We hope that the year 2019 will be at least 2019 for everyone, as for Breathedge, we wish this year to be the release-from-early-access one. You threw money into your monitors, had your faith in us, bombarded us with positive comments, and gave us new ideas. All we got to do now is fulfill all the plans and finish the game in such a way that one could say: “Wow, Russian game dev is finally rising from its knees!” And that everyone would want a sequel, a new history, but we wouldn’t do it because we would be eating sand and contemplating a peaceful life of a crab, while thinking of a new universe. So it goes. Happy New Year!

About This Game

Breathedge is an ironic outer space survival adventure game. Take on the role of a simple guy who just carries his grandpa's ashes to a galactic funeral and finds himself in the middle of a universal conspiracy.

Welcome to Space

A massive space hearse suffers a wreck in the deep space, leaving the area filled with debris, coffins, dead passengers and yourself. Survive in this interstellar dump, uncover a global conspiracy, save the princess and don’t break your fingers while tapping the keyboard as you travel around the world (keeping your display on for full immersion is advised).

More Flotsam and Jetsam!

It took a long time for our ancestors to develop because they had no duct tape. You have it and you know how to use it. With this magical artifact, you can create a vast variety of useless objects and throw them out the airlock! There are also many useful items to be created, but be careful as this may result in completing the game.

Fix and Decorate

When all the people around you just hover around in the vacuum doing nothing but playing dead, various tools and gears will help you become the worst noisy neighbor ever. Create a unique space station, provide it with oxygen and electricity, install all kinds of equipment from solar panels to hamster farm, and turn it into a real bachelor pad by stuffing it with furniture mixed with all kind of junk.

Honk! Honk!

Yes, you heard that right, it’s your own private car horn! Besides that, you can assemble a small rocket, ride the dead or build a large space shuttle. Transportation helps you move faster, evade obstacles and see the death screen after a head-on collision.

Prologue, Epilogue, and Other Nonsense

Surviving in space is fun, and surviving with a story is even more fun because you can just skip it all to annoy the scriptwriters! Breathedge offers you an intriguing plot with lots of dark jokes, cynical dialogues, an immortal chicken, a mad enemy, as well as badly animated cutscenes and other features of an excellent game.
