What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Spellsmith is playable from your first realm stone to the end of its story, and we want players to help shape it from here. Early Access lets us tune its balance, difficulty and economy with real players, polish the look and feel of every realm, and find what we can't see ourselves. Your feedback will decide what we work on first.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Spellsmith to be in Early Access for around 2 to 6 months. This is an estimate rather than a fixed date: it will depend on development progress, testing and player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to grow the realms, with bigger and more varied worlds at the higher levels and more to find in them, and to add more realm quests, Steam achievements, controller support, and more balance and polish from your feedback. These are goals, and their scope may change as we test ideas and learn from player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The whole journey is playable: the prologue, three acts and the ending. In it now: 11 kinds of realm across 7 levels, each forged from a stone you make; dungeons with trap halls, puzzles, riddle doors, mazes and secret rooms; 33 guardians, each with its own moves; over 100 billion spells from 7 shapes, 4 elements, 6 mixes and 17 modifiers; auras and spells that freeze, crust, raise and charge the ground, and hazards you can wade at a price; the tower to rebuild from level 1 to 100, with eight wings, the Master's Fireside and a curio cabinet; online co-op for two through Steam; Easy, Normal, Hard and Hardcore; three save slots. Windows, macOS and Linux. English only, and keyboard and mouse only for now.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep the same base price when Spellsmith leaves Early Access. We may offer discounts during Steam sales or other promotions.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We read every bug report, suggestion and idea in Spellsmith's Steam Discussions. We plan to use that feedback to choose what we fix and build next, and to share our progress through Steam announcements and update notes.”

About This Game

Forge a world. Build the spells to conquer it. Carry its core home.

Spellsmith is a pixel-art action RPG. Your Master is gone and his tower has gone cold. Only his crow is left, and it doesn't remember much. Yet.

Over 100 billion spells

Build every spell yourself at the Sigil: a shape, the elements you carry, and modifiers that chain in order. Fire and Water make Steam. Bolts split, bounce, seek and chain. There's no skill tree: your spellbook is how you grow.

Spells that change the world

Walk in an aura and the ground changes under you. Air freezes water into a path, Water cools lava to a crust, Earth raises stepping stones over a drop. It lasts 12 seconds, so keep moving. No aura? Wade in anyway, at a price.

Forge the worlds you explore

Every realm starts as a stone you forge from what you brought home. Set it in the portal and step through: 11 kinds of realm across 7 levels, and every stone makes a new one. A realm lasts only so many trips, then crumbles into the Void, unless you claim it.

A guardian at every core

Dungeons hide traps, puzzles, riddle doors and secret rooms. At the bottom waits a guardian, one of 33, each with its own moves. Beat it, then choose: take the core home, absorb its power, or claim the realm for good.

Better with a friend

Open the Gate and a friend steps into your tower through Steam. Go into realms together, share the fight, and each carry your own core home. One aura makes solid ground for both of you.

Rebuild the tower

Every core you take home makes the tower stronger, from level 1 to 100. As it climbs, the crow remembers: wings wake, and the wrecked hall is mended, then made grand. Somewhere in those memories is what happened to your Master.
