About This Game

Keep the wick lit. Nick everything else.

1-4 players: online via Steam, on one screen, or solo.

In Lowlight, light is sold by the night, and the vaults are sealed with it. Your crew has one lantern. Break in by its light, crack the vault, carry the loot out, and get to the lift before the flame dies.

Crack the vault

At the Toll Gate, the chest sits caged behind a light-lock. Hang the lantern on the lock's hook and keep its light on the seal: break the light and the count starts over. Hold it long enough and the cage lifts. Hold it at all and the vault's watchers come out of the dark.

Carry the light, carry the loot

Inside the lantern's glow you're safe. Step out of it and the cold takes your health while violet eyes wake in the dark. Whoever holds the lantern can't carry loot, whoever carries loot can't fight, and the big chests take two. Snuffers will happily snatch the lantern off you.

Lift it and run

Lift the chest and the alarm goes up. Get it down to the landing, set the lantern down, call the lift and hold it: the doors pour out the dark, wave after wave, until the cage comes down.

Pay the toll, split the haul

Back up top, the Split pours your haul out against the toll. Pay it and the district's lights come back on; the rest is your crew's cut. Come up short and the Chandler has two words for you: "Short. Pity."

Pass it, throw it, flash it

Tap to pass the lantern to a friend, or hold to throw it across a chasm and hope somebody catches it. Flash it to stun whatever lunges at you, or to parry a blow at the last instant. A fallen thief floats on as a wisp until the light comes back for them.

When it goes wrong, fight

Four puppets, four sword styles. Blows land at full strength only inside the glow; in the dark they do a quarter of the damage. Charge a heavy strike that chips armour, and time a flash for the critical hit.

What waits in the dark

• Snuffers snatch your lantern and make for the dark.
  
• Pouncers pace the edge of your light and leap on whoever steps out.
  
• Motes come in clouds that latch onto the lantern and eat its fuel.
  
• The Brute's stone armour shatters under a flash, and its slam reaches you even in the light.
