Your drop pod sank on Meridian, a world where the sea has risen sixty metres in six years. Swim out, wake a silent station, build your way from a leaking pod to a real submarine, and dive ever deeper toward the vast ring that made the sea rise.

About This Game

The deeper you go, the darker it gets.

Abysses: Meridian is a first-person underwater exploration game: at the controls of a small submarine, and out in the water in a diving suit. Sunlight fades by forty metres. Below that, there is only what your searchlights touch, and what your sonar hears.

Sink. Your drop pod splashes down on Meridian and goes under, leaking. Patch it up, swim out with sixty seconds of air, and find the station that stopped answering three years ago.

Wake the station. Thétis lies forty metres down. Get inside, bring its power back, make it your base, and find out what happened to its twelve crew.

Build your way down. The cargo pods dropped with you sank deeper still. Every pod you recover and every material you salvage becomes an upgrade at the fabricator: thrusters, lights, sonar, drill, air, depth. Your pod gives way to a real submarine, and the dark gets a little further away.

Descend. From sunlit kelp forests to drowned plains, sheer rifts and flooded caves hundreds of metres down, every layer of the ocean is darker, stranger and more hostile than the last. Your hull creaks under the pressure. Depth is the frontier.

See by searchlight. Volumetric light, caustics, drifting particles and glowing life make the water feel thick and real. Switch your lights off and you vanish into the black, but you also go blind.

Listen. A sonar ping reveals everything around you. Deep in the caves, something listens back.

Find the ring. Something enormous lies far below, and since it woke, the sea has never stopped rising. It was not built by anyone you know. And it is calling.

Features

  • Seamless first person: at the controls of your vessel, out in the water in a diving suit, on foot inside Thétis.
  • Every new ability is an upgrade you craft: thrusters, searchlights, sonar, drill, air, depth rating.
  • A living ocean: kelp forests, drowned lands, glowing caves, schools of fish, rays, jellyfish and whales.
  • Searchlights, sonar and noise: light shows you the way, but some things in the caves are listening.
  • A silent station to bring back to life, and the logs of its vanished crew to find.
  • SEVEN, your pod's onboard AI, talks you through it all.
  • Day and night, rain, storms and auroras over the sea.
  • Start over in a new world, generated from a seed you can share.
  • Mouse and keyboard or gamepad.
  • A custom engine built for atmosphere, from integrated graphics up to Ultra.
Abysses: Meridian favours immersion over simulation: easy to pilot, fun to fly, heavy with atmosphere. No hunger meters, no survival chores: just you, the dark, and the pressure.
