What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Chemtris is playable from start to finish, but a roguelite lives or dies by its balance, and that is best tuned with real players. Early Access lets us see how people actually play and fix what is too strong, too weak or just unfair. We also want player feedback to shape which relics, cards and inspections we add next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Chemtris to be in Early Access for about 3 to 6 months, depending on player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to tune the balance across all modes, add more relics, Adventure cards and inspections, and polish the presentation. What we add, and in which order, will follow what players tell us.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All modes are playable: Arcade with three modes and three difficulties, Lab Expedition with five Heat levels, Adventure, Daily Reaction and Lab Training, with online leaderboards, 54 in-game achievements and four languages. Balance is still changing, especially in Adventure and the later Expedition shifts.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We are not planning on changing the price when we leave Early Access. Everyone who buys during Early Access gets every update along the way at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through the Steam discussions, reviews and player feedback. Every update ships with patch notes that explain what changed and why, and we use your feedback to decide what to fix and add next.”

About This Game

Every drop is a bet on a chain reaction.

Rotate and drop colored blocks, two or three at a time. Connect four or more of the same color and they clear. Everything above falls down, which can clear more, and more. That is a chain, and chains are where the big scores are.

Clear a group of five or more and it leaves a core behind. Each color makes a different one:
  • Bomb: blasts the area around it.
  • Laser: clears a whole row.
  • Acid: eats straight down through a column.
  • Vortex: wipes one color off the board.
  • Starburst: clears both diagonals.
  • Joker: a wildcard that connects colors and powers up any fusion.
Set a core off when you need it, or save it. When two cores react together they fuse into something bigger: two bombs make a Mega Nuke, a bomb and a laser make a cross-shaped blast, and a Joker doubles whatever it fuses with. Plan a fusion and one move can clear half the board.

  • Arcade: an endless run that gets faster every level. Pick Normal, Cocktail (some three-block pieces) or Polymer (only three-block pieces), on Normal, Hard or Expert. Every mode and difficulty has its own online leaderboard.
  • Lab Expedition: a roguelite run. Every shift gives you a score quota and a limited number of pieces. Beat it, spend your earnings in the shop on relics that bend the rules, and survive the inspections that turn the board against you. Raise the Heat for five tougher rule sets.
  • Adventure: an endless run where every new level offers three cards. Each card gives you something and takes something away, so every run plays differently.
  • Daily Reaction: one shared seed per day, unlimited attempts, and your best run goes on that day's leaderboard.
  • Lab Training: short lessons that teach groups, cores and fusions.

  • Over a hundred relics to collect and combine, with a collection and a research system that unlocks more over time.
  • Inspections that change the rules of a shift: steel columns, barriers, falling junk blocks, mold and more.
  • Online leaderboards for Arcade, Adventure and every Daily Reaction, with a friends view.
  • 54 in-game achievements and local records.
  • Keyboard and gamepad support, rebindable keys.
  • Reduce flashing and adjustable screen shake.
  • Available in English, Dutch, Spanish and German.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The 2D visual artwork in the game (gems, catalyst cores, brass UI frames, the lab backdrop, icons, word-art and logos), the title-screen music, and the store page artwork (capsule images, key art and section headers) were made with AI assistance during development, then curated and edited by us. Gameplay code, shaders, and the in-game synthesized music and sound effects were made in-house. No generative AI runs while you play, and the game does not generate any content with AI on your device.
