What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“ROT-13 is already a deep game to survive in, but a station this interactive grows best with players aboard. Early Access lets us build it with the people playing it: what breaks, what's missing, and what makes a night on the station worth telling.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect about a year in Early Access, longer if players want more of it.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More of the station and the sector around it, more machines and interactions, more kinds of the Rot and station events, Steam achievements, mod support, more languages, and a great deal of polish and balancing.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully playable solo and in co-op for up to 8: the whole station and its outer sections, hundreds of interactions, crafting and building, power, air and atmospherics, chemistry, surgery, farming, raiders, a ship you can repair and fly to derelicts in the sector, dedicated servers, and an in-game field guide. Expect bugs and balance changes.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may rise as the game grows toward its full release. Everyone who buys during Early Access gets every update.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through our Discord and the Steam discussions: playtests, bug reports and suggestions there decide what comes next.”

About This Game

Seventy-two hours after the sample came aboard

Rotor Station 13 was a research and mining ring at the edge of the belt. Something came back in a sample crate. Now most of the crew are the Rot: dead, walking, hungry, drawn to noise and light. You are one of the few left. Nobody is coming, and the station is dying around you.

Everything is a machine

  • Pry doors open, weld them shut, bolt them, hack their wiring or barricade them.

  • Run cable from the APCs, flip breakers, and keep the lights and the air on.

  • Patch hull breaches before a corridor vents to space.

  • Cook in the galley, grow food in hydroponics, and mix medicine at the chem dispenser.

  • Take anything apart for parts, craft at a workbench, and build walls, turrets, traps and a base.

  • Repair the ISV Kestrel and fly her out to derelicts in the sector for supplies.

Survival that wears you down

Hunger, thirst, fatigue, cold, oxygen and panic. Wounds on every part of the body: bleeding, infection, broken bones, surgery and amputation. Skills grow only by doing. Pick your traits at the start; what you become is up to you.

The Rot

Slow, many, and listening. Gunfire carries across the deck. They follow light, bash through doors, crawl out of the vents and drag you down two at a time. Every day there are more of them, and worse.

Better and worse with friends

Up to 8 players in co-op, dropping in and out, over Steam or on your own dedicated server. Treat each other's wounds, talk over proximity voice chat and the radio, and argue about who left the airlock open.

No ending

There is no escape and no rescue. The reactor will melt down on a day nobody knows. Raiders cut in through the hull. Food spoils. The only question is how long you last.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

ROT-13 is a zombie survival game. You fight the undead, and sometimes other survivors and raiders, with melee weapons and guns, with blood, wounds, severed limbs and dead bodies shown throughout. Injuries can be treated with in-game surgery, including amputation. Characters can drink alcohol, smoke, and take painkillers and other medicines, which can lead to overdoses. Players can talk to each other over voice chat in co-op, which is not moderated.
