What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The core of the game is done and plays from start to finish: 30 tracks, two physics modes, four bikes and a full soundtrack. Gravity Defied Reincarnation is made by a solo developer, and the next big step is 30 new tracks of our own design. We want to build them together with players: which tracks feel fair, which are too hard, how the Modern mode rides. Early Access lets us hear this while the new tracks are still being made.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan about 6 to 9 months. The main work is the 30 new tracks, and the game leaves Early Access when all 60 tracks are done and tested. If it takes longer, we will say so in the update news.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“• 60 tracks instead of 30: 30 new tracks of our own design join the 30 classic ones.
• Steam leaderboards for every track. Every time comes with a replay of the run, and the game checks the replay before the time enters the table, so impossible times are filtered out automatically.
• Steam achievements.
• Steam Cloud saves.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Everything listed here is in the game today:

• 30 classic tracks in three leagues, Easy, Medium and Hard, each with its own time of day: an alpine morning, a sunset and a dusk with the moon and stars.
• Two physics modes. Original: the physics of the classic, rebuilt from scratch. Modern: a smoother ride where holding the brake stops the bike and rolls it backwards.
• Four bikes: 100cc, 175cc, 220cc and 325cc. Finish every track of a league to unlock the next bike.
• A personal best for every track, bike and mode, to a hundredth of a second.
• 31 original songs, a menu theme and one song for every track, and an engine sound for every bike.
• Keyboard with rebindable keys, gamepad, the numpad keysets of the phone original, and touch screen controls (on-screen buttons or four invisible zones with assignable actions).
• 20 interface languages.

Not in the game yet: leaderboards, achievements and cloud saves.

Updates are planned to keep your save and personal bests. The Original physics is fixed, its bests always stay. If the Modern physics is retuned during Early Access, earlier Modern bests stay in the save but are no longer shown, because times on different physics cannot be compared.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may rise when the full version is released, and if it does, we will announce it in advance. Everything added during Early Access, including the full version, comes at no extra cost to everyone who already owns the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Gravity Defied Reincarnation is made by one person, so your feedback goes straight to the developer.

• The Steam discussions are the place for bug reports, ideas and comments on the tracks.
• Every update comes with a news post that says what changed and what comes next.
• Feedback on the difficulty and the feel of the new tracks shapes their order and tuning before they enter the game.
• The translations into 20 languages were made with AI assistance. If you spot a wrong or awkward phrase in your language, report it in the discussions and we will fix it.”

About This Game

Inspired by Gravity Defied, the 2004 trial racing game from keypad phones.

LEAN, BALANCE, FINISH

Ride a trial motorcycle over hills, drops and steep walls. Use the throttle and the brake, lean the rider back to lift the front wheel and forward to keep it down. Touch the ground with your head and the run is over. Restart instantly and try again.

TWO WAYS TO RIDE

  • Original: the physics of the classic, rebuilt from scratch without the original code. 480 test runs on all 30 tracks with all four bikes match a reference model of the original physics bit for bit on every tick. A hard landing can break the bike apart, as it did back then.
  • Modern: its own smoother physics. The bike does not break apart, and holding the brake stops the bike and rolls it backwards.

TRACKS AND BIKES

  • 30 classic tracks in three leagues: Easy, Medium and Hard. All tracks are open from the start.
  • Four bikes: 100cc, 175cc, 220cc and 325cc, each with its own power, speed, grip and handling. Finish every track of a league to unlock the next bike.
  • A personal best for every track, bike and mode, to a hundredth of a second.

LOOK AND SOUND

  • Detailed pixel art that stays sharp from 720p to 1440p.
  • Three times of day by league: an alpine morning, a sunset and a dusk with the moon and stars.
  • 31 original songs: a menu theme and one song for every track.
  • Every bike has its own engine sound with a virtual five-speed gearbox.

CONTROLS

  • Keyboard with rebindable keys, or a gamepad.
  • The numpad keysets 1, 2 and 3 of the phone original, in phone or digit row order.
  • Interface in 20 languages.

Gravity Defied Reincarnation is an independent remake by a solo developer. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Codebrew Software or the authors of the original game.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The game's pixel art, its 31 music tracks, the engine sounds, the interface texts and the translations into 19 languages were made with the help of AI assistants. The assistants wrote programs that draw the art and compose and synthesize the music from code. No image, music or voice generation models were used, and these programs use no third-party images or recordings. The store graphics and the trailer are made from the game's own footage. The game does not generate any content with AI while it runs.
