An old-school real-time strategy game set in a modern war. Build a base, raise an army and fight street by street with two sides that play nothing alike. Walls and hills really block sight and bullets, so take the high ground, hold the houses and bring the town down on the enemy.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The core of the game is done and playable. Both sides, both maps and online matches all work. But an RTS doesn't get balanced at a desk. Which unit is too strong and which strategy is too easy only shows up after a lot of real matches. We also want to build the big pieces still to come, like the map editor and mod support, together with the players who are going to use them.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About a year, maybe a bit longer. We'll leave Early Access when the game is ready, not when the calendar says so: once the map editor, mod support and new maps are in, the big bugs are gone and the balance holds up.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“New factions, each with its own way of fighting. A better balance and smoother play, shaped by what players tell us. Plus new maps, and a game that runs better and is easier to mod, with the Steam Workshop.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Both sides are in and fully playable, on two maps: a desert town and the Siberian winter. You can play skirmish matches or go online through Steam with up to four players, save in the middle of a match and watch it back in the replay viewer. The balance is still rough in places and you will run into bugs.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The game costs less during Early Access. The price will go up at full release, and everyone who buys early gets everything that comes after at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We read the Steam forums every day and answer there. Every update comes with patch notes that say what changed and why. If something breaks or feels off, tell us; a replay of the match helps most, because it shows us exactly what happened. Big changes, like a new faction or a balance shift, go up for discussion before they are final.”

About This Game

Dangerline is an old-school RTS. Build a base, gather money, raise an army, wipe the other side off the map. We wanted the feel of those games back, without making the same game again.

Two sides that play nothing alike

One is expensive and strong, and every unit counts. The other is cheap, fragile and comes at you from everywhere, with tunnels, mines and vehicles built from scrap. Same map, two very different games.

The town is more than scenery

Buildings and hills really block sight and bullets, and whoever holds the high ground sees further. You put soldiers in houses, and when a house comes down, the rubble stays. Tanks drive through walls and crush the cars parked in the street. By the end of a match the map doesn't look the way it did at the start.

Early Access

There are two maps for now. More maps, a map editor and mod support are coming. We want to find out what's missing, and what's too much, together with the people who play it.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Modern military violence between soldiers, with optional blood. The game depicts an armed insurgency, including suicide attacks and kamikaze aircraft, and an insurgent faction that grows an unnamed drug crop and uses forced labour.
