It is late at night in Jiu'anli. The apartment building is locked down, the elevator has stopped, and footsteps still echo through the corridors. Restore the machinery and find a way out.

Nine Layers: Escape is a first-person horror game that combines Chinese jiangshi folklore, environmental puzzles, and stealth. Search nine residential floors and a basement for clues and tools while evading the creatures that roam the building.

Observe your surroundings. Restore the way forward.

Clues lie in handwritten notes, equipment labels, and the objects around you. Compare symbols, quantities, and directions. Find, carry, and install parts to bring machinery back to life and open the next route. Your investigation journal keeps the records you discover so you can revisit the evidence.

Keep quiet. Choose your moment.

Footsteps, breathing, and noisy machinery can reveal your position. Watch enemy movements, crouch, hold your breath, or create a distraction. Treat wounds with glutinous rice and use talismans and a peachwood sword to gain time to escape. Different enemies call for different tactics.

Explore alone or work together.

Play solo or form a group of up to four players over a local network (LAN). Split up to search for clues, transport objects, operate machinery, and return to help fallen teammates. Discovered records are shared, while each player can read and examine clues independently.

Uncover what was concealed.

Altered work orders, marked registers, and residents' personal records hint at events that have been covered up. Follow optional clues to learn more about the building's past, then take the final actions that lead to different endings.
