About This Game

Every other shard has gone dark

Long ago, one world broke into many mirrored shards. One by one, their lights went out. Aldermere is the last world still lit.

You are a soul who escaped. You wake beside a tetherstone outside Highmarch with the clothes on your back. Beyond the town walls lie forests, forgotten ruins, open roads and a sea that has swallowed pieces of other worlds. What you become here is yours to decide.

The LastShard is an upcoming high-fantasy sandbox MMO about making a life in a world shared with other players. Become a smith, mage, sailor, tamer, trader, thief or lord. Follow the story, make your living, build a home, or set out with friends and see what comes back with you.

Learn by doing

There are no classes and no levels. Skills grow through use. Swing a sword, work an anvil, gather herbs or practice a spell. Shape your character around the things you choose to do, and change course when a different life calls.

Make something people need

Gather ore, timber, hides and reagents. Turn raw materials into weapons, armour, tools, food and goods for other players. Tradeskill quests give a developing crafter a market for the work it takes to improve. Open a shop, hire a vendor and let your wares earn their place in Aldermere's economy.

Take your chances beyond the walls

Outside guarded towns, anyone can attack anyone. Fall on the road and the possessions on your body can be looted. Your soul returns to its tetherstone; your belongings stay where you fell. Choosing what to carry, who to trust and when to turn back matters.

Violence has consequences. Murderers earn a public reputation, draw the attention of guards and face bounties. The freedom to make enemies comes with a world that remembers how you behave.

Build a place of your own

Raise a house in the open world. Set up a workshop or a player-run shop. Settle near friends and help turn scattered homes into a town. A place can become known for its crafters, its trade or the people willing to defend it.

Master magic and the wild

Collect spells in a spellbook and prepare the reagents each cast consumes. A mage's journey begins before the first spell, with what they gather, buy and pack.

Win the trust of animals, train companions and ride mounts. Start with a hound or a horse and work toward more demanding creatures. Beyond the roads, wildlife hunts and grazes as part of the life of the land.

Sail out. Bring something back.

Take a boat beyond the shallows, fish deep water, follow treasure maps and face the creatures of the sea. On land and below the waves, fragments of dead shards have washed into Aldermere. Their ruins carry treasure, monsters and traces of worlds that failed.

Follow the mystery, or follow your own road

An optional storyline asks why the other shards went dark and whether Aldermere will be next. Side quests offer their own stories, rewards and reasons to explore. Tutorials help you find your feet, but no quest line decides the life you must lead.

Make your living quietly. Explore with friends. Build a name that strangers recognise. The last shard is still lit, and there is room in it for a life of your own making.
