The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Just Another Soldier is made by a solo developer. The core experience, holding off thousands of enemies as a single soldier, and the four-season campaign are already in place. Difficulty, balance and the first hours of play, though, are best tuned with feedback from real players. I also want to decide the priority of bigger features, like co-op, together with the community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 6 months. This may change depending on development progress and player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The following are planned for full release and may change:
- Challenge Mode: runs with special rules
- Co-op Mode: defend the city together with a friend
- New content: enemies, boss patterns, level-up cards, divine powers and Soul Gem upgrades
- Balance, performance and quality-of-life improvements”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The full four-stage campaign (spring, summer, autumn and winter) with its boss fights is playable, along with Endless Mode, which unlocks after the campaign. All core systems are in: level-up cards, divine powers, mountable siege engines, Soul Gem upgrades and the Codex. Expect some rough balance and bugs.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The game costs less during Early Access, and the price is planned to rise at full release as content grows. Any price increase will be announced in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I collect feedback and bug reports on the Steam discussion boards, Discord, X and YouTube. Every update comes with patch notes, and the most requested changes shape the priorities of the next update.”

About This Game

A Nameless Soldier's Trojan War

Hector, prince of Troy, has fallen to Achilles' spear. Hades, lord of the underworld, brought him back, but not in a hero's body. He woke up as just another soldier on the battlefield.

Die, and rise again as another soldier. When the city falls, Kronos turns back time, and you return to the war with a stronger fortress.

Die, Rise as the Next Soldier

  • Take direct control of a single ordinary soldier, such as a spearman, archer or swordsman, and hold the walls.

  • When you die, you instantly rise again as an ally somewhere on the battlefield. Your upgrades are bound to your soul, not your body, so they carry over.

  • Thousands of Greek soldiers and mythic monsters storm the walls at once.

  • Dive into the melee in first person, or pull back to a third-person view of the whole battlefield.

A New Build Every Run

  • Every level-up, pick one of three cards. Cards range from Common to Legend, and you combine 2 active and 4 passive slots into your own build.

  • Borrow the powers of the gods: Poseidon, Ares, Hades, Kronos and more. Kronos even drops crates of "future weapons" from the sky.

Hold the Fortress, Man the Siege Engines

  • In the deployment phase, place soldiers wherever you like, mount siege engines on your emplacements and choose your watchtower types.

  • Climb onto ballistae, catapults, trebuchets and scorpions to aim and fire them yourself.

  • Between waves, grab a hammer and repair the crumbling walls.

Lose, and Grow Stronger

  • Every fallen enemy yields Soul Gems. Spend them to permanently upgrade walls, gates, watchtowers, siege engines, unit ranks and divine powers.

  • Over 100 Soul Gem upgrades change how your fortress looks and how you fight.

Face the Heroes of Greece

  • Spring, summer, autumn and winter. Each season reshapes the terrain and the lines of attack, and a Greek hero leads the final assault.

  • Agamemnon, Odysseus, and a titan-sized Achilles. When the giant foot comes stomping down, there is only one place to strike: the heel.

A Comic Twist on the Myth

  • The Minotaur, Cyclopes, the Hydra and Medusa have all joined the Greek side.

  • Collect every soldier, monster and boss you meet in the Codex.

  • Lead an army of cute low-poly soldiers and rewrite how the Trojan War ends.

About Early Access

The full campaign, from spring to winter, is playable now. I am planning an Endless Mode, a Challenge Mode, a Co-op Mode and new content, and I will keep shaping the game with your feedback.
