“Being the only developer and given the scale of the game, it is difficult to predict a date since there are several factors involved such as community feedback. You can check the roadmap to see the current state of development of the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Currently all the main game mechanics are implemented. Therefore the final version will be a more polished release in terms of stability, bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements, as well as an increased quantity and variety of available missions.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Grey Hack is in the Beta phase, which means that all the main mechanics and most of the secondary ones have already been implemented. However you may still encounter some bugs or mechanics that require balancing adjustments.

Please note that due to ongoing development, single-player and multiplayer saves may be reset in future updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will gradually increase as new contents and features are added.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Steam forums and Discord will be the main sites to give feedback, get to know news, discuss aspects of development, etc.

About This Game

Grey Hack is a massively multiplayer hacking simulator game.

You're a hacker with full freedom to act as you wish on a vast network of procedurally generated computers.

File Explorer, Terminal and Text Editor are some of the programs available from the start of the game. As you improve your skills, you'll find new utilities that you can install and use.

A persistent, living world

Explore the world of Grey Hack and build your own reputation in a world shared by all players. When you leave the game, the online world stays active 24/7.

This ongoing game session means that changes you've made to any computer in the world can be seen by players who connect to it, even when you're no longer online. Your progress will be saved, but your actions can have consequences.

Plan your attacks

Every network in the world has a different configuration, size and level of security. A deep, dynamic exploit system also makes each network and computer a different challenge. Study your target, use social engineering, scan the system for security oversights that could let you open a backdoor, and try different exploits. Above all, cover your tracks when you're done.

Create, modify, share

The terminal plays a fundamental role. Based on real UNIX commands, it is an essential tool for carrying out successful attacks.

Terminal commands and exploits have been written using the scripting language available in the game. This means you can modify any existing command or create a new one if you wish. You can also create your own exploits if those already available in the world don't meet your needs.

Sandbox

Grey Hack offers a non-linear experience where you progress at your own pace. Publish websites to share your creations, form guilds and organize attacks against other players, complete missions for money and reputation, or explore the world on your own to find hidden special missions and other secrets.

Single-player mode

Grey Hack is designed to be played in multiplayer, benefiting from the richer environment of a world that is always online, but it also offers a single-player mode for those who prefer it. In single-player mode, you play in a world created on your computer. Unlike online mode, when you leave the game, the world stops and progress resumes only when you return.

Roadmap

Grey Hack is currently in beta, version 0.9. You can check the roadmap on the game's Steam forum. I'm open to suggestions: if there's a feature you'd like to see in the game, feel free to let me know through the Steam forums or Discord.
