What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game's core mechanics and content foundation are solid and ready for players to experience, but we want community feedback to help shape the game's direction. Early Access allows us to gather player insights on balancing, feature priorities, and content additions before the full release. Your input will directly influence development decisions.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We estimate roughly 12-18 months, though this depends on the scope of features we add based on community feedback and development pace. We'll provide regular updates on our progress.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand several areas:

Studio Depth: More detailed management mechanics, deeper financial systems, and expanded studio trait interactions
Content Scope: Additional franchise IPs, licensing opportunities, and market dynamics to increase strategic variety
Locations & Hubs: Expanded geographical settings beyond the initial hub, with location-specific mechanics and opportunities
AI Competition: We plan to improve rival studio AI decision-making and competitive interactions
Feature Polish: Enhanced UI clarity, additional quality-of-life features, and refined balancing based on player feedback
Narrative Elements: We're exploring story elements and campaign-style progression

We're committed to expanding the game's scope, but will prioritize features based on community feedback and what proves most engaging during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game features:

Full studio management with financial tracking and reputation systems
106 playable studios spanning film industry history (1896-2026)
27,000+ film franchises and intellectual properties to license
27,000+ source material licenses (books, comics, etc.) to acquire
Core design mechanics where you allocate resources to match market demands
Dynamic market competition with rival studios
Franchise health tracking and profitability systems
Terminal-based interface with period-accurate aesthetic

The game is fully playable from start to finish with complete core systems. See the "About This Game" section for detailed feature information.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We're considering a modest price increase upon full release to reflect additional content and features. Early Access players will maintain their access at the current price point.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We value your input throughout development. We plan to:

Regular Feedback Sessions: Periodic surveys and feedback forms to understand what's working and what needs attention
Discord/Community Hub: Direct communication channel where you can discuss ideas, report issues, and share strategies with other players
Transparent Roadmap: Public visibility into what we're working on and upcoming features
Balance Adjustments: Data-driven balance changes based on how studios and franchises perform in the hands of players
Feature Voting: Opportunities to vote on which features you'd like prioritized

Your experience and suggestions are essential to making this the best game it can be.”

About This Game

THE MARQUEE: LIGHTS. CAMERA. LEGACY.

Build your own movie studio and guide it through the changing history of cinema.

The Marquee: Lights. Camera. Legacy. is a movie studio management simulation where you develop films, hire talent, manage budgets, improve your studio, research new technology and try to build a lasting name in the film industry.

Start small, make careful decisions, and grow your studio one project at a time. Choose what kind of films to make, balance cost against quality, work with actors and directors, and release movies in a changing market where audience tastes, technology and competition continue to evolve.

YOUR STUDIO. YOUR FILMS. YOUR LEGACY.

Every production begins with a decision. What kind of movie do you want to make? Who should direct it? Which actors are worth the cost? How much should you spend? Do you play it safe, or risk everything on a bigger production?

The Marquee is about building a studio over time. A single successful film can keep you alive. A bad release can damage your finances. Long-term success means managing your money, improving your facilities, unlocking new production options and learning what kinds of films your audience responds to.

CURRENT PLAYABLE FEATURES

Film production and release loop
Create films, choose key production details, manage the project and release it to the market.

Genre and theme system
Pick from different genres and themes to shape the identity of each movie. The right combinations can improve a film’s potential, while poor choices can hold it back.

Actor and director selection
Hire talent for your productions and balance skill, cost and availability when building your film.

Budget and quality management
Production choices affect cost, quality outlook and the final result. Bigger spending can help, but it does not guarantee success.

Studio progression
Grow your studio through research, upgrades and new unlocks that expand what you can do over time.

Research system
Unlock new rooms, tools and production options as your studio develops.

Film results and studio history
Released films are tracked so you can see how your studio is performing over time.

Early franchise support
Sequels, follow-ups and long-term IP planning are part of the game’s direction, with more franchise depth being expanded during development.

Rival studio and industry systems
NPC studios, industry activity and historical content are being built into the wider simulation to make the world feel active around the player.

Save system
Save your progress and continue building your studio across multiple sessions.
