Find the stairs. Reach the light.

You awaken beneath an unnamed castle with a rusty sword, a torch, and an hourglass already running low. Brother Lucan has left you a chance to escape—and arranged plenty of ways for you to fail.

The Game Beneath is a solitaire card puzzle about planning an escape through a dungeon of 25 rooms. Place cards in ascending numerical order across five rows, satisfy each row’s requirements, and build the strength and defenses needed to survive the dangers above.

Every column is a confrontation

Monsters and traps threaten the rooms beneath them. Gather enough swords to defeat every monster, then use shields and armour to withstand its blows. Match dexterity and wits against traps—and beware the skull: some traps leave no room for failure.

Four classes, different choices

Play as a Fighter, Cleric, Wizard, or Thief. Each has different health and a wildcard specialty. Clerics and Wizards can also cast spells, replacing a card’s symbols with a randomly drawn spell. Choose carefully: a useful spell can rescue your plan, but some are duds.

Escape first. Then escape better.

Your score rewards remaining health and treasure from monsters in the first row. Every discard pile you start costs a victory point. A narrow escape is a victory; a rich, unscathed escape is a challenge worth returning for.

• Solve a five-by-five dungeon with numerical and symbol requirements.

• Draw your next card when you’re ready; undo earlier moves until you draw.

• Compare successful escapes through local high scores and Steam leaderboards.

• Play at your own pace. The hourglass belongs to the story—there is no real-time countdown.
